Sooo.... Does anyone play?
We could make a guild and graduate from casual geeks to super nerds!
Nope :) I played it for half an hour, then I got bored with it and went back to game design.
Gee thanks, I'll file that under 'pointless snidey comments'
I didn't think you were the WoW type, Calin. :P
But no, my reaction was about the same as Radiant's.
I'm not a fan of MMOs in general. I've tried out a few, but I guess the genre is just not for me.
I think the longest I've played was a free weekend of City of Villains. :-\
Oh, and Hellgate: London. But that doesn't count.
Actually I'm not a huge WoW fan. (Still haven't reached level 50 after more than a year)
But the lure of MMOs like Eve and WoW is community cooperation which is why I asked if anyone else played.
The endgame of WoW (the huge 40 man raids and stuff) *cannot* be completed without a fair amount of planning and tactics and I enjoy that kind of thing.
The problem with most WoW guilds is that they take it *too* seriously (Letters of application? fuck that plz) so my plan was to form a casual guild with the less crazy people of the AGS forum.
I've played WoW since the wee beginning of it, and I plan to start again once the next expansion hits this december. Always with friends and family, otherwise it'll grow boring and tedious pretty fast. MMO's are social games afterall and not really intended for singleplay.
I confess, I do occasionally play a MMO, hoping to find something a little more socially interactive, but the n00bs are too n00by and the rest are to "n00b!"y, and so I find no-one to explore the world with.

Aw come on, if you ask "do you play X", then you should expect some people to respond "no I don't" ::)
This is the only game I don't play for the reason that I fear it.
I have several friends who play it and I don't like what it has done to them.
A lot of them play it all of the time, and they are quite often busy because of raids. I don't see them at all as often as I used to. And a lot of the time they're playing it, they're not even doing anything :p They just jump around... One friend actually played the game 8 hours a day! And that's when he still was in school!
As much as I like them, I don't want to become them. So I never even tried it.
I must admit I tried a cracked version of it, but I feel it's still legal since I played it less than the 30-day-free-trial thing they offer, in fact, I think it's one of the servers that got shut down and sued by Blizzard recently...anyway, while the somewhat romantic notion of basically a 40 men organization and real multiplayer experience sounds really cool, there's that long grind between those rare moments, which just gets boring.
I want to see what Guild wars 2 will bring (since it doesn't have the subscription thing).
And LOTR online just went free, right? Don't know what model of "financing" it's on now though.
I once bought a boxset (battlechest?) thingie, opened it, and that is as far as I got :-\
I once tried to play it. Then I stopped.
The I tried again. Then I stopped.
Then I stopped.
I agree with Bulbapuck, but not entirely since I always liked the idea of WoW. I've read through the manual and it got me really interested, but I couldn't get passed the whole idea of having to pay monthly for it.
Also, I was awfully addicted to an MMORPG a couple years ago called FLYFF. Christ, I'd play that all day long. I finally got away from it long enough to lose interest. If you wanted to play that, Calin, maybe I'd reconsider. Maybe. I think I would be too worried I'd get back into it again all the time though.
Oh, and for christ sakes, Leafshade, LET'S PLAY FUCKING MARIO KART! I would love to be in a bunch of races with only AGSers slinging shells at each other ;D Man, it would be a blast.
But since Boyd has mysteriously disappeared, I am apparently the only loser around here who plays it.
\\--EDIT--//
And Dualsie, it is entirely a coincidence that I am posting directly after you. Again.
My good friend Snake,
Set a date and I shall kick your sorry little American arse at Mario Kart.
Bring AGSers.
I will beat the b'jesus out of all of you nuff said (just realised Iv wiped my save file). |(
Tough enough to get 4 people for L4D2, and with the whole new update as well.

Who'd want to play L4d2 anyway?
I played WoW for a few months back in 2006, until I was forced by proxy to quit due to abysmal latency on the server I had been playing on, after moving to Japan. As MMOs go, I can certainly see why the game has been so successful, but I've never been much for the whole MMO experience. It can hold my attention for a limited amount of time, but it becomes very apparent very quickly that it's a static world and no matter what you do, there will never be a true final goal.
I think that my motivation for playing games kind of makes me predisposed to disliking persistent online worlds - I like the epic feel of going forward through a dynamic world and making permanent changes through advancement of a larger plotline. Once you realize that destroying the enormous threat to the universe is ultimately not going to make a lick of difference to the world (Since every other of the millions of players in the game are going to eventually do the same thing, and the moment you step out of your instance, that event is right back to where it was before you started).
It's kind of like the hidden treasure on Melee Island in the first Monkey Island game. "Remember, there are other pirates on this Island, so go easy on the treasure. Leave some for the next person."
That said, I do enjoy multiplayer games, and can have fun in an MMO, but they just don't last for me. That said, if WoW went Freemium, I'd probably download it again.
