Just another quick question. A couple of months ago I was able to check my hotmail emails anonymously. Now they've intergrated some thing where a built it "web messenger" signs you in when checking your emails. Not only is this causing my PC problems, its allowing people on MSN to see that I'm online when I don't really want them too, becuase I just want to check my mail.

Is there any way of turning it off, or is it time to get a gmail account?

???

m0ds go to options on the top right side of the window... Go to the bottom link click it... On that page is a checkbox, uncheck it... hit save...

Enjoy

Awesome!! Thanks dude :)

I think it's time to get Gmail irrelevant of whether you can turn it off or not ... ;)

Definitely the latter. Hotmail is so last century (and service-wise, it can't compete with either Yahoo or G-mail).

I didn't know people still used Hotmail. ;D

Definitely go Gmail, mods, I can send you an invite (as can probably everyone else here) if you need one. I just love the Google search within Gmail.

I still use hotmail when I sign up for websites that I know are going to send me spam.

And all my MSN Messenger contacts are added under that address...

But as for actually using it for an email address? That's just insanity.

For once, I agree entirely with everything monkey_05_06 just said.    ;)
Ah! There is no emoticon for what I'm feeling!

You can always use Mailinator (or similar service) for that:

I prefer having the security that I pretend Hotmail offers my personal information.

You give your real personal information to spammers?
I use mailinator also, it's a very handy service.

Blechh...i can't stand hotmail!  Why do you need to sign in with @hotmail.com rather than just your username?  Oh, because they bought out other email companies and now we have the extremely un-userfriendly necessity of having to type in @hotmail.com.  It's these little things that drive me nuts.

Oh, and you can't search your email.  You have to scroll through page after page after page after page to find that old email you need.

Get gmail.  It's waaay better.

Someone spam spielbergjnr@hotmail.com with an invite! Looks coool :D

Never...ever...ever...give me your email address and tell me to spam... :=

15 invites should be enough, eh? :P

Just so I can be the odd duck in the pond - I've been usiong hotmail for something like... 4, 5 years? Golly, does times fly. Anyway, in all that time, I've had a couple of minor setbacks - but then I've had setbacks all over the net from time to time. And recently I got that upgrade in Hotmail space, from 2 to 25 MBs. I don't get spam, unless for the odd e-mail twice a week - at most. It's always worked well. I quite like the interface. May be so "last century", may be obsolete in some ways, but it was quite simple to set up and is quite simple to use.

Mind you, I lie in the personal information I give Hotmail. It thinks my real name is Gabriel Knight. But then, I'd do it with any e-mail service.

Aren't you the one that said you actually prefer IE to Firefox?

So last century!

I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing to like Hotmail, but Gmail does offer a lot more. There may be something useful that Hotmail has that Gmail doesn't, but honestly I can't think of anything.

It really all comes down to personal preference though, and if that's what you like, then that's what you like. ;)

I'm still using the Hotmail account I made in 1998.

Then you can keep inviting yourself until you have 100.

No more, no less.
