It looks like the second X-Men sequel is finally coming. Sometime in May of 2006.
I just found some newly released pics of the movie.
It looks like they've got Kelsey Grammer (Dr. Frasier Crane) playing the role of Beast. That's a perfect casting, if you ask me. Some years ago, a friend of mine and I tried to figure out who would play who if they ever made an X-Men movie, and I figured Grammer would be perfect fit for the Beast. I also said Gary Busey would be perfect for the role of Cable, but I have yet to see if that works...
Anyway, the Angel (not Archangel yet) is also making an appearance, played by actor Ben Foster ("Flash Forward", the pierced kid in "The Punisher"). You can see pictures of Beast and Angel here (http://www.usatoday.com/life/gallery/2005/x3/flash.htm).
According to Movies Online (http://www.moviesonline.ca/movienews_6567.html), the story is supposed to go directly into the Dark Phoenix Saga. Some other characters who are rumored to be appearing are Gambit, Psylocke, Juggernaut, and the Sentinels. You can see a rough casting call on IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0376994/fullcredits). Apparently, the entire original cast will be returning for this sequel.
I can't wait. Does anyone else have any other news on this movie, or any other comic based movies?
Cool, this is the first I've heard about the sequel, thanks for sharing it with us/me!
Gambit is one of my fave characters from the x-men, along with collosus, so I hope he's got a bigger part than the steel guy did! (And why did he have an american accent? He's supposed to be russian!)
Yeah, voice and character wise, Kelsey is a good choice! I was worried that he'd look wrong but he's so masked in make up you can't tell it's even him! Can you?
I wonder if the bit with "Hank mcCoy" on the TV news in a previous movie will be acknowledged?
EDIT: Dark phoenix saga? Boring! I say "Beyond good and evil"! That had apocalypse in it too!
Beast looks pretty cool. I honestly didn't love the movies, though I love the comics. I just felt they were all kind of incomplete...but of course, that always seems to happen with movies based on comics. Maybe this one will be better. I just hope they have Apocalypse as a villian at some point...he's so badass.
It is rumoured that the plot may involve a storyline from Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men comic series, where a geneticist formulates a cure for the mutant gene.
I am excited (but a tad nervous) that the movie is still getting a May '06 release after all the trouble signing a director and finalising a script.
I think they're making a pretty nice job with the marvel comics conversions to movies. My most awaited is Spider-man 3, though... Rumours talk about lizard or Venom as the next enemy. Anyone has a clue?
Spider man 3, according to the official site, will be released in 514 (!) days! Well, you'll have to wait a lot.
Spoiler
I suppose that Harry will have something to do, as he knows that Peter Parker is Spiderman, the man who killed his father. He also knows that Peter is with Mary Jane, which could piss him off even further. But I would like to see Venom...
Kirsten Dunst accidentally revealed in an interview that there are two badguys in the next Spider-man movie: Venom & Sandman.
Personally I thought Sandman was a bit obscure, & I'm not sure how Harry will fit into it all, but I hope Sam can pull a greta movie out of the bag again.
The actors for both parts were also revealed, but I cannot remember them at the moment. I'd google, but I'm afraid I'm in a rush.
I severely doubt they'd use The Lizard. Having two sympathetic mad scientist characters in a row would be pushing it a bit.
On the other hand, Venom (well, Eddie Brock really), like every thing from Michelinie's period is just bland and stupid.
I think though that the marketing people want a villain that will go well in trailers, and the Sandman morphing and the symbiote...squelching around, is more impressive than classic Kraven homoeroticism or Rose daintyness.
Also, I am now arguing about supervillains on the internet, goodbye dignity!
the highpoint of kraven if he were to appear would be himself blowing off his own face for no apparent reason

