Title: What we should do!
Post by: Estaog on Mon 21/06/2004 19:07:45
You know what i think we should do, we make an application thread for people who are interested, and then who signs in will make a room, we join then and wola!We have a game.It will be in a cartoony sort of way and will use different characters. You see the rooms will vary difficulty. So you first start from an easy room, pass it and end in a more difficult room. The rooms will be like Escape From a Small Room 1: The walls are closing in (by leagel_my_deagle).In the end we will make a room with all the characters discussing their progress (you know what they did and stuff, sort of like a party) and you will controll one character, walk him upstairs and go to sleep. Then the credits pop up bla bla bla. So what do you think?

Il simple it down for you:

You create an easy room, i create a medium room and another guy creates a hard room. Now you have to  escape from each one of these and then begin the new room.Every room will have its character, and it will be harder than the last. As for the last part we make like a big hall, full of the characters that took part in the game, and they talk in the background while you control a character and to finish the game you have to go upstairs and sleep (Use the bed). Understand now?

I understand what your saying but I don't really get why you'd want to do it.

Like if I described to you how to skin a cat... You'd know how to, but would you want to?Ã,  :P

I'm thinking that was just an example, but 3 rooms would be over too quickly and conversely, just escaping from room after room would get a bit boring wouldn't it?

I dont agree. We could add music and cartoony characters, jokes and stuff like that, it might turn out good.

This sounds a little bit like something scummbuddy was making at one point. We'd take it in turns to make a room each and join them all together...

Maybe I got the wrong idea...

Tanker, did you mean escaping each room (i.e. the walls closing in thing you said... or maybe get out before a bomb blows or some such event) or did you mean each person making a room with puzzles etc (i.e. not time-limited, so more like a typical room from an adventure game).

I don't think I worded that very well, hope you understand what I mean.

Thants what i mean. And yes i do understand you, barely :P. So who is interested, i was thinking making a 3 room demo first, and if it turns out good we expand it.

Well that sounds like a better idea... a colaborative effort to make a (for want of a better word) normal game is ok.

Commitments to work and college mean I don't have time to make a whole game, but one room I can probably manage...

Make it like a boarding house, you could have a mad scientist live in the basement and use the washer to make fankenkittie and a crazed chef can throw knives at you in the kitchen etc...

I think this idea was flamed for the wrong reasons; it won't fail because the game won't be interesting or the room transitions won't work; it will fail because it's a team project initiated by a newbie, and team projects initiated by newbies generally fail.

I may be a newbie now but one thay il bet better!!! *wakes up from dream*

Thats exactly why i told people to make it a team projet so if i suck (according to you that is) there will be better rooms in the game. And i still say it will be a good idea, lets just make the demo first and see how it turns out.

Sounds to me like Tanker just wants other people to work on something that he will be able to claim his own... after all, thats what you're all about isn't it? :-\

I almost wish there was some kind of law that stopped you from coming up with collaboration projects without making a game of your own first. Still, there are people out there who could pull it off, but it just doesn't fill people with confidence when it's someone relatively unknown doing it. If you're serious about it though, Tanker, do your best ^_^

I'm sorry to be discouraging, but ideas like these 99% of the cases fail. It's not only in AGS, I see this idea everywhere in game making forums yet I don't remember a single time a project like this was completed.

Fuck you asshole!
You keep coming up with these post making remarks about me just because i asked to make a walk cycle. And i am making a game if you would look in the games in production section blind ass!

Ok... Calm down you both!  :D Tanker... No need to sell your idea better, if anyone is interested, he/she will pm you.

And just as a buddy, without intention to enter into the moderator's taks, could you please be more positive Os àšltimo? You're being bitter lately... Just as a gift for your buddy Farl.  ;)

Calm down Tanker, the general feeling is that this would fail... DEAL WITH IT.

Don't start chucking insults around, if you disagree then say so... but without profanity.

Tanker: if you wanna rant at someone, do it in private. There are some people who don't wanna see flames, least of all those containing swearing, on these forums. Either ignore OsUltimo, or go somewhere else to swear at him...

Yes, in fact... come to my boards to do that... that way there won't be anybody deleting or editing my posts. In fact, I encourage anyone who has a problem with me to do so...

i think it could work but it would not last long. you would maybe getn two or three rooms and thats it. RON works because all games are about somehting comletely different even though they are set in the same town. if it was just escape form room after room it would get dull and repetative. there are only so many ways to escape a room before you get to combinig random objects

OK but he really pisses me off sometimes.
Anyways about the project, im postponing it for a while (untill my game is ready and all) so people can see what i can do. And about wanting to get all the credit myself, i was not gonna do that. I was gonna give credit to every sole (if you have one  :P) that helped made the game.Any one who liked the idea can still contact me.

Before locking;
Tanker, there are two ways of preventing people from pissing you off.
1. Ignore their posts
2. Don't give them reasons to rant on you

That's all the options you've got. If you fail, it's your problem, the forum still won't allow swearing and shouting.

Now good luck with finishing your game.
