So, I want to be able to edit my AGIStudio and AGS games but XP doesn't want me to. It seems that all the folders are automatically write-protected. When I remove the write-protection, it comes back again! What should I do? :'(
Are the folders/files on a CD, Floppy-Disk or your Hard Drive?
What is the specific problem or error you're having and when does it occur?
What proceedure are you doing to "remove write protection"?
Is this just a recent problem, or were you able to access/edit those folders/files before?
Are you logged onto your computer with a user-account with limited access, or with a user-account with full access to those folders?
did you COPY those folders from a CD or Floppy Disk?
How about full spyware/virus scan. Just in case. Smells like a virus to me...
I didn't copy them from a cd.
The files are on the hard drive.
I remove write protection by right-clicking and un-selecting it in the folders properties.
I used to be able to access them when we had Win98.
I do believe that my account has full-access, but I'll check.
If I have full-access and it still doesn't work, I'll scan it for viruses.
I know what you're saying, this happend to me a while ago too. It worked fine again after I formatted my computer and re-installed windows. :P
Strange... I've got XP and it never happened to me.
If the files are put on an NTFS drive, check which user owns the files.
However, if you login as Administrator instead of as yourself, you should be able to access those files.
Then again, XP can be odd that way... I once used BeOS to copy NTFS protected files to a FAT harddrive. That solved my read-only problem back then.
You can also use Unix for this... Knoppix is a cd-only version that you can run to move your files to a FAT file system... then the write-issues will be history.
