how the heck do i uninstall windows xp ???
Not sure exactly but I'm assuming you want to install another operating system over the top of it.
It maybe possible to insert an older version of windows in your cd drive, it may then come up with a message about it being an older version of windows and is not recommended, but I'm not sure, I've never tried it, so it might work that way.
I've only just started using XP professional, I haven't had any problems with it, and I've figured out how to run all my old games with it, so so far I haven't had a problem. I've heard windows 2000 is the best one so far but I don't know for what reasons, maybe I'll find out later, but XP is much better than 98 (as far as crashing goes).
what is it that sux about it, I'm interested in peoples opinions about it
i used the sucks balls thing to get peoples attention ;)
otherwise i want to install win 95 over it *don't ask why :P)
i just don't know how to uninstall the darn thing!! ???
What happens when you insert the win95 disk while xp is loaded?
does it give you an option to install it?
if not, it's possible maybe, to set up your BIOS and change the boot order so it boots from CD-ROM 1st, and maybe it will install over it, but I'm no expert in the matter, so It may screw up what's already there.
If you don't need what's on the machine currently or have backed up what you need on other drives or cd's, then you can format your drive and start win95 from scratch. But you may need a boot disk to start up DOS to format. Otherwise you could probably boot from the win95 cd.
So if you are prepared to experiment you can try these things, but having backups is definately necessary. Other people may have had experience in trying this so you may want to wait for someone else for other solutions, or you could probably search google for a possible solution.
I don't want to be responsible for screwing up your computer
Yeah, you can't uninstall windows as such - you just need to make sure you've backed up any important data, then format the windows drive. Then, you can boot off the windows install CD to install the new one instead.
format c:
And don't forget to make a boot disk (if you don't have your original Windows 95 boot floppy around). Windows 95 CD is not bootable.
Install 98 or something, then go into 98, and delete the other windows folder.
Then boot from dos, and install 98 again.
You could dual boot by defragging, then running fdisk in DOS.. Or "acquiring" Powerquest's Partition Magic 8.
Or if you just don't want XP at all (Which is a stupid mistake if it's by choice) you can go into fdisk and just reformat your HD.. or put in the XP install disk and install a new copy by reformat, and then quit the installation right after the format quits, then go ahead and install 95.
Anyways.. It's really tough installing older Microsoft OS's over Newer because Microsoft is always "NEEEWWWER IS BETTER!", which isn't always good.. But with XP, it IS better :-p..
heh.. Anyways, my XP fanboy rage is now completely over (See Jimi's post for explanation)
Peace
My preferred way of uninstalling Windows is with an axe.
Failing that, you could try the ole electromagnet-to-the-hdd trick.
