Well...as you know I am back in the AGS community & ready to rock...but now..I have come up with many clever titles but it is hard for me to choose which one will be made first because they are all good. So, please look through these titles & tell me in your reply, one of the titles listed & why it should be made.
**********************************
Gunsmoke
Seinfeld
Back to the Future: Part 4
Family Matters
Thundercats
Inspector Gadget: The Search for Penny
Teddy Ruxpin
3rd Rock from the Sun
Doug
Kenan and Kel
***********************************
Please choose one & tell me why it should be made!
Thank you for your cooperation!
I choose none and suggest you come up with an original idea of your own. Those are all copyrighted names, and most of them would make lousy games anyways. The best AGS games have been original stories, with the exception of a few that had an experienced team of people working on them, which you don't. Even if you could come up with a ripoff of one of those, it would be better than using the original.
I agree. Come up with an original idea and make an amazing game to wow us with. That's a much better idea than a Kenan and Kel game. Plus, this way you won't get sued.
Uhhh...some people have made Simpsons & Indiana Jones games & they HAVE NOT been sued. So, think for a minute...I don't think it is gonna hurt to make a Teddy Ruxpin game to honor the once coolest TV show for little kids...or a Seinfeld game in tribute to the best TV show ever made...or a Thundercats game...but since you think of copyright issues without thinking about people who HAVE made games about characters that were copyrighted, then you obviously are sticking up for them.
My list:
1. Doug
Why:
Because it is a very good title.
Why it should be made:
A game with such a title have good chances of becoming a very good game.
They're picking on you, because they're all part of a great conspiracy. Ever wondered why the dollar bill has a pyramid with an eye on it?
As for me, I'd give you my advice; unfortunately, none of the titles say anything to me apart from Inspector Gadget and Back To The Future. Of the two, I favour Gadget, because it had a great tune and the topic of time-travel is for wimps.
EDIT (OT): Hey, Andail, we're so close to each other in this thread! Together again! I give you a brotherly (poisoned) punch.

Well...once again we have to look at COPYRIGHTED BULLCRAP, because Doug is the loveable TV teenager who IS in love with Patty Mayonasse. Other characters include Skeeter Valentine, Roger Klautz, Beebe Bluff, & many more!
Now, I honestly believe that this would be complete ownage if I could only make this game, but sadly I cannot because it is COPYRIGHTED!!!!!
I say go with Teddy Ruxpin because I don't believe you are a real person.
Rodekill, nah you're probably right.
The only problem I have with that is that making the impression of being a silly n00b has been done to death already, and to point at somebody afterwards and say "gosh I really got you didn't I, look how stupidly you all reacted to my posts" must be the lowest form of entertaining so far.
Therefore I really hope it's not a hoax, or that the impersonator just quietly goes away and spare us all of that tada-moment.
btw if you're making a fan game, aslong as it has no intention to make profit then they cant sue you. Why do you think all these people who make MI fan games dont get sued.

