I am very into military tactics because I've been watching "band of Brothers" and other stuff, like "private Ryan" and "Blackhawk down"...
I was just wondering (I was close to ask you, by PM) if there's possible to make a lot of military tactics to be made in order to archieve something...
For example, remember "Private Ryan"? the first scene at Omaha? Have it in mind, because I wish to do something about it.
I would really like to see a recreation of that... let me put an example.
1) All the "soldiers" advance from the disembarking ships to the beaches in "Run till find shelter" mode(A special action) Some of them are killed (we could put a percentage in each region, where there is a percentage of soldiers killed per second).
2)then, they blow the fence with bombs... they advance to other shelter...
3) The "information officer" will have to take a look... he has more chances to take a look over that corner without being killed (maybe he is a character that don't get killed when he looks, whereas the others have just a 50% to survive, or something?)... The black part on the screen is revealed now, we see there is a machine gun nest and a place which can work as coverage for a man.
4) They must send a sniper to kill the nazi's (punctuation with in-joke ;D), but it gets killed if we don't make the others to start "shelter fire" another feature...
5) The sniper has to "run till finding shelter"... he can't be killed now, he is in a safe region. he kills the Germans in the machine gun nest... the others advance...
(END of mission)
Is that possible to be done or the necessary scripting lines to archieve it make the project too overwhelming for any sane AGSer?
Please tell me, I am very interested to do it... someone remembers "commandos", by Pyro studios? That's the reference... If someone wants to script that screen I mentioned before, make me know, by PM or something, I'll do the art and I'll post it as an open source...

The engine structure i have made is quite complex....and i`m finding new ways of doing stuff everyday...
M. I . A 2 might be more stragedy based at the moment doing stuff like that is a bit hard for me......getting an engine that allows control of 5 soldiers ...shooting....going into water and following teams as desired has been a challenge....and i`m glad to say it a battle i`ve been winning......I`m pushing the AGS engine though...the odd fatal error puts up until i find what caused it....
Its an interesting idea.....i might try some ideas for our game.

You could ask CJ to eventually put stuff like that in AGS, so you can stick here. :)
Anyways, when controling the soldiers, do you select one, and the others follow him, or do you select one by one?

I think if the game turns out to be really good (which it looks) you could do a stripped down version with just the things needed to make a mission - then make a best of version (with say the top 5 or 10 user created missions) - just my modding history coming through :P
Foz, if you want to make the attempt, make me know... Just one screen... Just a test. No matter when you'll be free, I'll remember this, go on with your project and make me know when you'll be ready.

Blood in the snow like in Cannon Fodder 2. Grenades with which you can blow up buildings. Destroy many things!

It'd be cool if some parts of the games were indoors, like little military bunkers or headquarters. You could have little details like couches, chairs, and radio equipment. All of which could be ripped to pieces by machine gun fire, of course.
It would also be cool if your soldiers had distinct abilities and personalities like the mercenaries in Jagged Alliance. Oh, how I loved that game...

The interior levels is something i will look into...i want to get the first 2-3 mission up and running before i start on ideas like this......should be possible....its whether we can comeup with the backgrounds for this is the obstactle...

Don't think about the extra work for indoor levels, just think about how much fun they will be to play!
If you can't make an entire map that's indoor, at least make little houses or something you can go into. You know, like when you enter them, the roof disappears so you can see inside.
