I've been thinking about this for a long time... not that I don't have enough work on my hands with my current game, but I'm thinking of redoing a movie for my next game.
But, just for yourself, which movie would you love to see as an adventure game?
For me: Donnie Darko. The intricate paradox that is time-travel, the future is set, all things follow a path, the Living Receiver, etc etc etc. That movie just had soooo much in it, it would be fantastic to take it and wring it inside out. :)
;D ;D Pirates of the Carribbean .... ;D ;D ;D
I think "A Life Less Ordinary" Would make an excellent adventure game. It follows the story of this guy, he's a janitor but he dreams of writing books. He gets fired and is replaced by a cleaning robot, so he goes to protest to the Owner of the company and accidently kidnaps his daughter. His daughter it turns out, is pretty evil, and teaches him how to make demands and everything... meanwhile, two angels have been sent from heaven to make them fall in love.
And, it has completely WHAT THE HELL!? Ending, just like MI2!!!! :D
Clash of the Titans. It just lends itself so well to sierra style PnC adventures. And theres all those cool Harryhausen monsters to draw! I've got 2 character portraits done- Zues and Calabas(sp). Then I got lazy and dropped the project (I was going to do portraits for the major characters). But man... to relive such a campy crap movie as that in point and click...
Army of Darkness.
Brazil.
James Bond.
Lord of the Rings, maybe...
I know one, but I'm not yet going to tell you, cause im writing on the story script.. of this adventure that im going to make, when I'm finished with Sam&Moos! ;) I can tell you only, that the game is going to be 1 room, and made with 3D Rendering ;) You fill the rest in yourself ;)
Spirited Away.
When I saw this scene from the film, I thought to myself it looks so much like a scene from an adventure game.

Feel... Alone
*sigh*
"A Life Less Ordinary" could be a cool, if confusing game. It MUST be made in claymation like the end of the movie though! :)
I once wrote a game design heavily inspired by Fight Club, but also by other novels of Chuck Palahniuk as well as Brett Easton Ellis. It was written as a mod for Deus Ex, but it never got far into production. I've been thinking of making it into an adventure game, but I'm not sure it would work as well, although the plot still rocks.
"Zero Effect", more or less unknown detective film starring Bill Pullman, would make a good game (better than the movie at least). And one thing I REALLY would love to make is "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - The Adventure Game".
I agree completely with Trap's list - ecspecially Brazil: that would make a great game. I think that a lot of Terry Gilliams' movies translate into adventure game pretty well: Time Bandits, Baron Munchhausen, etc.
The Goonies,
Back to the Future,
Total Recall,
Stargate
most of those movies just got turned into platformers...
Games based on movies would be terribly linear, unless new material was written. I think Back to the Future, like BOYD said, would be the best choice, simply because I love the trilogy.
When I have more time, I'll analyze the first movie in more detail and see whether it really can be made into a game.

Hmm.
How about The Great Escape?
or... Secretary?
Armour of God and/or Operation Condor could make good adventure games, plus you'd get to play as Jackie Chan!!!
A Jackie Chan game would rock!! How could it NOT be an action game though...
well, Gorgeous wasn't really strictly an action movie...
There was a Jackie Chan game on the PSX (that's right, you heard me - PSX; none of this 'PSOne' bullpoo) - a rather poor beat 'em up, IIRC.
Oh, Flippy - while Secratary is a surprisingly good film (no, seriously - stop looking at me like that) and proof if proof need be need be (anyone who spots the amazingly obscure reference there gets a pie) that any genre can have a quality work made of itself, I fail to see exactly how the dicking hell you would extract a concept for a game out of it - care to elaborate?

There's also a Jackie Chan platformer game for the NES, the name of which escapes me at the time, but was pretty fun to play. My friends and I used to rent it all the time.

I just found a rom for it at www.oldgames.nu - 'Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu' is teh english title, though it appears that the Japanese version was just 'Jackie Chan'.
I'm thinking of doing a game based on the Exorcist, after I finish Donna, that is.
Of course, I don't want to follow the movie in any way, just steal some ideas and make the main char an exorcist priest - combined with the priest from the Night of the Iguana.
There's no better main character than a smoking, life-weary priest - after a lesbian vampire, of course.
I once had an idea for an Exorcist game where you played the detective-type-person, and were investigating... stuff.
Oh, leave me alone; I had the idea when I was 11 and have only just remembered it. JUST FOR YOU.
11 years old?
Eh, I'm so way behind you, Westerners, that sometimes I don't even want to go outside.