Correction: There WOULD be a reason, but nobody except him can see it. (Much like most things really ;))
Anyways, an interesting thing to bring up. But for the love of grog WHY can't they do an Incredibles sequel instead... that was a pretty darn good film...
Still, X-men and Spiderman are pretty cool. ;D
Disney probably will. But only for home entertaniment in DVD (?) As they have done with every other film. TOY story, Mulan, Aladin, etc...
Toy Story 2 was initially meant to be a crappy straight to video sequel in the line of all the other films released by Disney, but Pixar found, to their shock, that unlike Disney themselves, they had some form of creative dignity, and threw out all that had already been made, and restarted to produce a decent film.
And with ties to Disney being severed now, I don't think any more Pixar sequels will be forthcoming.
On another note, Sony believes they can get 6-7 films out the current Spider-Man franchise [provided they don't panic and muck it up like Warner did with Batman in the 90's after Batman Returns]. I hope by the seventh film they have the greatest enemy Spider-Man ever faced, namely Howard Mackie.
How did the X-Men 3 thread turn into talk about Spiderman? :P
Myself, I found Spiderman 1 a great movie, but Spiderman 2 I found kinda ... lame. The sequel didn't seem to have the same heart as the first movie. However, with X-Men I loved X2 even better than the orginal. They really amped up the action and story. I can't wait for #3, even if Brian won't be the director. I also can't wait to see the Superman movie. I love my comic book movies! :)
Disney are making a straight to video Toy Story 3 aren't they?
Without Pixar's help...
...
Excuse me...
*vomits for three hours*
Anywhoo. Brad Bird's next movie is supposed to a traditionally animated science fiction detective story called Ray Gunn. Warner Brothers own the rights to it, but Pixar are trying to get it off them.
And...Spiderman 2 is complete kick-arse on toast.
Pixar's connections to Disney aren't precisely severed. The contract expires with the release of Cars (ending the preset number of films obligation), but the changing of staff at Disney makes for a less stressful potential relationship. It won't be as Disney-weighted as the last agreement. The Disney Toy Story sequel sounds crap-tastic and there are attempts to get a Pixar script in the works rather than have Disney crap one out.
I'd love to see an Incredibles sequel too, hopefully Pixar jumps into that one instead of Disney grabbing the option (one more advantage to renewing agreements with Disney).
Back on-topic, look forward to X-Men 3, despite not being much of a comic book reader I dug the first two. Kelsey does seem the perfect choice from the little I've read/watched of the series and they've got a more interesting assortment of characters pending this time around.
The Incredibles was originally written by Bird for Warner incidently, I guess since people woefully overlooked The Iron Giant, which was adorable.
I am waiting for Bugs 2... I don't have data about this release, it's just a desire.
About Spiderman, I think Venom will be there, since in one point Jonna says Rinho something like "I've just fired Eddie" (And Eddie Brock hates spiderman and Parker because he is fired for haven't been able to shoot a photo of the hero...) And one of the storylines (I've found 2 or 3 in the internet) about the symbiote's genesis is that Jonna's son brings it from the moon, as a rock.
Spoiler
(Ain't he making a party in Spiderman 2 about his future trip to the moon?)
(Some other stories mention it's a symbiote that Spiderman confuses with a spider-suit that Dr. Increible has made for him, or that it's a spider-suit made by black rose... correct... anyone?)
Anyway... yeah! X-men 3! I liked it, but, why leather!?! I would like to see the heroes with masks and yellow lycra suits!
I think that Venom is a symbiote that Peter found when he was transfered along with all the super heros somewhere to fight each other by Beyonder. He kept the uniform but realized that it was "alive" so he had Dr. Incredible take it of him. After that I sort of lost track as to what happened, cause I stoped reading Spider man (Damn!)

Apocalypse would be an awesome addition to the film series, I'd love to see him make an appearance. Although, from what I understand, the original cast from the first movie was only signed on to make two sequels, so there may or may not be another one after this.
Then again, The Angel is finally making an appearance, so if they do make another sequel (which I think they probably will) maybe they will add in Apocalypse, and we may end up getting to see Archangel as well.
A few others I'd like to see: The Blob (definitely, just for laughs... "Nothing can stop the blob!" XD), and Omega Red.

Around the time Spider-Man 2 came out on DVD, I
DO remember hearing that there would be two villians, but I don't remember who... I thought I heard something about Mysterio... I also do not remember where I heard this. Now that I think about it, I think I also heard Venom (Farlander is right about Jameson's son having a party celebrating his career with NASA in SM2), or the Lizard (Kurt Connors did show up in Spidey 2), not sure.
I don't mind if they keep making Spidey sequels, but I personally hope that Harry and this Green Goblin business just disappears for a while...