-a chicken
I hardly think that whoever owns Doug, (which I thought was taken off the air when they sold it to Disney or whatver when i was 11), is really going to care too much about a little amutuer adventure gamer making a freeware game about them. We've had people do MI fangames, Zak Fangames, and make enough pop culture references to fill a large book...no lawsuits.
that being said...dont do a game based on a tv show. Invent your idea. its more fun that way
Teddy Ruxpin?
This list of games proves to me that you are either not real, or you are at least mildly retarded.
Either way, I can't judge you , as I, myself, am a non-real-mildly retarded individual myself. That, and I'm a nympho....
So, I say goes with family matters...
I say you call it "Oldman's Quest", regardless of what it's about.
Yes.
I doubt you would get sued but don't forget:
YOU ARE NOT A PROFFESIONAL!
I do not mean this as an insult, but as a statement.
Don't take it the wrong way; it's a blessing.
Now, many creative have been subject to their dreams being crushed by big companies who won't let them be imaginative because thinking isn't cost effective.
Now, here's us. The indy scene. We make games that we want and how we want AND WE ARE NOT LIMITED BY ANYBODY.
If you use someone elses idea you lose alot of that freedom. You have to stick within someone elses rules and make sure you don't upset any fans. Which you undoubtably will.
So, change some names, come up with an original plot. Be inspired but at the end of the day do YOUR game. Not someone else's.
...
What was the point of me typing all this out for someone who probably won't listen?...
Hmmmmn...
Ha ha ha! PhilRoberts, you are funny!!!
I think you should do that Family Matters game! It would be completely awesome! And your sense of humour would surely make it the blockbuster game of the year!!!
Oh man! I can't wait!!!
You inspired me Eggie.
But I just wanted to point out that I already have dibs on the teddy ruxpin game. And don't you go stealing my idea for the Punky Brewster game either...
Yufster, honey, please shut up.
Hear hear!
but phil:
"Torin's Passage 2 won't happen because of copyright issues."
you wrote that yourself so you are also worried about copyright issues so what's the difference? if you make an Inspector Gadget game or a Torin's Passage game you're still using copyrighted characters...
and please, can people try calming down a little, i don't want to have to delete more posts
Well, if you aren't worried about breaking the law, then refer to point #2:
QuoteThe best AGS games have been original stories, with the exception of a few that had an experienced team of people working on them, which you don't. Even if you could come up with a ripoff of one of those, it would be better than using the original.
Or just completely ignore it again, you know, whatever floats your boat. I think a Doug game would be cool, like the Simpsons game, but statistically if you make a Doug game it would probably look terrible because most new people who come here don't have the graphic art skills that are required to make something proffessional look NOT terrible. If you made your own storyline with your own characters there wouldn't be anything professional to compare it to, therefore it wouldn't seem as crappy. If you prove me wrong by showing that you are capable of drawing those kinds of proffessional graphics, then nevermind.
FINE ! FINE! I wanted to make a game that people would enjoy...but seeing as I can't because of copyrighted issues, then I will think of MY OWN creation...but let me remind you that it will NOT be an easy task!
Calm down a little Phil, it's ok. We all know how hard it is to create our own stories.
That's what the forums are for. You asked our opinion and we gave it, there's no need to get angry over it unless something about what was said really upset you that much.
Poke around the forums and ask for help when needed and it'll be an easier task than not having anyone to talk to at all.
eric
We know it's not an easy task. Most people here are struggling to make original games. But to quote Tom Hanks: "Of course it's hard. If it wasn't hard, then everyone would do it. It's the hard that makes it great."
Of course, he was talking about professional baseball in "A League of Their Own," but the point is still valid.
I think you should make a game based on "A league of their own"
Just make sure theres ninjas and pirates somewhere...
Honestly, none of those titles are quite as good as "Microleague Wrestling".
It will feature Mr P. who takes his team of mercenaries to visit Mr Rogersons and force him to pay for protection. Mr Rogersons tries to shoot them all down, then quickly changes shoes before diving into an imaginary universe where a trolly is the only form of transportation and the king is KING FLAMING GAY. Michael Keaton will make a cameo, not as Batman- but as a behind the scene employee of Mr Rogerson who gives him the finger amidst the gunfight and walk off set to find a job on a sitcom or soap opera. He then falls in love with Lou Diamond Philips and they make babies... into pies. Apple.
Now that game was classic... wish I still had it. >:(
But reading Phils post, I'm not really surprised about his return and now his asking about "names" for a game he wants to make... :-\
QuoteFINE ! FINE! I wanted to make a game that people would enjoy...but seeing as I can't because of copyrighted issues, then I will think of MY OWN creation...but let me remind you that it will NOT be an easy task!
Hmm.. breaking that down, you think people won't enjoy a game not based on already existing copyrights, hence, "wanted to make a game people would enjoy...but seeing as I can't because of copyrighted issues..." Dude, if games based on pre-existing copyrights were the only games people enjoyed, then 98% of games wouldn't exist. Making a game is still hard even when you rip graphics, so don't complain that it isn't an easy task. You're writing to people who have already made games for fucks sake. Why even gripe about it? If that's the kind of dedication you have, give up now, and it'll save you the wasted half-hour you spend on your game before giving up later. Plus, once again, copyright issues aren't the only reason to use your own ideas.
I try not to flame you, then you go and make me do it anyway. Why can't you say something that doesn't make me want to hit you and mess up your pretty face?

Where the crap did you get that pic at?
Why do you always gotta make me hit you, baby?!

Don't you remember me sweetheart? :-*
We could have been together...
edit: Sorry, i didn't see yours when I posted.
I'm all for totally original ideas. But yes, they are more work.
But no matter how you look at it, making a game is making a game and it's tough work. You just gotta hack it out, so I'd suggest picking the game YOU'D like to see get made. Come up with an original plot that excites you and then if you're inspired by it, you can make it work.
Come here for ideas, they say "think of your own." Think of one on your own, a lawyer will lay the smackdown on you. What do you do? Go back in time and prevent the person who thought of the one you did, and kill him. That way, it never existed, and your are free to use it.
Uhhhh...no I don't remember you. Sorry...my mind has drawn a blank.
Hmmm... I was always a fan of Third Rock from the Sun. That might be a cool idea. And I was a fan of the Thundercats when I was little... that might be cool to see too.
Seinfeld, on the other hand, probably wouldn't be a good idea. I kinda like Seinfeld, but it seems as though others on this forum aren't as fond of Seinfeld. Even though it would be interesting.
What the crap do you need my opinion for Phil?? Just think of something, make it, and give us the link to the game. What do you care about whether we like it, or not??? There will always be people that don't like it. For example Flashbax, one of the most loved and hated games...( I LOVE IT ;D) and "foz" just made the game, without crappy threads asking about WHAT SHOULD I DO??? I tell you, if you can't come up with something better than a tv-show idea then you can better not start working on any game.
I'm not saying im doing everything good, (actually when do i do anything good??), but I did learn my lesson, that game-developing requires alot of effort. I can also just make in 3 minutes a list of cool titles... look at this :
Hey guys wich one should I make?
The hairy fuzzball and the cube adventure 2004
Time4Whine
Why am I who I am?
Mirror Mirror : Part 0 - Quest for The Mirror
UFO Freaks
Where should I leave my dipers? Part 2
Kalabamatoektoek Island
DrunkenFish
Little Large Adventure
ohw wait, crap... im already working on 14 games, and cancelled over 20....*sigh*

lol, I want that to be my signature!!!!
To answer the original question...
I'm not sure if PR04 will be up to it, but if someone uses the TCPIP plugin and makes an AGS Spy vs Spy clone (lets call it Agent versus Agent for copyright reasons) then that would be teh cool.
I say do either a "24" Game, a Transformers game, A Star Wars game, or a Terminator game.
Those are my choices.
Oh wait, theres also a possiblity to do the old C64 game "Murder on the Mississipi". I always wanted that redone.
JD
One more... Perhaps even a smallville game?
