Title: Work boredom
Post by: edmundito on Tue 10/08/2004 22:07:43
Having access to a computer, I feel like checking the AGS Forums, a lot. I really don't want to sometimes, but I feel I have nothing else better to do. They give me an assignment, I do it, but then it's really just wait for a response and nothing happens. I think, "what can I do?" and I really don't know what to do. It feels kind of bad, but what else can I do?

When you're at work and you have abosultely nothing to do or are kind of lost at what you're supposed to be doing, what do you do?

As I don't have internet access at work, boredom usually results in childish pranks such as stealing people's staplers, throwing things at colleagues and using NET SEND to pop up annoying messages on other people's screens.

Haha, NET SEND. We (read: my friends) used to do that in school. Usually when we didn't have a lesson we went to computer class if it was free, i.e. no lesson there. Then someone started using NET SEND and and did silly pranks to other student, for example sending "an error message" to other people's computer and if they didn't know about the whole NET SEND thingy, they were of course confused. Then once one of my friends accidentally send something to teacher during a lesson via NET SEND... teacher didn't fell for that one...

Okay, now that was off-topic. If you have nothing to do at work, plan your game or draw something or something creative!

I made Earwig and Rode Quest 1 and 2 at work.
Seriously.
That job was great and horrible all at the same time and for completely different reasons.

When I'm bored at work I also play childish pranks and sometimes bring my computer and pretend to do homework but really school is over and I'm messing with graphics.

I have one co-worker who abhors cats. I linked an application we use all of the time for our work to a screen saver that had a blown-up picture of a cat with blood on its teeth hissing, and accompanied it with a very loud hissing sound. She almost killed me, but she had to go to the bathroom first. I'm still waiting for the recoil on that one.

Where i work we have Cable internet service and every computer is connected. So most of the time while i am working at my computer, i go online and surf away. I spend most of the time reading the forums here, but try not to get caught. But some people notice i have my internet explorer open, even though i keep it in a small window.

When not too busy, we always seem to have rubber band wars, or throwing peanuts at each other (which happened today).Ã,  But most of the time, we just throw rude comments back and forth at each other and just act out right whacko.Ã,  :)

But when we are really busy, it's all work and some play.

I don't really have this problem at work, because my job is to sit on forums. Really. I get paid to just talk to people on various, random forums as long as they're at least somewhat related to computers, internet and webhosting.  But I can go to any board on a forum that's related to my work, so I can sit in the gaming section of a web host forum and chat with people about whatever. It's pretty cool.

When I was a janitor, with nothing to do.(and my supervisor was somewhere, pretending to work) I would stretch rubber gloves onto my shoes and slide across the newly mopped floors into the automatic sinks.

Um, My works totally different, I cant really do anything different when I'm bored, maybe light up a ciggy.

I walk around streets all day reading water meters, (includes jumping fences, digging in gardens, searching through garden jungles, getting attacked by dogs) If I finish early I just get to go home early without it effecting my pay.

I don't have internet access, but soon we might be updating the current system, so we have a phone that's hooked up to a wap site which instantly uploads the readings to the company. but I really don't think I'd bother using a phone to look on the internet.

At least I don't have to stare at a computer all day, I'm glad I got out of that fuktup world.

I have two jobs.

The first of which I don't get a chance to be bored. Cashier in a supermarket. Never a time when I'm not serving customers.

My other job is with computers - but again, every single minute is spent with customers. I set up new computers for people, and I also train beginners in how to use their computer. And so, since I go to their houses and they pay by the hour... every single minute is spent working with them.

I wouldn't mind a job where I could sit around and surf the net, or work on my game.
