Title: Woo... 18.
Post by: Akatosh on Mon 10/11/2008 11:31:12
So I'm legally an adult now. About time, too. Liqour hellholes, cheap hookers and seedy casinos, here I come!

Liquor and casinos aren't worth it, man!

Hookers... well, a guy has to have some fun, I guess!

As someone who has done the 18 thing, allow me to give piece of advice: It kicks ass!

;D

Second piece of advice: Get some I.D! You don't just instantly look older now! I get people who come into my shop to buy an 18 rated game and act surprised that I'm asking for I.D since they turned 18 last week, and  clearly look like an adult now.

Happy birthday fella. I didn't realise you were so young.
I'm 25 and I only went to my first casino about 6 weeks ago... and I've yet to sample the delights of a STD-ridden crack-whore, but I'm sure when the time comes the warts will more than make up for the rashes.

When I was under 18 game shops were so much moe relaxed about selling 18-rated games to minors... my mate bought Grand Theft Auto with no problems... but it was his dad that made him take it back and own up to being underage... hahahaha... unlucky.

Holy crap I'm older than you?! I've been 18 since Jan...
Not to mention that I went into my first casino when I was 7, and I'm Mormon!!

Stupot, in leicester, a fair few years back, this videogame shop manager actually got fined over a grand for mistakenly selling an 18 rated game to someone under 18.

So I have to be very careful!

So getting ripped off in seedy casinos isn't actually an integral part of adulthood? Aww, poo. Anyway, thanks, I'm having a nice birthday so far.  ;)

Don't worry, I've had some I.D. since I turned 16. A lot of places are really strict in terms of age restrictions over here, so you more or less have to get it as soon as possible.

I vaguely remember turning 18 ...

The very next year they introduced this new invention called the Wheel!!!

Anyway ... happy birthday!

Two Pieces of Advice from the Wise and Elderly Darth:
1) Just remember ... now when you beat up the hookers you can go to jail for it.  You are, after all, an adult.
2) Being an adult doesn't automatically make you man.  That you must earn.

I have spoken ;)

Happy B-day.

Well, I can't really remember my 18th either. I didn't have a party or something and I didn't do anything afterwards that I haven't done before (I'm not a fan of casinos).

Reagarding the ID-Thingy:

A few month ago I was asked for my ID when buying some BEER. I did that with 14, it's legal with 16 and I'm 24. Well, that woman was quite surprised when looking at my ID, but, well, I guess she was just being careful..

Welcome to the first day of the rest of your life.

Soon you're gonna start the REAL life. You know, the part with responsbility, the one where you have to earn money for a living, do stuff you don't wanna do, basically the part of life that is crappy. Wave those years of irresponsibile no worry childhood goodbye!!

Also being able to drink legally... *ahem*  ::)   is great. I'm sure you haven't drank, smoked a cigarette or had sex before.  :=

At this point masturbating starts getting frustrating when before it was exciting, and it's all downhill from there. Happy birfday!

In case you've got a drivers license, it's probably the last chance to get drunk in the next few month. Because now you're cursed to drive all your friends who got 18 before and had to drive you ;D
Happy B-Day!

And since you're now credit-worthy, gambling might be good idea :)

I was not aware of the fact that when entering a brothel they actually ask for your ID. Do they really? Other than that, my only advice is: Vote the crap out of them!

Happy Birthday, man!

It kills me that just about every other country you only have to be 18 to buy booze. In America it's 21, not that I'm complaining now. But I had to wait so long to buy my own booze.

Happy B-Day man!

I'm 18 since the 6th of October, so we're pretty much peers.
Actually, I see absolutely no change when being an adult.
I didn't buy/do things that are against the law when you're U/18, so things are still the same, no change.
As for the IDs, we have to get IDs when 15, so there is no big "ID change" when you are an adult. Conclusion = no change. Well...maybe one. I'm going to have my driving license done before christmas.

18's a good age to be. In my country I'm legally an adult and can do anything and everything by myself.

I finish school forever in a few weeks, so I feel your excitement :D Can't wait for finals to be over, I'm going to party like a rockstar.

That reminds me, I should get back to studying now ... :/

It's really nothing special. Just an average day apart from every person you really don't care for talking to you and the people who'd maybe count having forgotten. So move a long, stuff will come to you, you don't have to go find it right now.

Well, you know, as soon as you reach 18 and it becomes legal, there's no fun in getting drunk any more. You have to move on to harder stuff like Crack and Heroin.

Don't worry, you can legally drink (wussy) beer in Germany at the tender age of 16. Must be a tradition thing. Anything else is at 18, though. And Heroin is a tad expensive right now, so I'll have to stick with the occasional beer.  :=

Still, Me Go Pub is up as soon as I can locate enough of my peers to make the celebration worthwhile. Still, Me Go Brothel, Me Go Bankrupt In Run-Down Casio and Me Go Throwing Up In Back Alley And Subsequently Beaten Unconscious By Gang Of Thugs will have to wait a tad.  ;)

Don't want to turn this thread into a stupid political/religous/alcoholic debate, but it's interesting that (in the USA) driving fast hunks of metal becomes legal at 16, voting and deciding the future at 18, drinking alchohol at 21, and renting a car at 25.

But the brain doesn't fully mature until 25, but some fairly life-changing decisions/habits are made before that.

PS-Are those titles for games or documentaries? Or perhaps just a camcorder duct-taped to the top of your head? :D

But boy, am I happy to have grown since then...

Yeh and it makes me laugh (in England at least) that at 16 you can join the Army and go off and die for your country... but you have to wait until you're 18 before you can vote for the man who ultimately is the one who decides whether or not you are going to war  :-\ ... oh well.

Man, I'd forgotten that I was your elder by those essential two days. And I agree, somehow I can't accept that someone who was born in the 1990s can now be an adult...

I think this means that we're now officially too old to try and crash freshers party nights at universities, as we are obviously so old and mature that we couldn't pass for niave teenagers any more.

QuoteBut boy, am I happy to have grown since then...

I'd like to claim the same, but never mind...

As a highly wisened and experienced fellow who is an entire two years your senior, the most important advice that I can give you is that credit card debt is society's way of stopping complete morons from having too much control in the world. Credit cards are for convenience; if you can't pay it off the instant you get home, don't use a credit card to buy it.

Seconded.
And to be honest there are very few things that can be bought on credit card that can't be bought on debit card... porn being the only thing I can think of at the moment... CCs make you look grown-up by the ruin many people's lives.  And the banks will be sending you invitations into debt for the rest of your life, so be vigilant.

I use credit because it's faster than debit in person and because I can't use debit online... I've heard people talk about how it's possible, but it never has been for me. Maybe it's a Canadian thing? That said, I always make sure my balance is 0 at least once a week, and usually every evening that I've used it. Paying interest on a credit card is about the dumbest waste of money I can imagine.

I actually remember that my friends decided to go to a place you can only get admitance if you're over 18.(not a bordel house), so we went a day before i closed my birthday. And they didn't let us in because i was 17.9999. So I said to the guy to the door : "Man, wtf will happen in one day that hasn't happened to me in 17 years?

My brother's debit card is both through his bank (a local Utah one) and Visa, so he uses it online all the time. Accepted wherever Visas are.
