I have been trying out different engines for games lately. So far AGS is the best, but I want to try to make an RPG. So, where could I download RPG maker 2000?
I know at least two good German sites, but I gess they're of little use for you. Anyway, I did some googling and found this:
http://www.dark-dominion.com/downloads/#Rpg%20Maker%202000 (http://www.dark-dominion.com/downloads/#Rpg%20Maker%202000)
Hope it helps. Good luck!
Thank you, this is most helpful.
You'll find me on there somewhere, I just joined a while ago.
I know tons of sites. I know that Ascii stopped the last version, but 2003 is about to come out. I got it from http://www.phantomrpg.com/ I haven't been to the site for about 6 months though so I don't know if they took it down or not. It really is a good program. I am making 2 games with it right now.

Much as that frightening example of language deficiency makes me want to sigh, RPGMaker 2000 does indeed sux0r. Yes.
The games are huge, requiring a resource pack when you distribute them. This, and the fact that the program itself is stolen and the community around it thrives on ripped off graphics. Try VERGE (www.verge-net.com). It's harder to master but is wildly more powerful, has a C-style scripting language and isn't crap.
Fuck SSH, I actually looked at this post the other day, but to bring it back from like page 60, come on, I know there's so much crap lately but so was this
Don't listen to me I'm drunk
RPG Maker isn't really a good idea if you want to make an RPG, first of all (no matter what language you speak) the translation from Japanese was shoddy, so there are glitches and bugs in the programming. RPG Maker is pretty easy to use, but it doesn't make up for how piss-poor it works. Not to mention the company that made the program is talking "lawsuit" for it being illegally translated and distributed for free.
I say, if you want to make an RPG, go with RPG Toolkit (http://www.rpgtoolkit.com). It's fairly easy to use, it's not full of bugs, and it's got features that RM2K doesn't.
There is also a DOS based rpg making program called the O.H.R.RPG.C.E (Official Hamster Republic Role Playing Game Creation Engine) which you can download here: http://www.hamsterrepublic.com/ohrrpgce (http://www.hamsterrepublic.com/ohrrpgce) It's pretty good [edit] and it actually works with XP :) but the music doesn't work with some sound cards :([/edit]
