Oh, yay- Listmaking!

- Halloween
The original is probably my favourite horror movie ever. I don't know why, but it is one of the few films that actually keeps scaring me every time I see it. The music is top notch, and the simplicity of effects desn't bring it down to a cheesy b-film status, but instead increases the scare, in my opinion...

- Psycho
I could watch this one just for the soundtrack. I got more scared by the title-sequence than I get out of most other horror movies on the whole.

- TCM
Yeah, it's on my list as well. I really like films that concentrate on showing us less gore and more suspense. In other words: It gave me a good scare. :)

- Night of the Living Dead
My favourite in the "Dead"-triology, and not only because it is b/w...
"Dawn" and "Day" was just as scary, ("Day" perhaps the most unsettling and apocalyptic of them all, methinks...) but the original just has that little extra...

- Evil Dead
Just plain ol' scary enough to scare the shit out of me...
A good combination of extreme gore and suspense.

I will agree with Evil Dead 2, the Thing and Romero's DEADs.

The japanese Ring was VERY creepy indeed, but I enjoyed the american version better. It seemed to me it had a more consistent scenario.

PS. Did anyone liked DONNIE DARKO? One of my favorites!

I liked it, but it's not a horror movie.
You. Me. Denny's.

The Grudge was mentioned earlier and I'd have to agree with that. I've only seen Ju-On: The Grudge (the third in the series...its the one being remade) but its the scariest movie I've ever seen. For anyone not in the know, its kinda like Ringu. This guy murders his family in a house, which causes a Ju-On (a deadly curse) to be placed upon the house. So basically, if you step into the house, ghosts will come get you, and there's no way to stop it. The movie follows six people and their stories with the house (the stories are mostly related to each other). One of the scariest things about the movie is that there's just no way to stop the ghosts from killing you, unlike Ringu where there was a loophole. The ghosts are uber-creepy too (one ghost is of a little boy who meows like a cat, another ghost is a shadow-like entity, but the scariest ghost is a chick that's a mix between the girl off The Exorcist and the girl off Ringu). One part really stands out to me as being the scariest scene in a movie ever.

*SPOILERS*

One chick who went in the house comes home from a pretty tough day at work (aka being stalked by ghosts and witnessing a security guard get killed by one). She lays down in her bed under her blankets and turns on the TV. Its a seemingly normal show about birds or something, but then all of a sudden the TV starts screwing up. The sound warps and makes a creepy noise and the image of the chick on the TV gets all distorted (doesn't sound scary, but the distorted image and the sound definately creeps you out). After alot of fumbling, the girl turns off the TV. She's freaked out to hell and pulls the blanket over her head. Cut to a shot of the bed and you see something rise up underneath the blanket. The girl pulls her head out and looks underneath the blanket and, whaddya know, the one creepy ghost is in there with her. She screams and she's pulled underneath the blanket, which then falls flat on the bed like nobody was there in the first place.

*END SPOILERS*

The only thing this movie is missing is an actual plot. I'm hoping the remake decides to throw one in to satisfy audiences. Its by the same director so it should still have the same creepiness. My only worry is that it's gonna be the exact same as the Japanese version, just different actors (if you watch the trailer for the remake, you'll recognize a LOT of stuff).
