Personally i really like toasters. Especially the classic streamlined ones made of all metal. You can breathe on it and then rub your hand over it and see your reflection. I really respect that.

How about you guys? Any kitchen appliances specific to your region?
Gilbert? Wok? eh?
Scid? Waffle Iron? eh?
*Note, if someone takes this thread as inspiration to make "Who is your favorite communist dictator", or "What is your favourite "what is your favourite' Thread" - I will have this whole thing terminated immediately. This is serious and a valuable thread to learn from. Cuisines in different AGS lands!
Is the cheese grater an appliance?
But why, remix? Because you get a serene feeling when seeing a small pile of cheese strips form on a plate? is this something that stems from your childhood?
Please, I don't like to talk about it.
Man, I've beed wanting to ask this same question for a while now...just didn't have the guts to do it. Nothing bonds people together faster than discussing kitchen appliances...talking about your job is close, but not the same....
Mine would have to be :

The George Foreman grill, no other kitchen appliance better makes teh statement of who I really am....
/me goes to start "When was the last time" threads
If you post "When was the last time you used your George Forman?" my answer would be last night! I cooked 5 burgers in 45 minutes! They're brilliant, AND they cut the fat!
George Forman's grill has changed me as a person- in fact, I would say that no other kitchen appliance better makes the statement of who I really am....
oooh, does anyone have a fondue pot? There's alot to talk about there, like dipping meat and cheese into cheese or chocolate. These appliances are surely the work of some devine being.

AWESOME. It saddens me that I do not have one.
The Fridge!
Which kind of fridge? Double doors with freezer on side- fridge on the other? Or the more conventional freezer on top?
The ones you keep your food in. My current favourite is double-doored
The double-doored fridge is luxury, but the more conventional style allows itself to be fitted more easily into the available kitchen space - a definite advantage.
Do drugs count as kitchen appliances?
If not, I definitely rate the WOAH, KINGZJESTER JUST WALKED INTO THE LIBRARY.
The disadvantage is that the freezer is most convenient- at eye level - however most interaction will be lower than that in the fridge, where you have to bend down.
Smoothy maker! :D
Do you consider ice dispensers a must?
Personally I think there's a virtue in classical minimalism. Leaving the front an unblemished canvas, or increasing the amount of message space is something that must be considered when ice dispensers are discussed.
Now ice depensor means the little alcove on the door where you put the glass, and ice falls down. Those are WAY luxurious! I myself use trays alone and a bucket to empty into. I dream of a dispensor one day, but those also require additional plumbing.
*note, my sister has one and i believe it stopped working and could not easily be repaired- now the dispensor is merely a temptor of lost souls, and serves as a sad reminder of how much a chore cracking the ice out of the tray is.
Wait. Never mind. False Alarm.
It was a cleaning lady holding a mop.
The Internet Fridge!!!
http://www.lge.com/products/homenetwork/internetproduct/refrigerator/introduction.jsp
Why someone would need a fridge that is connected to the internet is beyond me, but it exists along with a few other wired appliances.
DVD capabilities? Weak!!
What if a fridge connected to the internet took virtual inventory of your food, then calculated and produced recipes possible with the food you have! Ingenius! No need for women anymore! ;)
I am tired of this "What us your..." Which is your???"... Haven't you had enough? This is just becoming stupid! And now...what? Asking which is the best Kitchen Applicance? This is the stupidititieiest question ever...
Everybody knows that the secret for making good crepes is to beat the dough correctly... So... why asking? The answers is clear... The beating machine!!!!!!
dang.....I am SURE I saw that recently. I just can't remember where!
As for my favourite kitchen appliance, the huge drainer thing. I don't know what it is called, it is like a huge pot with holes in it. Nothing more satisfying than shaking it and watching the water get out. Simplicity all the way! None of those hi-tech internet fridges!
The need for an ice dispenser varies depending on climate. So although I can see the advantage it would have to Naranjas down under, for me having half the freezer going to waste as an ice dispenser is less than necessary, and leads to undue bending down to reach the food - especially as ice dispensers tend to be placed at the top.

