Title: Where to host?
Post by: jrp on Sat 17/02/2007 04:59:16
OK. Maybe this is not the best forum for this, but I just realized Justadventure had deleted my game files. So, now I'm looking for a reliable place to host them, and was wondering which was the best (to do it for free, of course).

Thanks. That is a good place to start looking. The thing I found is that most of those places have trouble with files larger than 1MB or so. Some let you upload them, but give very bad download results; most of the time, the download is faulty.

Does anyone know of one that has given you good results?

I'm not looking for a place to host pages, per-se, but mainlay to host the zip files of my games. (go from 2 to 11MB)

Thanks

this searcher is also good:

http://www.freewebspace.net/

it appears that many sites give you over 1GB of webspace and 100GB data traffic. You can host your game there and you can have your site there at the same time.

This is the host I'm using atm for a site of mine:

http://www.110mb.com

Good luck!

Ok, some notes from my own experience:

110mb.com
Files up to 10MB, plus very nice hosting (PHP+MySQL and almost no ads), the only thing with it is that sometimes it's dead as, er, very dead thing. Probably not as frequent now as it used to be, tho.

http://fileupyours.com
Up to 100MB per file, files never expire, but requires one to register and log in to the site once in a while.

http://www.hyperupload.com/
File-hosting, up to 10MB, but files are never deleted (unless they violate their TOS).

sendspace.com
Up to 300MB, 30 days expiration period. More if you pay them (a.k.a. Sendspace max).

What is the average size of an AGS game and all the gumph?... zipped and unzipped.
How many average games could you host for 100MBs?

Most are small, no more than five, but one is 11MB.
