Welcome back, everybody!!!
...wait, no... Strike that, reverse it... I'M the one whose been gone.
I just wanted to swing in here and say hi to everybody. I've missed being a part of the forum, and with my tabletop RPG ready to be published and my first full-length novel completed and currently in the mailboxes of a ton of literary representatives, I have time to come back and be a part of the goings-on around here.
Everyone please check out my new "welcome back" game, Alpha X: Project SMASH, available
here (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=837/).
Yay! I'm back!! For good this time!!!
Welcome Esper!
Let me be the first to say that I've missed you immensly!
Last year we were exchanging 5-10 PMs a day, and after that nothing :'(
I hope all trouble is gone :)
Nik!
(runs toward Nik, arms outstretched... chariots of fire begins to play)
I missed you buddy. Is that your kid? Well, of course that's your kid. He's bigger than I recall, but children do that, don't they?
I made the gif for Nik! ^_^
You and I have been skyping so it doesn't really feel like you've gone anywhere for me!
*ahem*
Skype???
You BASTARD! You told me you did't chat . BOO HOO HOO OHH!
Ok! (esper also used Y! Messanger ;))
That is my kid. My younger kid, right now 14 months. On that gif, kindly offered from Matt, he is 6 months old! a really mature baby! :D
Hey Esper, ya slacker, nice to see ya back 'round here. ;D
Played your new Alpha-X game the other day for a while. Great job (though I did encounter a couple of bugs and minor annoyances in it), but overall a really nice little game which I enjoyed. You have a talent for making a game that captures the player's interest.
Well, don't be too much of a stranger now. Stick around. Besides, maybe I'll need someone with a dark twisted mind like yours to soon help me in Beta-testing my Rise from the Abyss game. ;)
What do you mean, I told you I didn't chat. I talk to you on Y! whenever I see you on, but we do have quite a bit of difference in time. You know, Matt just stays up later.
Thanks a ton, Barbarian, and I'll be most happy to do anything you need.
Welcome Back esper,
Love, Vinnie Barbarino
:)
Yay, another person running the gambit of publishing hell. Good luck!
Hey esper, welcome back! I was wondering what had become of you. I was pretty much gone for some time myself. Still working on my new site and trying to keep up with life in general, outside of AGS. :P
Stop by sometime, you hear? :D
Domino, Progzy, hey guys. Good to see you again.
Progz: yeah, publishing has to be the most nerve-wracking industry in the galaxy. Luckily, I think I might have gotten things to look up a bit. Look on shelves next year for a book entitled "Dark Hearts" by an author named Callan Souza.
Rharpe, I checked out your site... I think I remember going once upon a time and seeing a little bare-bones site up. You're really making a nice li'l setup for yourself over there. When i get a bit more time, I might stop in and join the fun. good stuff, glad to see you, man.
Any chance the book will be punlished in Norway? :D
Not at first, but if it sells enough I'll probably get some worldwide rights goin' on! I'm not sure how it works, but I think my agent takes a bigger cut of the royalties if it's published abroad... >:( Dirty stinkin' Norweigians!!!!!!!
Even if I don't go worldwide, which my first book probably will not, you can still order it off Amazon.com, barnes and nobles, etc.. I know my first two books (that no one knows about because I went with a crappy company without a marketing department) sell more copies in Germany than they do in America, so hey: anything's possible :P
Esper: I also know from first-hand experience how hard it is to get a book published and even harder to get promotions & sales for it once it's published.
My book has been published now for close to a couple of years now and still not many sales for it yet.Ã, I finally figured out how to "self publish" it myself via the internet (it's now up on LuLu and Amazon), but I'm also realizing I have to do my own promotions for it (which I've been trying but still not much results from that yet).Ã, It just seems that books are a hard thing to sell unless you "get lucky" and are also willing to work hard to promote it (or have a publishing company willing to promote for you as well).
Ã, Ã, Anyways, it can be done, but in my experience it's not an easy thing to get a book published as well as having a good success in selling the book.Ã, But hey, at least I did it and accomplished what I set out to do. And it's been a great learning experience too.
And just in case anyone here was interested about my book, you can see info for it over at: http://www.lulu.com/content/228578Ã,Â
LuLu.com is good for people trying to get their book "self published" and they wil also help you to get listed on Amazon.com as well.
I also found another site recently that helps authors in getting their book published online. Looks interesting but I've not yet used their service:
http://www.blurb.com/
Ã, Ã, One of the requirements for after getting your book set-up with them is that you order yourself a copy as a test, but it seems they don't yet have service to mail to where I reside ( Hong Kong ).
Well, sorry for rambling on.
I wish you all the best with your book projects.
Welcome back indeed, and I'm looking forward to your book and games.
Is this your first book?

Is there somewhere I can buy Books 1 and 2 together if so?
That would be it. It's a bit overpriced for a 126-page book, but that's what you get for going through a less-than-reputable publisher :(
I'm not sure where they can be bought together. I've seen some cheaper ones going on EBay... As far as I know, Amazon, Books a Million, and Barnes and Nobles should have them, although people have been telling me that amazon stopped selling the sequel.
Here it is, in case you can't find it: http://www.booksamillion.com/ncom/books?pid=1413761062&ad=FGLBKS
EDIT: By the way, here's a review of the Days of Old, book 1, from the guys over at G-POP.NET.
http://www.g-pop.net/DaysofOld.htm
Days of Old part 1 and 2 are available on Amazon.co.uk for around 8-9 pounds each!
Someone should write a "How to make an AGS game in 30 days... or less." Or "AGS for Dummies!" I think they would be great. The proceeds could go to all that participate their time. A collaborative effort!
Well, seeing as how most of my games have been made in one week... Unfortunately, nobody knows what AGS is...
Okay, rharpe, I don't know if that was a joke or not, but now that I think about it... if Chris would let us package AGS with a big tutorial book..... Nah, it would never happen.
I don't see what the issue would be with packaging AGS with the book so long as it was made clear that the software on the CD was free and could be downloaded online and would no additional cost to the price of the book.....yeah. It could never happen.

No, no, not a joke! I think it would be great. Obviously we'd get a professional editor and Chris would decide what is put into it, but I have a good feeling that this would be a hit... at least in the United States!
I'm a little late, but welcome back nonetheless!
Hey Squinks! Good to see you. Check your PM's.
Rharpe... I hate you for putting this bug in my ear about the book. If you mention something about it to someone, I'll back you up.
Who hasn't read this post??? I'm sure the "authorities of AGS" have seen this and/or have already pondered on the thought of a book. Tell me I'm wrong.
Stop pondering and let's make it happen people!!!
