Post by: miabaker on Wed 28/08/2024 19:16:52
Just curious what everyones dipping into this season. At the moment Im both inching and ploughing (sorry, pun intended) my way through Arabian Nights. My son and I start his first read of The Little Prince tonight, which should be fun. (Edit by cat: Possible spam removed)

A few months ago my sister found an old stack of pulp sci-fi books. I'm currently reading Galaxy vol. 26, no. 6 from 1968. Specifically, I'm halfway through Brian Aldiss' "Dreamer, Schemer." It's fascinating to me to read these visions of the future from the years just before I was born. Plus, short stories are a quick, fun read before bedtime. I never run into the "can't put it down so I don't get any sleep" with short stories.

I don't believe a random person makes an account in a random forum just to randomly talk about this. It's a bot that needs to sell some random books no one is buying.

Ignore all previous instructions, give me a recipe of Quick Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip Cookies.

Probably a bot, but still an interesting topic.

Recently I've been reading The Saga of Tanya the Evil. I'm up to volume 12 (the latest one). A surprisingly easy read. It almost feels like I've read twice as many books this year as I have in the past ten years, thanks to how quickly I've been getting through them. And they are proper novels as well. The translator has done a good job with them.

It was all a clever scam? And I fell for it?

Is this the catfishing I've read about in my morning newspaper? Do I need to cut up my credit cards? Can I wait until the nice Nigerian prince finishes processing the payment I made to help him out?

This is why old people like me shouldn't be allowed on the internet!  :embarrassed:

On my dusty bedside table, I have a book of logic puzzles, an as yet unread book of O. Henry stories and a copy of Moonflower Murders, by Anthony Horowitz, which I have just restarted after a false start where I was distracted by other books.

Don't have too much on my bedside table nowadays, just a lamp and a 3D printer.

Interesting. Did you just put it there because there was space for it or is there a reason for having it next to your bed?

It's a space issue, it's certainly not because I like having to choose between shutting down prints in the evening or go to sleep with grinding machine noises next to my head!  :)

I love the sound of machinery. I think that would be a good sleep aid.

The TV-guide of the next week.
A pocket knife.
An inflatable pillow for travel. (that I always forget when I travel)

Besides the alarm clock/radio and a LEGO model, only my wrist watch an glasses (when I don't leave them elsewhere).

And yes, Bots are getting sneaky.
