Title: What is the best paint program?
Post by: spc1208 on Mon 21/07/2008 01:06:22
I am already working on a game called monsoon: Conman using paint, however for any future projects, I would like to know what the overall best program to use is?

This isn't exactly the place to discuss such a subject. This forum is used for criticizing work, not discussing the best program of sorts.

Depends on what you want to do. It's all subjective anyway. Paint is perfectly fine.

Here you will find a big list of programs people use. Try searching for other threads about this. There are dozens where people talk about the pros and cons of each.

I like Photoshop, but Gimp and Paint Shop Pro are just as good. Do you want free or "free"? It's all up to you and what you're looking for.

This really isn't the place to talk about this, and with a little searching you'd see there was just a thread about this a few days ago. But, if you've got some sort of style you're after or some techniques, we'd be happy to help. You will need to provide us with some attempts so we can help you with your problems.

All stickied threads are great. Here's one with drawing tutorials.

For simple pixel drawings there's in my opinion no program better than Idraw 3.32.1 (or some version of that)

But if you want other more advanced features there are lots, gimp is a very good free program that I use.

Since you have to draw it all, there's no better paint program than you yourself.
It all depends on your own talent. What program you use is the one that suits you best.

That said, follow Evil's first link, download a few and stick with the one that suits you best. (I can recommend GraphicsGale btw.)

Since there must be an inner force to make people talk about their favourite paint programs, I'll answer quickly until this thread gets closed  ;D

I used to like DeluxePaint 2e, but it's undo function is so limited, that I switched to ProMotion. Grafx2 is similar to Dpaint but free.

This topic has been done to death ... but I'll answer just the same as I always do.

It's not the program, it's the artist.

I use photoshop but I've seen people do work in M$Paint that blows my photoshop work out of the water!

So what is the "best"?  I don't think that's a valid question ... perhaps "what is the best paint program for me" would be a better query.

And it's something only you can answer by trying a few programs and finding the one that suits you best.

Happy hunting!

You really need to read the forum rules and forum topics before posting, since there is a mighty list of paint programs available (and everyone has a different opinion on everything, including which paint program is the best).  Try them out for yourself and see which one you like.

Moving to general.

A good program, is always a good program; even if ones drawing skills are limited to stick figures.

So, M$Pain is excellent, and 'free' for anyone using window$.

If the artist does not practise to become good enough, even with an powerful programme, he usually messes up his artworks for good by using (abusing) the !1!WOOTWOOT!1! "advanced" features. (Excessive colour burns and L3N5 FL4R3!1! anyone?)

Try all you can, then you decide. There is no way someone can tell you "This one is the best".

Just read the list ProgzMax and try them all. There's nothing to lose, you know  ;)
