In your own opinion, who are the worst drivers in the world?
for me, New York cab drivers, they are always cutting you off! UHHGGG!! (no offense) >:(
I don't know "the World"... so I guess it's hard to say.
Although I managed to drive in circles on a parking lot without killing anybody (well, at least no human beings) and without a drivers license, I'd say that this title belongs to MOI.
Most of my printer drivers are pretty bad- too clunky and resource hogging. And don't get me started on the ancient 3dfx VooDoo drivers, they were downright evil!
(sorry, couldn't resist)

Well, I'm Sorry then. :)
I think I'm the worst driver ever. It's a miracle I'm still alive.

Is that because you realized that your user name is absurdly long? Or perhaps because you weren't sure if the forums could handle automatically editing all of your posts for
txt-style spelling (you know, like, with words and stuff)? Maybe you were under the impression that you would be flamed for constantly quoting the entire post directly before yours?
Elle-oh-elle! Anyway dude, welcome to the forums. Let's be best friends.

My friend Jared is definitely the worst automobile driver of all time. He has on several occasions done things to put us in danger of fatal collisions. And he gets so pissy when I tell him to watch the road. :-\ He's a good guy, but don't let him drive. Please.

The guy who drives the bus to Nun's Valley in Madeira is a nutcase!!!
But to be fair we all survived, so perhaps that makes him an incredibly good driver... but still, yeh, that was scary.
Put it this way. On the road from Funchal to Nun's Valley, there are narrow winding roads, with sheer vertical drops down the mountain. If the bus loses control, we are all dead. And this driver's treating it like Brands Hatch...
And their taxi drivers are also nutcases.
Worst drivers? Old men who drive with their fedoras/hats still on their heads in the car - I don't believe they know where they really are.
I'm amazed at how "good" (I don't mean ironic, I mean that I don't know what other word to use) the French are at driving (well from what I've seen in Paris) - in one of the circular intersections, the road goes around one of the obleisks, there's no markings on the floor but there are like 5 lanes that connect in that crossing and about four tracks that go around the obelisk and all at once like a 100 cars go in and no one crashes...I just don't get that.
I've also seen they parallel park by pushing the cars they've parked in between so they have room...so it's anybody's guess if that makes them good drivers. ;D
Oh, yeah, in Tunisia I saw cab drivers (and other people too) drive like there's 3 lanes (in one direction) when there are clearly only 2 drawn. Not only do they do this all the time but they actually get mad and use the horn when somebody doesn't make room for 3 cars.

Uhh... have you ever been in the car with a French person? They are terrible scary drivers. If you can help it, never drive in france between 1 and 2 pm, as lunch is over, and the drivers are most likely driving having consumed at least a bottle of wine. Driving in France is an utterly terrifying experience, I have done it, and it was hellish. The roundabout at arc du triumph (sp?), which I'm guessing is the roundabout you were referring to, is one of a few places in the world a car insurer will not cover you. You are on your own buddy if you ever decide to drive onto that roundabout.
I've seen my share of bad drivers, from all over. I used to travel in a bus with a truly insane driver. He'd do it all.....driving over sidewalks so as to bypass traffic, stop in the middle of the road to get out and scream at another driver for some wrong that he did, manually lift up (with the help of some insane passers-by?) and remove a car so that he could take advantage of a parking space, etc.
If you are speaking in general, as far as my experience goes, this city near where I live (Rawalpindi, Pakistan) has it horrible. Traffic lights are taken to be optional. The thing anian said with the 2 lanes made 3. Very inconsiderate also.....FULL beam glare in my face at night, and I usually like to keep a little space between me and the next car up ahead, but then someone always comes (usually overtaking me by going onto the oncoming lanes), and takes up that space.
I usually try my best not to go there if I can help it.
In my experience, Berlin cab and bus drivers are every bit as bad as their reputation. One minute into the ride, you start worrying about their anger issues. Five minutes, you start praying they won't kill anyone. Ten minutes, and your biggest hope is that your family will be able to find enough of your mangled corpse for a burial.
The. French.
Trying to cycle around this city is like buying a ticket on a sexy new life or death lottery, only everybody loses.

I was not reffering to that one, but I guess any example will do. Still I used "good" as in "I haven't seen an accident", not "good" as in WTF ARE THEY DOING?!?! and I certanly wouldn't drive there. I just got out of the phase where every trip with a car leaves me in a puddle of sweat and I like it that way thankyouverymuch. ;D
I mean, in Croatia, most of the drivers are not that bad at driving as they are simply rude and inconsiderate, which might be worse.
Driving school students are the worst drivers. And those who don't have a driver's licence. But it's hard to say really, since I've only ever seen a fraction of the whole world.
Come and live in my pocket pabbol, we will drive around the world together.