Blasphemy! No machine should touch crepe batter! Whisks only!!
As for my favorite kitchen appliance, it would either be the electric kettle or the blender!
Blenders are great! They have so many uses. Smoothies, milkshakes, frogs, getting rid of human remains... The possibilities are endless!
I realise this an awfully tradionalist choice, but I really can't imagine life without a simple pot:

Mmmm... Now I see that I posted a pic of a batter kneader... I think my choice is blender, sorry my proo Inglizh... And my lack of knowleadge of the Kitchen appliances, actually, dad and me haven't been in the kitchen since we preppaired some popcorn for eatingwhile watching the final of the Champion's league Cup that FC Barcelona won in London... I think it was in 1992... :-\
For all time favourite appliance, I'd have to go one up on Mr. Remo with...
THE ELECTRIC GRATER!!!!
This is not the kind I have. Mine is cooler, because it is made from CHEAP PLASTIC.
It grates cheese! And slices cheese! And crumbs bread! And grinds meat and nuts! And it keeps me from shredding my knuckles on a regular grater! I love it dearly.

No explanation necessary..

Electrical knives are for wimps
Baboyli, you speak of the mighty colander.
One would use this utensil to drain noodles, greens, and the like. A necessity in any kitchen.
Have we all forgotten the outstanding coffee machine? Where would we be without its earthshaking trickle?
Perhaps the coffee machine has integrated itself so deeply in every aspect of our lives (work, school, government, sex) that we all have forgotten its roots in the kitchen. A must have for any counter space:

Coffee machine! yes! yes!
I'd have to say my (somewhat) trusty microwave. I never use my stove at all anyways.
My microwave sucks, but at least it heats up my food. (well, just a little bit, food is always ice cold in the middle)
But, it's part of the family.
The microwave is cool. It's like, really futuristic, you go up and press all these cool buttons and then it cooks your food for you! And when you press the buttons they beep!
too bad my microwave has the old fashioned knob, and no digital timer. It's a newer microwave, but its a real cheap one which was given to me by my stepmother.
I'm almost afraid to stand in front of it while its being used. :)

Its probably better if you don't. I heard that the waves can be bad for your brain or something.
Blender (http://www.blender3d.org) is my favorite kitchen application.. Oh, wait..
What is this 'Kitchen' that you speak of - All I have for preparing food is A hungi an egg whisk and golden syrup.
- oh and by preparing food I mean : making love
Neh, I mean preparing food - weird loner that I am.
Here's a little fella I use to mix drinks:

can't live without it
A Zumex, of course ;D

I don't know about kitchen, but my favourite wood-working tool is the adze.
You could put an adze in a kitchen - Hell, you could put one ANYWHERE.
They're multi-purpose.
I just remembered the dishwasher. This machine saves atleast 30 hours of labor a week per household.
The sink is also a valuable appliance, but for other reasons.
Heh. I love microwaves , toasters are special in their own right but you can heat up nearly anything with a microwave and it's easier / not as annoying and time consuming as using an oven or stove top , and toasters can only heat up toast and things like pop tarts.
I also love fridges , provided they're working correctly ( mine had a problem with milk and stuff for a while...only the freezer would work well but it would ice up to o much...everything's fine now though ) .
Good one , Rave!
Now I wish I had that.
Why go to the store when you can make your own?
I need a pizza maker! :D
FOOLS! All of you! You know nothing! The greatest kitchen appliance of all time is that beautiful rotating mechanism that turn perfectly hand-thrown dough, personally spiced sauce, carefully grated cheese (from your handy electric turbo powered industrial-strenght cheese grater, of course) and specialized topings of meat scattered on top.Ã, And as it turns it perfectly cooks both the crust underneith while gently toasting the toppings above, sending an aroma of nervana wafting through the house, declaring the pressance of its cheesey pizza goodness to everyone. *sighs and drools all over his keyboard in a dream-like state*
