I played Phantasmagoria but I was about 4 or 5 and my mom wouldn't let me play parts of it lol!

I just remember a gypsy lady and some man chasing a woman and that the cd case had a crap ton of disks... oh and shivers 1 that game I remember perfect, I had to download the midis cause I loved em.

Thanks for the suggestions I'll check em out.

Not REALLY an adventure game, and not really new or anything, but I recently played Bastion, and it has amazing narrative and story presentation :D.

That, and for old, Grim Fandango's inner monologue on his adventures was incredibly awesome and witty.

Now, with his very own game: Alien Time Zone

I rather did like bastion!

I don't think I've ever heard of Grim Fandango I'll have to check it out.

What!? ...wait, just a sec...WHAT!?
We don't take kindly to people who don't know the adventure game works of Tim Schafer around these parts.

Just kidding, also check out Broken sword 1 and if you like that one play BS2 as well.

I'll check out grim fandango too.

I've never played Grim Fandango (I at least know what it is though, I mean geeeeeeeeze... :P). Or 99.9% of the other most famous adventure games.

I did play Beneath a Steel Sky though. Rather enjoyed that one.

I was also going to say The Dig...but then I realized Mehrdad already suggested those two that I was going to say.

So, I'll go cliché and go for The Secret of Monkey Islandâ,,¢ and LOOMâ,,¢. :)

CaptainD

I'll second Broken Sword 1, fantastic storyline.  (I love the second game even more, but storyline-wise the first game is stronger.)

The Uncertainty Machine also has a cool storyline that's very well developed.

When it comes out (17th June?), you definitely need to check out Resonance!

Ghost

I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream (very dark though, don't play when already depressed!). Kyrandia 2 is good even though you have to make a lot of the story yourself. And Blade Runner, though this is a pain in the *ss to run on modern computers. If you are willing to play an IF, I recommend Curses and Jigsaw, by Graham Nelsen, both very, very good in terms of story and "blank spots to fill in".
The IF games can be found for free here: http://inform7.com/if/anthology/

One more vote for Grim Fandango. One of two of my favourite games of all times.
Sanitarium - psychodelic, twisted, simply excellent if you enjoy psycho-horrors. And if you enjoyed this one, you'll probably love ags-made Downfall.
Non-adventure:
Second favourite of mine, Planescape: Torment. Very book-like narrative, great characters, twisted world.
Born to the sound of marching feet,
Trained as a military elite.
Each of us drilled and singled out to be,

Oooooh yes! +10!

If you like sci-fi, Beneath a steel sky is going to beat pretty much anything else. It's still my most favourite adventure game of all time.

Grim Fandango is one of my favourite games of all time, and the fact that someone hasn't heard of it DISGUSTS me to my VERY CORE. I HATE YOU.

(Hope you enjoy it, you're in for a treat! :))

And, if you like sci-fi and\or enjoyed Planescape: Torment, you can check Knights of the Old Republic II by Chris Avelone, who also wrote P:T. If you find Star Wars repulsing in general, skip it. If you liked original trilogy (ESB especially), give it a try - it's probably darkest, most complex and ambiguous story told within that universe.
Don't forget restoration mod if you're up for it.

+20!   Seriously, PS:T is one of the most unique and engaging computer games ever written. Just look at that trope page...
