Still, anime and cosplay combined is level of nerdiness TOO high for even my brain to digest.
I thought that this is what 9-year old fat and ugly boys and girls do. And wonder why they have no friends.

Whoa, that's harsh. Not all cosplayers are like that !

Akatosh

Look like you could fill an entire fetish lexikon with pictures of these series.  :P

Well, that's hardly cosplay now is it? That's models paid to dress up like cartoon figures to attract the kind of people InCreator were talking about... And I agree with him.

Is anyone as confused as I am?

This smells worse than the time m0ds thought it would be a fun idea to explore a storm water drain. Which turned out to be a sewer.

Is that the same storm drain that I fell into, or a completely seperate one?

I think this proves that not all cosplayers are fat, ugly, nerds.  Some are Japanese girls.

Although it might seem like it, Vince Twelve does not hate animé and cosplay all that much.

Here posing as Sensei Suwissu Tjiisuh-san with one of the models mentioned and a japanese midget:

QuoteThe plot differed substantially in that Naruto was the son of the demon fox instead of being the container...

So the present Naruto is the container? I understand. This seems very exciting on many levels.

Ok, youre just putting down something you've never even heard of. You have NO IDEEA what naruto is, yet it's only for nerds. Not all anime fans cosplay, and not all anime fans are nerds. I for one don't cosplay, and I only watch anime because the movies that the US brings out are just plain boring. Oh, and this might be a good time to tell ya this, the so popular Matrix Trilogy was a huge copy after an anime called X/1999. The series first appeared in 1992 and it has a LOT of Matrix elements. I remember the date because me and some friends where curios who copied after who, and it turns out Matrix came out in 1999 and X in 1992.
As for Naruto, it has a great storyline, with evolving characters, and it does have a lot of fight scenes.
Here's the opening to Narutimate Accel 2, yes youre right all talk and no fight. =))

Khris

People didn't actually say "naruto is for nerds", they mostly said "cosplaying is for nerds".

The matrix trilogy might be popular with the masses, but I don't think many people here would disagree if I said that I liked the first one and didn't care for the other two.
Having said that, what about all the other US movies which are neither bad nor anime-rip offs?
I'm sure there's some fancy Latin name for the logical fallacy in your argument because it's so common.

Don't start an argument because not everybody likes the series you're a fanboy of. You're bound to lose.

Layabout

I could only watch the matrix once. Never a repeat viewing. I tried once, but my brain started to rumble. I've heard of the Explosive brain syndrome that comes from watching really bad science fiction with really bad acting. I proply turned it off.

OK. No anime as it is today would exist without early Disney. Crucial plot elements of Shakespeare's Hamlet were "copied" from the Gesta Danorum of Saxo Grammaticus (probably via a now lost play dubbed the Ur-Hamlet) and from Thomas Kyd's The Spanish Tragedy. And so on. But does it really matter?

Even if we put that issue aside, your specific argument about X/1999 and The Matrix is kind of a post hoc reasoning. The fact of the matter is that both of these works draw heavily on literary, mythical and philosophical sources quite a bit older than the nineties. This happens now and then: Someone finds similarites between two recent works of fiction and believes one to be based on the other, when in fact they both more or less independently draw from common source or trope older than you think. Gandalf's wasn't the original Pointy Hat, you know.

I still think that watching Mexican and other Latin-American soap operas is still less boring than watching Japanese ones. At least there's some hot evil ladies there who swear to kill good hot lady character in every second dialogue or so. Here's what I saw, when I happened to see a segment of much-loved Naruto:

* Character 1 talks
* Character 2 talks
* Character 1 talks
* Long male character with long white hair and serious looks talks with eyes closed
* Stupid little boy character starts yelling (hell knows why)
* Long male says something again with eyes closed
* Stupid sound effect, the eyes of boy turn into balls (surprise?)
* Girl character hits boy
* Girl character yells at him

Repeat, repeat. The script was something like "we have to go" "we cannot go" "why can't we go" "don't be disrespectful". This went on for like 20 minutes or so, after that I quit.

This is purely, insanely idiotic. And, it's a SOAP OPERA.

Mykayel, try to grow some sense of criticism and watch Naruto again. You're 19-year old male, as your profile says?
Now, watching cartoons of animated boy all day speaks for itself.

But point was more oriented at cosplay: A short google for cosplay sites could really kill man's ability to reproduce... or get aroused ever again.

The only anime cartoon I've ever watched and actually liked was movie-length something called Princess Mononoke.

MYKAYEL

I'm not quite sure what scene youre refering to, but did you really translate it corectly ? or was it the english version? because in the english version they had to cut like 60% of the series, since Naruto has a bad habbit of swearing at everything. Example :
Woman : Who's the shorty?
Naruto : WHO ARE YOU CALLING SHORTY YOU OVER-BREASTED SHIT FACED GRANDMA??

Stuff like that. They also have to cut out stuff like:

Itachi : Sasuke, youre still weak. You mess in my buisness again..and I'll reap your heart out...little brother.