Driving school students are the worst drivers.
That's hardly fair. First of all they're not technically drivers since they're just learning, that's almost like saying you're a doctor when you're a freshman. Those cars have double pedal sets and they have a big sign that says they're learners so basically it's other drivers that should be careful and even help them out (like letting them change lanes etc.).
When I was learning to drive (4th or 5th hour of actual driving), one time I couldn't enter the crossing cause of the traffic. I was well on the pedestrian crossing, almost passed it. Then a woman driving a bicycle with a dog leash tied to the handlebars goes in front of me (instead of behind the car) in a rush and I hit her (well more of a push than a hit, she didn't get hurt or anything because the car was starting to move). After I manage to turn into a pretty empty street and like 100m later a guy gains on me stops his car so I can't pass, gets out of the car and starts to yell at me for not entering the crossing sooner. My driving instructor saw the guy was an ass and just told me to forget about it.
That was a f***ed up day, I can tell you that. ::)
The cars of driving students are clearly marked - that means YOU have to be more careful. Everybody had to learn it and it takes plenty of miles before you can say you got good at driving.
What you're saying is true, Anian. It sucks when people get mad at students who are just learning. What I'm saying is also a cold hard fact: They just started learning to drive -> They're bad drivers. It's logical! \o/

Is it true that you don't need to write a test to get your license there? Just hand over some rupees and you now have a shiny new drivers license. So I've been told.
Hahahaha....who is your inside man?
I wouldn't really know, Ryan. I don't think there is a written test. As far as I go, he just asked me a couple of questions about road signs and stuff. Maybe I subconsciously handed him a few more rupees than necessary, and he made it easy for me? :D

In your own opinion, who are the worst drivers in the world?
Women.
I thought French drivers after our little road trip for mittens 08, but I was in Italy lately.. yeah, road markings are purely decoration there.
The biggest problem with French drivers, and from what I have seen, Italians, is that they all follow a set of rules, that are known to all of them, not outlined in any legal code, and I cannot seem to learn. They are all safe, they only become bad or dangerous when an outsider upsets the status quo.
Funnily enough, a recent US study concluded that women were slightly better drivers then men.
I strongly suspect that the people conducting the study were all doing their makeup and texting on cell phones instead of actually tabulating data.
I'll extend CJs idea and then start getting flamed on my comment: Women drivers in Arabic countries that wear burcas! ;D ;D ;D ;D
Guys you've never been to Egypt, or Syria or other eastern countries to understand the meaning of "bad driver". Honestly...
People who do 40 in a 30 zone and continue to do 40 in a 60 zone.
These are the drivers I'd love to ram off the road!

Yes, I am in a Bad Mood.
Just wanted to apologize for sounding like a major ass in that post.
The worst drivers, well I seem to drive with them every day. I take a major route (highway) to work back and forth and I have seen so many bad drivers it is not even funny. Semi-Truck Drivers, Tailgaters, People with excessive speed, people switching lanes constantly weaving in and out of traffic, etc.
I had this one guy try to smash into my car and drive me off the road because I had to panic brake to avoid hitting the cars in front of me in direct sunlight. I could barely see in front of me, and this asshole behind me starts honking his horn relentlessly, then proceeds to try and smash me off the Highway...But Luckily, I swerved in time (onto the shoulder).
The speed limit on the I-290 that I drive is 55 MPH, but I usually do 60-65 and leave plenty of room in front of me. I am a defensive driver.
Been driving for 20 years and still don't like it.

That was a video that I took while driving to get my lunch. Enjoy. :)
Domino dude! That video was no fun. I atleast expected some near fatal excidents to happen in it. :=
But I think some drivers in US are quite awfull. I hear that it's pretty easy to get a lincense there.
Witnessed too many 'close calls' in traffic lately. Last week I was driving on an 80km/h lane when on to other lane all of the sudden one of those damn 40 km/h cars gets on the road without looking or turning signal or anything. A car behind him had to do an emergancy brake and almost hit it that damn scoot mobile in the back. Think that poor guy almost had a heart attack.
Also, Stuff like this makes me laugh:

And don't forget Teliabinsk, Russia! :D

Whats with those things? Like what's their purpose? I've never once seen anything like that in Canada.
I also seen on youtube a video of a pole that raises from the ground to stop traffic. Insane and sometimes deadly devices to stop traffic.
Why not just an arm that lowers down? It's much less damaging to a car.
Odd.
Those are bollards. The one you mention are meant to keep unauthorized people out of things like buslanes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_Cw0QJU8ro
Like here you can see people not getting the clue DO NOT ENTER (especially the first car who even stands in front of the raised bollards). And it serves them right. There are enough warning signs around that these devices raise from the ground and you should not enter if you're not authorized.
From my experience and what I hear, New Mexico and California are extreme opposites in what their drivers are known for. And California is known for having really good drivers.
Not if you go to Utah. Utahns hate Cali-drivers (but everyone else in the West US hates Utahn drivers)
