To an overheating processor! Damn!

I was so involved in my sprite work that i had nothing saved, and my computer just decided to turn cut off after i got to the final result.

This sucks muchly, is there any way of retrieving the cache of unsaved files that you were editing in photoshop? I doubt it.

Sorry, vent over. This ever happened to anyone else? I'm normally hitting ctrl+s every five seconds.

The thing I love about 3d studio max is autobackups. You can set the number and the time lapse you want Max to autosave the project you're working on. Photoshop should have this and I'm surprised that they don't. There is a program you can purchase that adds this feature to Photoshop but c'mon Adobe

been there, done that, got the T Shirt!
Just before Xmas our PC fried the CPU fan, it didn't even go noisy like they normally do, now our processor is twitch as hell and loves to shut down randomly
it also seems to know when your making progress and neglected to save for awhile
none of my software auto saves either, it can be soul destroying

I've developed that habit over my time in using computers. Save early, save often. Hell, I still copy and paste most major forum posts I do due to that sh*tty habit of Internet Explorer not reaching a page and my post not still being there when I hit Back.  :o

The fortunate part of re-doing work that you've lost is that, typically, you've already done the "mental work" in how it's set out so you know exactly what you're, forgive the term, 'reproducing'.

Yep, been there done that. I've fried my hard drive no less than twice. In one case I could recover 90% of the data through manually reconstructing the partition table. In another it had become physically defective and the stuff was lost.

For a while my computer was so buggy that I expected frequent crashes and backed up compulsively.  Some times I get caught though.

The fortunate part of re-doing work that you've lost is that, typically, you've already done the "mental work" in how it's set out so you know exactly what you're, forgive the term, 'reproducing'.

Often I'm so disheartened by the loss that it can be weeks or months before I resume work on that particular item.  When I do it's usually superior to the first effort.

Myself, I have a very unhealthy habit of hitting control â€" s every 30 or so seconds. I'm looking at my keyboard now and on the S key and the left control key the letters are entirely worn off. I'll even be playing a game and find myself hitting control â€" s in a vain attempt at saving my progress.

I know, we we get so into the art, or the music, or whatever we are working on, that our brain thinks " Save files?! We don't need no stinking save files!" Then God, the great pumpkin, or maybe the CPU gremlins, say "Heh, heh, Yes you do," and crash the whole darn thing, Curse, You Great Pumpkin!!!!, But I digress.
