What should I put on my iPod?

Okay... So I just bought an 80gb iPod after I lost my nano. I figured I could invest some more money into it and avoid the issue with space I had on my previous one.

The thing is, I don't know what more to put into it! I'm not downloading illegally, but I have an external HDD with 51000 legal songs on it, if you wondered where I would get the songs from. Now, as you might imagine, 51000 songs is too damn much to put on that thingy. Here is where I need your help.

Bands/artists I've already got on the iPod:

2Pac
50cent
Alice Cooper
Antonio Vivaldi
Aphex Twin
Basement Jaxx
Bomfunk MC's
Bryan Adams
Chris Isaak
Daft Punk
Datarock
Dimmu Borgir
Dire Straits
Don Henley
The Doors
Dream Theatre
The Eagles
Eric Clapton
G-Unit
Gorillaz
Gotan Project
Infected Mushroom
Jethro Tull
Korn
Metallica
Mike Oldfield
N.W.A
Pantera
Prince
Raúl García Zárate
Robbie Williams
Russell Allen
Symphony X
Trivium

and

Turbonegro

I'm not looking for anything in any particular genre, just bands you like and such! :)

Thanks for all suggestions!

Slayer. Everybody needs Slayer... 8)

Tuomas

How about some music for a change?

ManicMatt

Delete these:

50cent
G-Unit
Robbie Williams

That is my advice! Really now Vict0r, it's a bit vague to ask everyone to name some music that you may or may not like!

Okay okay, you should add music by me, Nikolas and Voh. And geoffkhan. etc. There!

scotch

You bought 50 grand's worth of totally legal music and you don't know what you like yet?

My fathers and his dead best-friends music collection.

Well, of course it is! But I'll listen to every single tip that will be given to me and see if it is something that I might like.

I have a great deal of your music actually! Something by Nikolas aswell, but it's hard to get a hold of songs from these "amateur" artists. :-\

I thought you liked Jethro Tull ;)

Yay! Sounds good. Ten albums added :)

I have over 8,000 songs (almost all totally illegally downloaded!) and I'm running out of shit to download ... how can you have 51,000 songs?  Sheesh.

As was suggested ... music is too subjective to ask what we think you should put on the iPod.  When I read the "What are you listening to" thread (which maybe you should check out?) I find 99% of what is being recommended is shit to me.  Which is fine ... they aren't listening to it for me. :)

I too have the 80GB iPod ... I have it attached to the AVIC D3 in my car (coolest thing ever!).  I have all my music on it.  I use the "shuffle all" option the most, but I have recently discovered the wonderful power of the Smart Playlists.

If you don't know them.  Learn them.  Seriously.

I don't know how I managed without them for so long.

vict0r

As I said, it's my fathers music collection. Dunno where he got all the songs.

I agree that music is very subjective, but have a very wide taste in music and as you do, I use the "shuffle all" function very regular and skip if there are songs that I don't like.

And what on earth are Smart Playlists? It sounds like those word-lists on cell-phones. I don't understand how I managed without them.

Ghost

Since you mentioned Jethro Tull, "Heavy Horses" is always on my playlist, as are "Bends Like A Willow" and "Doctor To My Disease". To me, they never get boing to listen at. Since I don't know which albums you got, I can just recommend them and add: If you lack two of the songs at least buy "20 Years Of Jethro Tull" and never look back.

evenwolf

I'm not going to propose I have the best bands or the "top ten"  such ballyhoo.    I'm just going to tell you which artists of the hundred or so that I play over and over again.   Dont know why, just crave these bands more than the others:

Sting
Tom Waits
Elvis Costello
Paul Simon
Cat Stevens
Talking Heads
The Clash / Joe Strummer
Queen
Frank Zappa
David Bowie
Leonard Cohen
Johnny Cash
Joe Cocker
Sam Cooke

and of course

.....

.....

.....

Bob Dylan

These are the bands on my ipod that I can listen to 20 - 40 songs in a row and need nothing else.  Depends on the mood I'm feeling of course.
"I drink a thousand shipwrecks.'"

LGM

You. Me. Denny's.

R4L

You need these my friend!  ;)

Dragonforce
Alice Cooper
Ozzy Osbourne
Pantera
Megadeth (FTW!!!)
David Bowie
Metallica
Alice In Chains
Nitro
AC DC
Guns & Roses
Jimi Hendrix
Doobie Brothers
Iron Maiden
Bob Marley
Anthrax

Just my picks really. If you go with any hip-hop, get old school. Public Enemy, The Roots, The Sugarhill Gang... best hip-hop ever.

I can't believe this, I was going to enter this post to say Symphony X, someone else hears Symphony X  :o

I'd recommend Angra, is a very good band. Try listening Angra - Carry On for example.

What the hell are you talking about?  He's got Clapton, The Eagles, and Pantera on there.  I'd say those three, at the very least, qualify as music.

However, Matt is right, 50 Cent and any of his affiliations can go.  Replace that Crap with some Creedence.
Watch, I just killed this topic...

Thanks for all of the suggestions everyone. I know of, and like, actually most of both R4L and evenwolfs artists, but I can't remember everything! ;D Thanks for reminding me!

I haven't heard of Angra, but I'll try to find some music. But Symphony X is probably my favourite band of all times! :)

Thank you! :) But I've got room enough for everyone. I like some of their songs, so they can stay!

Thank you, everyone! Please, keep posting.

You *might* enjoy Nightwish.
