UT Dedicated server

Is there any interest for an AGS UT game?

If we can get a decent number of players i'll run a dedicated server for a bit of a game.

Which UT do you mean? old one UT, UT2003/04 or UT3?

Also, does this require using some internet service where you have to pay for registration or something?

The particular UT i was thinking of was the original.. though i have them all.

and no id run the server on my own PC. I have a pretty good internet connection (24down/2up) and should be able to support a pretty large game. since the original UT game was around in the dialup era.

I've been playing UT (the one and only) for years now, more on then off, so I would be interested. Actually, I have experience hosting servers, so if you run into problems, let me know.

theres no excuse for not owning the original.. its about Â£5 on steam right now.. the whole UT pack is only Â£22 i think.

ok so the server is up.. Can someone join it to make sure its joinable from an external IP?

the server address is mediacentre.dynalias.com
and the game password is AGS

You plan on playing at Quake speed or the original UT speed? Oh, and it's 10 euros, just checked, and besdies, there are free fps-s in that graphic quality (and better) out there...anyway, nevermind me.

I'll install UT and maybe could try later this day.

Though now when I think about this, last time I played UT on my current machine, I got some periodic lagging; maybe it has some issues with my Vista, not sure.

You mean can you steal it? Yes i dont think there are any limits on private servers.. feel free to pirate.

And graphic quality is really not everything :p UT is still one of the best FPS games full stop.

EDIT: ok, looks like I have connected, there was skyscrapers map and insta-gib mode.
Nobody else was playing at the moment though, so I quit.

Is there only 1 game possible on the server? Who selects map and parameters?

the server works on a map list. So it cycles through the maps.

The admin can alter the game settings

I am online now and rarring to play this evening. Won't be around forever though, I'm also in the mood for Civ 4, so come on down!

Also, Calin, a few suggestions:

* Please leave all the original weapons as they were... Having only the shock insta-gib weapon is kind of incredibly boring IMO.
* Have a time limit, not a frag limit, or both. The problem is that if there're only two people, a map will take for freaking ever to change, 'cos it's just hide'n'seek to 30 frags and that's boring. 10-15 minutes and 30 frags max should be enough IMO.

It's awesome of you that you set up a server, anyway, I got UT just a day before you started this thread, so I'm really excited about it.

changes made.

Now a ten minute time limit and a frag limit of 20.
and insta gib has been removed which should make lag less of a problem... but most people seem to have pings of about 70 which is pretty good.

EDIT: Ive also altered the maxclientrate which should improve pings alittle.. but i have an upstream of 2 meg so it shouldnt really be a problem.
