Title: Trapezoid, an Intarnets celebrity!
Post by: Andail on Tue 24/02/2009 19:18:24
Our good friend Neil Cicierega is hitting the big time over the web. Not only have his goofy animations - oh sorry I meant animutations - spawned a veritable cult all across the world of geeks, but one episode of his very simplistic puppet show Potter Puppet Pals managed to reach the 17th position of YouTube views. That's 57 million views. Wow!

Every music video this creative wonderchild tosses up seems to win some sort of award, and some are enjoyable even to normal folks like you and me, like the recent Toy Food (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVvhxwtFsnE).

Neil's got 2300 friends on Facebook, 2204 of which are attractive young girls who are in love with him. Chicks simply can't have enough of Neil.

Neil is better know to us as Trapezoid, and he never made any good games, but he sure as heck made some darn good songs!

I can't find Trap' s version, though...  :'(

So I guess he wouldn't think twice about continuing the soundtrack for Monkey Wrench some day :P

Anywho, great news, Trappy!

Funny, I was just thinking about Trap the other day ... wondering why he abandoned us AGSers!!

I found the Lemon Demon CD I bought 400 years ago (it seems) and said, "wow ... Trapezoid ... haven't seen him on AGS in ages!"  Now I know why.

Good for him.

I'm seriously juuust on the cusp of being able to impress people at parties by bringing along my copy of Hip To The Javabean that I bought before it was cool.

Is there anybody who became famous on the internet that doesn't have a blue cup hidden in their closet?

My flatmates don't believe that I am part of a community where both Yahtzee and Trapezoid (who they discovered via "The Ultimate Showdown") both were regular members at some point (the same time as me!)

Then they beat me silly. :(

Look at this place, it's like a bigshot factory that manufactures bigshots... but quietly and in an environmentally friendly manner.

Gee, I had no idea that the guy's Trapezoid... the world really's getting smaller, isn't it? Next we'll discover what Ben Stiller did last summer.

This doesn't work in all situations, trust me. While on my backpackers tour of Scotland, my music choice (around the middle of the week-long trip) of Hip to the Java Bean was the only music to be booed out of the coach's sound system by about half or more of the 24 on the trip. Some of the fellow travelers were intensely vocal about their dislike. I heard "Can you turn this down a bit PLEASE?!", "Can we throw the CD out the window?", and "AW TURN THIS SHITE OFF!" all uttered by different mouths, and a glance around told me that a few others who did not say anything were noticeably uncomfortable for some strange reason. Needless to say I lost all choosing privileges after that :( I can understand different musical tastes, but that was just out-of-sight ridiculous!

Also, I was totally listening to some of Damn Skippy while at work tonight :)

It needs more bagpipe. And haggis.

But why start this thread now, Andail. Does he have a new cd or project that is affiliated with you or adventure games? I don't want to sound like a douche (too late, I know) but Trapezoid left ags years ago and his succes is not associated with ags in any way (apart from the members that bought his cd's).
Is ags famous because Trapezoid once frequented the forums? He was also a frequent member at The International House of Mojo (http://www.mixnmojo.com/), are they famous too? Am I famous because I once shared an elevator with Dennis Hopper?

"I found the source of the ticking! It's a pipe bomb!"

Priceless.  ;D

He's a member on the Something Awful forums, and I spoke to him a while ago asking where he'd got to. He said he didn't bother coming here anymore since he knew he'd never actually manage to make a game.

I've downloaded every single one of his animutations and saved them to my hard drive - that's how much of a fan I am! :)

You too? I also felt bread while standing next to Colin Farrell! And I saw the back of Pele's head! Not at the same time, of course...

I asked "who?" originally because internet fame is a bit like winning a pie-eating contest*, and youtube views are, to me anyway, a dubious form of celebrity and possibly not something to promote to the top of your CV.**

And 57 million views+several hundreds of thousands of moneys would undoubtedly prove a comfier famevelope.***

Not that I begrudge Trapezoid his accolades.

*Unless you invent a cure for cancer, or eradicate Third World hunger, you'll always be the pie-eating dude.

**Frequented largely, as Youtube is, by fickle meme-ites.

***"Famevelope" noun - the snug, reassuring embrace of widespread adoration. Included financial buoyancy optional, though preferred.

****"Liar" noun - Me.

Liked toy fruit and pokemon songs. Genius lies in simplicity: he didn't sing and there was no lyrics to speak of, yet it felt like new Daft Punk-like electronic renaissance at some moments. Like he invented a new genre or something. Lollipop kiddie gamecore electronica? This is how most unexplainably popular hits happen!

meh most of everything else I watched (about 20 videos out of... hundred?), and hated puppet show.
Youtube humor is hit (1%) and miss (99%) thing anyway. Even 1% of 54 million is a load of laughs. And it wasn't that bad anyways. Just lame.

With character, looks and enthusiasm like this, Youtube videos are a waste. He should try something more serious.
