Where Have You Been? The TerranRich Story

Wow! Damn, I've been busy as hell! And I know what you are all asking yourselves...

What the f*** happened to you, Rich? Where have you been? You're still ALIVE???

Well, school took up a huge portion of my time for quite a while. Studying, tests, finals, quizzes, all that. I'm finally done with school as of Friday and will have my Associates' Degree in Web Design. A few weeks ago one of my instructors came up to me and asked "How would you like a job?" I just looked at him and said "Yeah, sure!" He got me in contact with a guy from http://www.parsonskellogg.com and I sent him my resume.

This was only one day after another instructor offered to subcontract some web design jobs to me for a nice sum of money per job. I met with him and at first he said he's pay me $1,000 for my part in the job. That's only for about 2 weeks' worth of work and it's not even hard work. Just the other day he calls me up and says that he's approved an increase from $1,000 to $2,000 for my part in the job and it will now include a very basic e-commerce section.

As for the fulltime job, I went for the interview and it looked very promising. He said he just had to interview a few other people and he'd get back to me the next Friday. Well, Friday came and there was no call. By this point I just wanted OUT of the Home Depot. That placce is an utter hellhole and I just wanted to leave that godforsaken place. Moday comes and I decided to call him up and ask him if he made a decision yet. He was busy and his secretary said he'd call me back in half an hour. An hour goes by and he calls me back and asks me, "So, are you interested in the position?" I said sure and he said that instead of the $15/hr we agreed upon during the interview, it was down to $14 an hour. I went from making $9.70 an hour at the Home Depot for backbreaking labor and dealing with the rudest customers in the country, to making $14 an hour doing Photoshop work, Illustrator work, page layout and design, web design...all the things I love to do.

And get this...there is beer stocked in the break room fridge, seeing as how it's a very casual office atmosphere. Guys were walking around in sandals or even barefoot on the nicely carpeted floor. With me as a new hire, there are probably 12-15 people working there now. ;D

As for the web design side-job, I get a check for $500 under the table, which means I don't have to claim it on my taxes and pay anything for it. Then, at certain predetermined milestones, I get more checks for $500. But basically I don't start any work on it until I get my first $500. (With it I am buying a Gamecube and the two wrestling video games released on it. ;) )

So yeah, life is going pretty damn good, but the hectic-ness isn't over yet. I should be getting the check for $500 sometime this week, maybe even tomorrow, which means I'll have to start working on it. I've also been very busy with another web site project of mine, a wrestling themes web site called Xylot Themes. It's down right now, but will hopefully be up soon.

So basically, I'm saying this: I won't be around here as often as I used to be. Sure, I'll pop in from time to time on Gen-Gen, but I have no time for AGS anymore. :( I'm sorry. This also means that By The Sword is dead for now. LGM was supposed to help me with the story so I could work on it once more, but he's been busy and so have I. I might...MIGHT...be willing to give the reins to someone else and let them work on it, but I don't know if I could trust anybody with that. It was my dream to make BTS, for years now...I can't just give it away to somebody and risk the chance that they might fudge it up to the point where I will hate it.

I will PM CJ regarding this, but I will soon no longer be a mod on the Beginners' Tech Forum. I will definitely hand off the BFAQ to somebody else, mostly Scummbuddy if he wants it, but for no I won't have any time for AGS. Like I said, I'll still be visiting from time to time, mainly in the General Discussion Forum, but that's pretty much about it. I'm not keeping up to speed with AGS and I'm way behind and have little to no time to brush on my AGS, especially since I won't be using it.

This isn't so long. This is more like...I'm back, but only sporadically. ;)

Congrats on the job.
But don't think you don't need us anymore!
You'll be back, when you tire of only doing work to order.

Hehe yes, when I first got a full-time job I thought I'd never have time for AGS any more ... and yet here we are. Also, although having a second job on the side may seem great, it's likely you'll find sooner or later that after working a hard day at the office the last thing you want to do in the evening is sit down and do even more work, albeit freelance  ;)

Anyway, thanks for all your efforts moderating the beginner's tech forum; if you're sure that you no longer want to do it, do say so and I'll find a replacement.

Scummbuddy

I can take the BFAQ, no problem. Sorry you feel that won't have as much time, but perhaps you are moving on to bigger things. Congrats on everything.

I'll just have to be the 'bad cop' in the beg. forum from now on.  ;)
- Oh great, I'm stuck in colonial times, tentacles are taking over the world, and now the toilets backing up.
- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.

Pumaman: While I understand where you're getting at, here's what I do basically: I work at a fulltime job doing web design, I will be working on a sidejob doing web design, and I do web design for my own leisure in my spare time. I can never burn out from this stuff. I just can't get enough.

I think I'm addicted to web design!! :o

But yes, CJ, I'm giving you the word. I won't have time to mod the BT forums anymore, nor do I have the time (nor the desire, to tell the truth) to work with AGS...for now. Maybe someday in the future I'll want to be a part of it all. But for now, I'll just hang around General and maybe even Adventure Talk and Chat once in a while. :)

Phew, I was expecting another ten page story about you sleeping with another woman.

Squinky

Congratulations man, glad to hear things are working out good for you.

Visti

Man, it's just not right to check out for that long!
