nice laptop and all that, but the power supply is seemingly dead. So... a problem to solve.
Official Dell power supplies are around 50 euros! Is there an alternative in Europe (or in Greece even more?)
Perhaps an older dell power supply would work (if the specs where the same)?
Any other ideas, please? pretty please? :=
I would assume as long as all the specs are the same it should work with any power supply for laptops you might have.
Or you could just donate that laptop to me ;) ;D.
LOL!
Well, problem solved. Found much cheaper universal power adapter, so I just bought that instead...
Isn't there something in Dell laptops which makes them purposely run with reduced performance when you put a non-Dell power adapter?
Not quite sure on that. Can you specify? Right now it is working (the power adapter) and it is charging, albeit a bit slow. But already it was charging rather slow before the power adapter was killed...
All I know is what a friend of mine who has a dell laptop told me. I tried to back it up with a Google search, and accidentally came across an actual post started by this friend :P

It might be that this doesn't apply to all Dell laptops, or some non-Dell adaptors still get accepted, but his laptop did run with reduced performance. The sad part was that his adaptor was the original that came with his laptop, which one day decided to be unrecognisable.
yup this happened to me.
My charger started to die and the laptop didnt recognise it as a proper dell charger so it ran at reduced performance and wouldnt charge the battery fully.
stupid dell.
Aww man, my gf is having the same problem with her Dell laptop. The bastard things won't charge if you've even slightly damaged the AC adapter. I have to buy a new female input and adapter as dell are fucking con artists! The laptop still gets power but Dell have decided that it's not allowed to charge.
Pah! Give me magnetic power any day, apple are genius for that.