So, OF COURSE THEY TALK, my question is, WHAT ARE THEY SAYING? And also, there are a few filler episodes, because the anime is based off a manga and the manga is ongoing. Since the manga didnt come out every week, they had to drag out 2 episodes to wait for it. That's why I sayid Naruto had a lot of fillers, and just so you know, I like Naruto Shippuuden, I only watched Naruto because Shippuuden is a sequel. Also, you should look into "Full Metal Alchemist" or, better yet "Ergo Proxy" (even do I doubt you will understand anything). Some people cosplay to make fun, not to be "cool". The ones who think they look like the anime character, THOSE are the nerds. I cannot disagree there.

All they DO is talk. Then, pointlessly stretched fight scene, with every super move being shown in extreme slow-mo and still images (with only part of background moving), and talk-fest all again. You really didn't get my point, did you? So what would be so interesting for them to say? Typical anime mumbo-jumbo? "I must kill him" "I am demon" "blah blah"
If it was hardporno hentai cartoons, I would understand, but tales of ninja boy?

It doesn't really matter if something's cut or not. Swearing? So that makes Naruto cool? Over-breasted shitfaced grandmas?
Soap opera watchable?

Come on. At your age, few of my friends already started a family.

Oh come on, how the hell can you deny the awesome ness of it.

As much as I agree with you about the rest, what kind of an argument is that!?
At the age of 19, starting a family is much worse than watching animes all day. Because once you grow up, you can ditch animes easily.

As for Naruto, it's just mediocre. There are better animes and certainly worse ones.

Actually... Yes, it is. At a professional level. (on pics b and c, the girl is a famous cosplayer)

Now think again : Cosplay doesn't only consist in dressing, cosplayers make their own costumes. It's highly improbable that insecure ugly fat boys would be able to put that much effort in a sophisticated 5000 dollar costume for six months and ... show off like that. The kind of people InCreator was talking about are more likely to be touched by the hikikomori syndrome.

Worse? Of course I agree that this is worse. What? People in medieveal times married even at earlier teen age.
The argument was to remind Mykayel that his teenage is about to end, and it actually won't with ninja boy cartoons filling his head. That I find this simply strange. And I think that most of the unjapanized world finds. The hype of something so boring and pointless. There's of course good anime around. I personally liked Animatrix series, and how they used Matrix universe to tell some sci-fi stories in inexpensive form or endless effects. Anime, that is.

QuoteAt the age of 19, starting a family is much worse than watching animes all day. Because once you grow up, you can ditch animes easily.

"Once you grow up". Where I live, adulthood is reached at age of 18. This is where people (on official level) take you seriously, you can buy alcohol, drive a car, marry, join or start a political party, vote. I repeat, vote. And also, you're fully responsible of what you think and do. ie - you will go to a real prison if you commit a crime. World assumes you are serious individual with look and understanding on the world. That you are grown up. I don't really imagine prime minister discussing latest naruto episode during a lunch break in parliament. But by the law combined with 19-year olds' anime fandom, it's possible.

Well, and frightening.

As I said, the world of anime and cosplay puts term "nerd" into dimension for me unable to reach or understand.

Not that I'd hate Japanese culture or ninjas. For example, I find his avatar quite cool, playing a game or two of King of Fighters 2000 on a weekly basis.

I even don't think that my arguments are too important: the whole not-anime-fan world would say something same or even worse. I hope you're prepared for this, Mykayel.

I'm not sure where you live, but here at 18 it's exactly the same. You can vote, drive, buy alcohol etc. Also, I give Naruto a 6 out of 10. (aldo the games receive a 10+ from me, unlike Mortal Kombat : Armageddon that I gave a 5) It's not my favorite anime, I just hate it when assholes consider themselves superior. You are the only one here who is acting like a total jerk. Let me wake you up to reality, most anime fans I know HAVE a family, MY GIRLFRIEND WATCHES ANIME FOR CHRIST SAKES! And all my exes did as well, and belive me, they are not nerds. Around here, PLAYING VIDEO-GAMES is also considered nerdy. So you, would be considered a nerd for playing adventure games. How do I get the non-nerd reputation? Simple, the people around here aren't as pig headed as you are. Watching anime doesn't make you immature, playing video-games doesn't make you immature eighter. NOT EVEN PLAYING CARD GAMES DOESN'T MAKE YOU A NERD. However, the nerds are the people who think they ACTUALLY LIVE in Star Trek, Star Wars, and anime worlds. I just watch anime because I like to. In fact my favorite anime is Monster, who you would consider boring since it IS mostly talk-talk, but it's like that because it's a thriller. The story is what matters, If you wanna see people getting shot, blown up, stabbed etc, go watch brainless stuff like Rambo or Jean Claude Van Dam movies. I just prefer to watch something that is actually interesting, not just plane violent.

PS: Love your work on Background art and Character art btw. I'm kinda jealous there ^^
