Not really sure who to ask directly about this but if anyone knows, with ecommerce and online shops, what feature should I be looking for if you plan to distribute an exe/zip file to customers as some commercial developers do? I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking for in a package but I'm pretty sure I haven't seen this capability included in any of them yet. Any hints, websites etc would be useful :)

I'm afraid I'm not too familiar with any links/sites that offer this kind of service but I have built one or two eCommerce sites that offer electronic download.

I'd wager what you want to look for is something that offers "electronic download" or something like that.  The sites I've built, when a person pays, they get an email with a "download link" that they can then click on to retrieve the digital file.  I make it known that they can freely share that link with family/friends and don't limit the number of times they can download (I don't waste time and/or money on copy-protection) it but I'm sure this is an option with some pre-built eCommerce solutions of this type to prevent multiple downloads/sharing.

Good luck!

I use CubeCart v3, which can do digital downloads.

Many thanks, I'll have a look at CubeCart! The fact v3 is free is good. Thanks for the link, and thanks for the info Darth! :)

And you should be able to set it to only allow a certain amount of downloads..

Oh my word, did you manually set up a MySQL database Greg? And if so how many light-years did that take you??

Edit: Hooray! Ignore! Delete! I got it working, all thanks to AGA.

Wait, did I just thank AGA? :O

Cheers Berian
