Wow, guys! I HAVE to share this with you!

I got my cover of a jesus jones song on the most popular unofficial jesus jones website! (That's linked by the band's own webpage)

http://www.cmapworld.org/news.html

Jesus Jones are my fave band of all time, so to know that many Jesus Jones fans will hear it is an honour and this ROCKS!

:D

Nikolas

Wow Matt, I HAVE to post to this thread.

I love it!

Once more guys listen to his music!

Once more, Matt, please give me the money you owe me from the advertising. LOL

Anyway very nice, and I like your voice a lot. And lots of other things too.
Do you mind mild critique?

ManicMatt

Thanks Nikolas!  :D

I was starting to feel ignored...

Criticsm has aided me before in the past, so sure!

(Although I'd like to point out that I made this song in 2003 and don't have the original data file anymore)

Nikolas

Matt, sorry it took me so long...

But here it is.

Note that the critisism is not for you to "correct" the song, but to give you ideas for the next ones...

The first thing that struck me is the hissing sound from the begining. I'm not sure if you did tha on purpose... But even if you did, it sounds too...flat...
The voice could go a tad louder, some things are hard to hear.
The piano is beautifull, but give more benefit to the "breathing" noises that come in there (and come be heard there, since it is rather empty).
The drums could use a better mixing. You mixed them all together before the rest of the song? Cause some things again are hard to hear.
The ending sounds a little bored out... The cymballs are all the same. A little variation couldn't hurt (velocity-wise)
Note that I have never heard the original, so I have no idea how far you took it.

Overall I like your ideas and your music, as well as your production skills.

Spoiler
And I'm so amazed that you didn't know mp3 (with the voices in your game and all)! How can this be?

I hope that this observations, rather than bad comments for bad music (which is not), will help you in the future...

ManicMatt

Thankyou for your ideas!

As I said, I made this years ago, so it doesn't reflect my current abilities.

The hissing sound is because I recorded the song (and the album it's off) on to cassette, as I didn't have a CD recorder at the time. Also it will sound flat because it's on tape.

Didn't know mp3? I don't understand! What I meant by not having the data file, if that's what you are getting at, is that if I wanted to do this song again I'd have to re-write it from scratch. I don't have the save file, or even the program I wrote it on.

You're right about the drums at the end!

The original musically is utterly different, sort of tribal sounding drums and swirly guitars. I didn't even keep the original notes, just the tempo and the lyrics, and the same way of talking/singing them.

I appeciate you giving me the time of day, if you had not posted here, then nobody would have and I'd have been a sad bunny!

Nikolas

Wasn't it you, that in your game Secrets, had recorded 80-90 Mbs of voices? And thought it was too much? And had never thought to make them into Mp3? (About the mp3 comment).

Anyway, I think we should let this thread die in oblivion, now that you're not a sad bunny anymore (thanks to me!!!!!!!)
