If you follow these things at all (or if you've seen my Facebook wall) you'll know things have been stirring in the Fox camp for a few months now. And today they finally made it official.

Mulder and Scully are coming back!

It'll be a special 6 episode event series, which is absolutely fine with me. There has never been a better time to bring back the show. People are paranoid about the government again, the show has been all over Netflix garnering a new generation of fans, Kumail Nanjiani's XFilesFiles podcast has been uber-popular (and is brilliant if you haven't given it a listen yet).  People have been begging for a new movie ever since the last one flopped in 2008. This isn't a movie, this is better.

I'm absolutely over the moon about this news. How do you you guys feel?

Haggis

I agree, special short run rather than full blown series is perfect. It's one of the first shows I remember rushing into school to discuss with my friends the next day. Hopefully the smoking man will be back... maybe he can update us on half life 3. And good old Walter... all those memories returning.

Yeah, I told my wife about this yesterday but she wasn't that excited. Said something like "But Mulder turned into a low-life sleazebag in his other show so I can't watch him without thinking about that."

I am stoked though!

As for The Smoking Man:

Spoiler
Didn't he get blown up by a helicopter missile or something?

Oh dear.

I wonder if this means my 'Great Gillian Anderson Crush of 1996' is back (or was it 1997)?

Gulp... :P

Mine never went away. Have you been watching The Fall. Ouch!

Yeah, it was pretty final :-/ Although I think he shows up in the Season Ten comics, not sure how canonical they are.

Nope, he got hired by the US Army and got to work at Black Mesa. Now he's spending time between dimensions with his little black briefcase, delivering mysterious advice every now and then.

Yessir, yes I have! *nudge nudge* *wink wink* (I've seen her also in some non-X-files feature films like House of Mirth and Straightheads and in Hannibal series)

Only the first season though... and they still didn't catch the guy, did they? it's a bit too over-arching plot for me. And that character she plays there, I find it so hard to like her! Perhaps if she was a hot ginger instead of ice cold blonde, I'd fall for the show much easier... :P

I sincerely hope the X-Files are going to track back their roots, roughly the first three seasons.

Without explaining too much or showing too much ('the monster of the week' on a silver platter, as in later seasons)!

Ambivalent & open endings - credits roll - mystery maintained!
Leaving you with that feeling in your guts that you'd like to know more,
but on the other hand you enjoy that sweet & uneasy sensation of non-closure.

Is Chris Carter involved in this at all?

In some way connected:
ABSOLUTELY stoked about 'Twin Peaks' in 2016! (not meaning to derail this thread, but YAY! V ;-D V)

I am sooo glad that I'm not alone! (nod)
There are those who believe that life here began out there...

I didn't like the series, but the FMV game was awesome because you could shine your torch in people's faces. Skinner was annoyed, ho ho!

He's absolutely involved. He'll be writing on each episode. And he's also confirmed that Glen Morgan, James Wong and Darin Morgan are all coming back.

Also looking forward to the new Twin Peaks :-)
