Post by: Red_Armadillo on Fri 22/08/2003 04:40:11

I belive RAR is a compressed file extension, so none to do with AGS... but not sure...

If it is compressed how would I "unzip" it?

Get WinRar at http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
It's shareware, but you can use it for 40 days.

Well I found a better one ;)
Power Archiver.
www.powerarchiver.com (http://www.powerarchiver.com)

It unzips just about everything  :)
Very useful! I haven't run into any thing I couldn't unzip with this yet.

And best of all, its free!
Er, at least I think.

EDIT: Yep its free, but you can buy it so it dosen't have that annoying start up message thing and has more features.

after about 30 or 60 days, PowerArchiver moans at you to buy it, it used to be absolutely free, but i don't think they ever expected it to become as popular as WinZIP, so now they want your money or nag you to death...

RAR is has better compression than winzip, and you can find cracks for it so you don't have to worry about that 40 day thing.

cnet did a little comparison of them
http://aolca.com.com/1200-2001-5057522.html

here's a crappy chart to compre rar to zip
http://www.rarsoft.com/compare.htm

anyway winrar also handles iso files, something power archiver doesn't

so let's review,  rar has better compression and more features.

rock!

http://www.ultimatezip.com/ if you're concerned about piracy. That's an archive program that handles just about anything under the sun, and it's free.

BCN, can you see the little "edit" button? USE IT.
RAR is nice because you can also split large files into "volumes' and protect files from damage. It also compresses to a smaller size than winzip.

Have you tried power archiver? It's just like WINZIP! It annoys you to no end to buy it! >:( HOWEVER, I will aggree that it is more powerful than WINRAR.

Femme Fatale: Did you draw the characters yourself? If so those are pretty good

Get FILZIP. It's free, unlike the very annoying winzip - http://www.filzip.com/

it can uncompress anything including rar, and zip (of course).

That's damn good compared to mine! My main character looks like a Michael Jackson in the 16th century.
