Hi, I moved some time ago to a new city. So cofiguring my internet I started thinking that there might be a w-lan somewhere in the neighbourhood unguarded when in my last apartment there was none, so I mistakenly installed my D-Link USB wireless thingie. Couldn't find any, but now my computer keeps beeping on startup with this message:

QuoteThe procedure enry point apsInitialize could not be located in the dynamic link library wlanapi.dll

I had this before in my old apartment but was able to fix it, or push it aside, but I can't remember how I did it. It doesn't seem serious, but it's really loud and annoying, the beep everytime I start up my computer.

I've googled it a lot, and it seems, that the problem is with XP SP3 having an updated wlanapi.dll, while the D-Link still uses the old one. So I'd have to find a system restore point months back or get an update. I tried updating the D-Link driver, and I tried installing an SP3 version of the dll and also a SP2 version of the dll. microsoft.com seems to have a lot of information about the same problem with Vista, but Iäve had no help there either. I'd just like to get the problem gone, seeing as even uninstalling the D-link program+driver didn't take the beeping away. Anybody have any more suggestions?

Did you try Startup Control Panel?  It gives you a list of things running at startup, and you can disable them....maybe the beeping thing there can be disabled?? Otherwise I don't know.

Oh yeah, and I already did that with no success, so. :(

Basically the items run at startup are listed as

QuoteTabUserW.exe
ANIWZCS2Service
AVG8_TRAY
Cmaudio
SunJavaUpdateSched
ZoneAlarmClient
CTFMON.exe
MsnMsgr
Rainlendar2
Afaik, that's, in order of appearance: My Wacom tablet, something required by Windows, AVG8, C-Media audio (not quite sure what this is), Java updater, firewall, some MSOffice thing? WINDOWS/system32/ctfmon.exe, and then msn and rainlendar.

Maybe there is a specific wireless service that is trying to run with an automatic at startup configuration in Services that you could set to disabled instead?  I'm really just guessing.

Also from what I saw here, this is from someone who also owns a D-Link and has this problem:

"I found a work around solution to the poblem. I deleted LAUNCHER files
WZCSLDR2.exe from the program\ANI\ANIWZCS2 SERVICE and AirGCFG.exe
Program\D-Link\AirPlus G and the startup problem is solved. The D-link
adapter still works perfectly."

So you may want to see if there's an AniWZCS2 or something service running?  I'm not sure what else to try, but find out the model of your D-Link and see if there others using the same model posting a solution.
