Title: Watch My Award Winning Film
Post by: LGM on Thu 26/07/2007 17:51:20
Yes, that's right folks. I've finally decided to release my film "Somos Las Bolas" onto the internets free of charge.

What does this mean? Well, it means I want you to watch my film because having people see it is much more important to me than making any money from it. BUT, I do like money so here's the deal:

I have hosted the film on Revver, which is an ad-affiliate site that will give me a share of profit from any revenue generated with the viewings of the video. So the more people that watch the video, and decide to click on whatever short, unobtrusive ad is placed before and/or after it, the more money I will get. This money will be used to create more films, of course, and I only do this because I worked so hard on the film and this is the only way I can get a little reward from it without making people pay to watch it.

Now, with that being said, I do ask that if you like the film alot that you consider purchasing the DVD for the cornucopia of special features within it including deleted scenes, outtakes, feature-length commentaries, and even an interview with the author Philip J. Reed, VSc (Yea, the guy that made Larry Vales).

So, without further ado, here is "Somos Las Bolas," the best low-budget film of Student Films Across America 2007:

Also, thanks so much for putting it out there for us to watch for free! :)

Ah, the (in)famous ping-pong movie?

Watching now!

EDIT: Done. Admired camerawork and technique, but I was eventually bored as hell. Sorry.

That's it you prick! I'm tired of you begging everyone for money! I'm going to hijack this movie off of that website and put it on my Zune and share it with everyone I know!

Interesting film by the way. "You are my friend. I am Enrico." That made me laugh.

Really nice movie LGM and well done for winning the award! Should I ever be able to afford it then I'll buy me a copy. I look forward to your next production. But I hope you sack the SLB DOP :p ;)

This show looks really interesting, but before I watch, let me ask: did this make it onto 'On The Lot'?

Is all the narration straight from the short story?

Not all of it, some of it I wrote myself.

Also, Increator: FINALLY! Someone admitted it. I think it gets sort of boring at parts. But I hope you watched the whole thing. I think the ending is worth it. But hey, thanks for your honesty.

monkey: hahah, I'm not asking for money! But I figure you're joking so whatever. Thanks for watching ;)

m0ds: I can't sack myself.... Wait, that sounds dirty. Don't worry, next movie I make I'll be using a steadicam so you don't have to get seasick. Promise.

Steel Drummer: It was on the site, yea.. Well, a five minute version. I didn't make the show though. Haha.

That's an example of my patented eXXXtreme sarcasm. Although I probably will put it on my Zune. ;)

I did find the show interesting, though the ending seemed...perhaps a bit rushed. I was kind of confused by the ending...although it did somehow leave me craving more. You jerk. ;D

It's what I do best. Really.

I'll admit, the reason it is boring at parts and the ending seems to go by too quick is because the boy who played Andy quit production halfway through the film. THis left me scrambling to find a replacement to no avail. So I had to shoot the rest of the film in a way where I didn't need him, making the film much weaker than it could've been, but also shedding a different light on the story.

Great recovery then. That makes a lot of sense, thinking back on it though...

Well knowing that you only filmed half of it before he crapped out on you it does make much more sense. You should have had him die in a horrible car crash and given him a closed-casket funeral. :P

I actually got the same feeling.

The main problem I see with it is that its not a film, its more like a book and someone is reading it. Basically, it suffers in the lack of visual actions.

Yep, yep, yep. All faults I completely agree with. Which is sad, because I wanted to avoid the book feel but had to go that route in the end because of the circumstances.

My next film will have no voice over at all.

So did you actually make money off this movie?    Net loss or net gain?

I really enjoyed this. Interesting concept and storyline as well as good actors. :)

Yea Evenwolf. i've made about 2,100 including prize money. So that's like a net gain of 1,800 if you incorporate all the money I've spent in the process of making it and distributing it

If this is your first complete film, congratulate yourself! The music carried the scenes between shots well. You had interesting compositions and a few well placed camera tricks (superimposing the lights while unfocusing, etc).

A few things dissatisfied me. It seemed like the most interesting parts weren't shown (the actual table tennis matches, the hand accident, the leg accident, etc.). Considering the budget, very excusable. The lack of characters with memorable personalities stood out, too. The current ones would've worked in a feature length film, when the viewer enough time to spend with the characters to care about them. However, in something this sort, they feel vague (and this is where the boredom creeps in). To me, the most interesting part of the film was when the Spanish kid was introduced (an event which overshadows the climax).

The biggest problem I had with the film was the narration. I could literally walk away from my screen, only listening to the audio, and I wouldn't lose much information. It's all "tell" and little "show". It feels like you weren't confident in the actors to convey the emotions.

Sorry if this sounds harsh, I did enjoy it. Make more!

Normally I turn off stuff like this within a minute or 5 to 10. I managed to finish watching this in one go, which in my opinion says something positive.

Though I agree with the comments about the pacing in the second half as well as the fact that the characters were fairly shallow and uninteresting.

Best movie about ping pong I've ever seen though :=

Sorry [lgm] but I think Hollywood might beat you in revenue generation...

hahaha My mom saw that trailer when we say Die Hard 4.. And she was like "Did you know this was coming out when you were making your movie?"

And of course I did. haha. I can't wait to see it either.

Although Voh and Big Brother, do take into consideration that the character playing "Andy" left nearly halfway through production, putting me into panic mode and effectively making every other "good" scene completely unfilmable.

If you guys want the script to see what could have been, I'll glad you send you the link.
