Does anyone remember what was going on in May in the AGS forums?
I ask because I looked up the site on Alexa.com and it said www.agsforums.com peaked in late-April/early-May, somewhere around 65,000 as a traffic ranking.
Of course I remember! It was the Second Coming of Chris!
(remember? when Chris Jones set up a webcam and we all watched him...uh... yeah)
Yeah, I remember now -- I couldn't stand for weeks after that day.
I still have a painful time putting on pants...
Didn't Oddyseus Kent come out around that time?
Yahtzee still rules!
/me ducks and covers from stones thrown at him by forum members
Nah it wasn't that -- OK came out last year.
Hmmm, for some reason AGS got very popular around that period and I'm not sure why.
It was in the top 70,000 websites (considering the millions of websites across the world, that's pretty good).
I wonder what happened.
Well I joined on March 18th ... so once people realized I was here they started flooding the site.
I'm sure that's what happened.
;)
The fact that it was summer might be contributing factor to the traffic. More of us were free to use AGS, than during the school year.
Looking at the games that came out, KQ2, I believe could be a big factor, in drawing people towards our site.
That's all I can think of, as far as main contributions to an increased flow of users during those months.

April/May is summer? Anyway, half of the traffic here is from the southern hemisphere!

To quote Tierra's FAQ, The King's Quest II+ VGA remake was released on December 3rd, 2002....
April is the begining of summer here in Florida, yes. And as far as KG, I just did a brief search on the last posted message on that thread. So, that data, is inaccurate.
But that doesn't mean KQ2 didn't draw in a crowd then, as, because there was more people on, they had time to look for KQ2, thus more traffic.
We did have the debate competitions somewhere in that time period, too. And I'm sure that cause an increase in traffic, as well.

Yeah, they did that for my 19th birthday. Bunch of swell guys.
the traffic was my fault. then again, It's not my fault I'm so popular :P
April and May? Man I have been here a long ass time. I'm supprised I can still handle talking to you people. :)
I think that was about the time of the n00b outbreak if I remember correct. Where they joined and told more people and they came and all regestered under 5 names because they didnt like the others... yeah...
Kings Quest II wasn't released in April-May 2003 -- It was released last year or else it would not be included in the AGS Awards.
I mean, I wouldn't include a game in the AGS Awards that wasn't released yet.
As for a possible n00b outbreak, I wonder what caused the flood of n00bs?
I mean, it's a pretty big fall to go from 65,000 to the current 300,000 or so.
I was on hiatus when the n00b invasion started.
I'd only been here for a month or two, so I have no particular insight into the matter. It's pretty interesting, though.
Well, the KQ2 speech pack was released as an April's fools joke. I think that jump from fan game to professional standard (albeit mid-nineties professional standard :)) might have something to do with it.
Several things I guess:
The KQ2 speech pack for one thing got the tierra page linked to from several sources. Slashdot for one:

These are just from slashdot. Those are the only references I can find to ags and/or tierra at all on there. All from this summer. Hardly evidence but I guess several other sites also linked to ags and/or tierra this summer. A sign of ags's maturity and people having leisure time I suppose.