Spider man left the suit to die in a church, where it was found by Eddie Brock. Both Eddie and the suit shared a hatred for Spider-Man, so the suit attached itself to Eddie, and the two of them vowed to destroy Spider-Man.
Even though it'd be awesome to see Venom in the next Spider-Man, I'm not really sure how they could fit this story into the movie.
Just found this (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0413300/)...
IMO, I'd rather see Mysterio than Sandman. :-\ I read that Kirsten Dunst says that this will be her last Spider-Man movie, unless Sam Raimi and the rest of the crew stays on. Bad news?
Sorry for the double-post.
I assume it will be a biological experiment thingy like Ultimate Venom rather than an alien.
And they could have it bond with a street mime and it'd be a more complex and interesting character than Eddie Brock.
Also, why haven't we seen the Hypno Hustler in the films yet?
Or Spot, The Gibbon, The Grizzly, The Ringer, Stegron, the spider-kid, humbug, the mudman (you know, the amalgam of Sand and hydro man), the 30, 000 odd "half baked" spideys from Maximum Clonage, fusion (the midget scientist/midget janitor destruction machine), red ghost's super apes, ramrod, the cyclone (he can totally spin real fast), demogoblin (a triumph of writing, really!), slyde, Cardiac (who has the superpower of appearing endlessly in the early 90's and then suddenly dissapearing for all time), the hate monger (alien ape man of course, no hitler clones for me!), the gold bug, cyborg Silvermane, The Answer (who is he? A good question, and he is THE ANSWER...and that is the extent of his character).
These are all classic villains! 40 years legacy of classic writing.
You know something? Although I've been reading Spiderman for 5-6 years in a row (but probably before 1990, and in Greek, which could go even further back in time), I have never heard any of these, except maybe cyclone...
Nikolas, that's one of the stories, but I've found three of them... :) Dunno which one is the correct one, I think that Stan Lee should edit a REALLY big compilation each 10 years or something choosing which one of the versions is the correct one and make it official, if he does not do something similar. Maybe a 200 pages high graphic quality edition, it should rock, and it really help the guys like are too lazy for following the stories week by week buying the comic. :)
About Spider-man 3... Topher Grace as Venom?
He is a "^_^" boy! He can't be the bad one, too skinny and lovely! Maybe we're being witness of a future Spin off, like happened with "Elektra" in Daredevil's film? I think it's been suggested many times that Venom is not really a bad guy, he just doesn't want to share NY with another Spider hero. I've been told that they become allies when there's a superior super evil to combat.
About the finish of the saga... Maybe with Raimi, but the story must be developed at least with Green Goblin 2 and the final redemption of the osborne family.
***Spiderman Comic saga spoiler***
Spoiler
Apparently, Osborne Sr. is not dead, and he wants to kill Spidey and MJ, but a redimed Osborne Jr. Comes as Goblin 2 and saves them both, killing goblin 1 and himself
I think... I just follow the series by internet short briefs... :)
Oh, and a post coital thought (of all places) reminds me I neglected the Big Wheel. He has a big wheel.
And I won't say "'nuff said"
Farlander, if you go to the official Spiderman page (google spiderman 3, it worked for me) you will so all info for about 15 vilains. But thanks...
You know which movie sucked big time, where as a comic book started out pretty well? SPAWN! The most awfull bullshit movie I've ever seen taken from a comic book. Not to mention that I think that Tod McFarlant (<-Is this his name?) was co-directing it, but with no talent whatsoever!
EDIT: Checked the official X-men 3 site! Juggernaut will be in! That's nice. An indestructable super vilain. Yeah! Why not?
Spider-man:
I've always been against Grace playing Venom. Carnage maybe, but not venom. And awhile ago, the director mentioned that if he were to do a venom movie, it would probably include Carnage, and they would get their own movie devoted to them, like Spider-man 4.
Then later, I read in the news on SuperHeroHype that Dunst states that Venom is in this one!! That didn't make sense to me, but its got credentials. I'm still hoping that Grace is actually playing the shape-shifter, or at least one of the personalities.
I think if I were to be writing it, I would probably have Spider-man get that suit during this movie, but at the end get rid of it, as mentioned above, and have it attack/absorb Brock in the church and have the screen go black as it covers him, teasing you for the next one in years to come.
Sandman... I'm pretty stoked about it. I just really hope they continue to make great sequels for as long as the stars can stand it.
-------------
X-men:
I enjoyed this franchise a lot as well. (They need to come out with the 90's cartoon on DVD, my bootleg doesn't cut it). I would love Sentinels in this movie, especially when its been teased to us in xmen 2, when mystique is on the computer, and the secret project file was shown, and with Magneto going beserk this movie, the people may demand the government to help control them.
I've always wanted them to do the Cable/Bishop storyline with Apocolypse, coming back in time to stop the mutant virus. Maybe next one, especially if they bring in Archangel and Apololypse storylines.
Whatever, I'm just a needy fanboy.

Well in the interview with Dunst for Spidey 2 she let slip it was Doc Ock which pissed off some of the Sony execs, this leads me to think that she's not being as truthful this time around- or really just IS stupid. Besides, Raimi has said over and over and over that he doesn't want Venom in a movie (despite what imdb says). Check the interviews, you'll see what I mean. Raimi is very dedicated to making the story flow a certain way and in a certain order, and Venom would way overaccelerate the flow. Especially since he's hinted more than once that this one will be about a final confrontation with Green Goblin 2 (Harry Osborne) and Spidey, with Curt Connors along as his haplessly violent alter ego The Lizard. I'd be surprised if Sandman is even in it since that would involve yet another introduction and backstory and Raimi's too smart to waste more screen time on that. After all, you'd have William Baker (alias Flint Marko) as a petty crimelord thug, then he'd have to be shown hiding in some test site near georgia and being bombarded with nuclear radiation while on the beach. It's just too much to have a complete backstory for a villain at this stage of the game, not when they've established Curt and Harry already (and wouldn't take too much screen time to show their transition). There is also the slight rumor around that, like in the comic, Norman isn't dead and returns from the grave (owing to his extremely heightened powers of regeneration). That could make for a possibly sticky situation indeed for the wall crawler.
Also, just a note about the bit with Jonah's son. In Ultimate Spiderman (I believe) the origin of the symbiote has been changed from Secret Wars to Jonah's son John (Man-Wolf) Jameson finding it on one of his space missions. I doubt his encounter with the ruby on the moon will be covered in the film, so no Man-Wolf in Spiderman 3.
Personally, I've never had a use for Venom. He's big, dumb, and not at all interesting. Marvel has so many fanboys lusting over him, however, that they simply can't decide whether to make him good or evil, so he just waffles back and forth whenever it's convenient.
Prog, I was worried about having Venom in the next film too.
I'm glad to see there's some doubt, originating from Raimi no less.
I really want to see The Lizard, The Vulture, Electro...
