Title: WALKTHROUGH/HINT System Talk About
Post by: Dualnames on Tue 20/11/2007 08:36:18
Well, I was checking out the hints and tips section and as usual since many people create topics about the same thing and other forum rules are getting violated I was wondering how come and there is nobody here that's keeping an up to date site with all walkthroughs about every game that gets released.. I'm sure someone does but it's actuallly unknown to a big part of the AGS forums.. Some people ask me to send them a walkthrough so they can use it on their site.. I know the thread says hints but only a 2% asks for a hint. The rest ask for a solution.. All the topics related to my games stop when I post the walkthrough..

Anyway, and another matter. I've put hint system on my game.
Those of you who have played Goblins will understand what I'm talking about
for the rest of you, well Goblins was an adventure game and it had  a very useful hint system that could be used a certain number of times per save game...so that people wouldn't exploit it.. It opened up a GUI and gave up the full solution... My GUI is displaying a message with the solution for every puzzle in the room. I'm thinking of changing it to display hints instead..

As I already said, I really like this system. Also think of adding some funny icon to the hint button (like jokers in Goblins).

GameBoomers (http://www.gameboomers.com) have an up to date list of hundreds of free games which includes quite a nice percentage of AGS games. And nearly all of them are accompanied by walkthroughs.

If your're looking for a particular walkthrough you could do a lot worse than try there.

I do think there should be an up to date and alphabetical list somehwere... even if it just points to each game's respective Hints and Tips thread on AGS.

Yes that is probably the most sorry-looking wiki page I have ever seen.  haha.

I rather have hints than a complete walkthrough. If I start using a walkthrough for a game, usually every time I get stuck I immediately grab the walkthrough.  ::)

Heh, Monkey Island took me and my brother weeks (that was ofcourse in the pre-internet era), because we only got some hints and tips from game magazines.

I have the same problem.

I rather liked the Discworld hint-o-matic (http://www.us.lspace.org/games/discworld/dw1_jscr/hinto1.html) when I was playing it. So something similiar would be awesome, but a lot of work.

Edit: Oh, and there was this owl in simon the sorcerer who gave random advice. I hated it :)

I've actually tried to reach that style of hints... not a bad idea.
