Has any indy developer made a 3D/2D AG?

It has come to my attention that quite a few people have an interest in making a two-demensional adventure game with three-demensional characters(probably using a modded 3D engine). As to your knowledge do you know about any indy development teams or individuals that have actually accomplished it? Also if you do know please give me a link to the game site so I may take a look myself.
Thanks

I have wanted to make one for a long time, and am kind of working on an engine for it myself, because I don't think anyone is going to make one any time soon (I am not a good coder though, don't wait for it to be released...).
The King's Quest 9 team seem to be creating their remake in 2d/3d, basing it on the free Crystal Space 3d game engine http://www.kq9.org/media/screenshots/
I don't know of another amateur team doing so.

Mr Jake

I think he is looking for a 2d game with 3d rendered gfx, not a 3d game.

and stop pluging Scotch :D

scotch

Why would he guess that they would use a modded 3d engine if he wanted pre rendered graphics?
I'm not plugging ._. he asked if anyone was working in 2d/3d...

Scotch is right I'm referring to 2d rendered backgrounds with real-time 3D characters ala the way LucasArts made GF with the GRIME.

BTW are you making this engine from scratch or is it based on an existing 3D engine? Crystal Space 3d would probably be the way to go considering the features it has in comparison to other free programs and it would save you years in production time. Better yet you could program it as a plugin for AGS. :o I'm sure everyone would love that.

(sorry about the double post, there doesn't seem to be a way to edit)

What about the big bit that says "modify" at the top of your post (beside "Reply with Quote")? :P

But they're still 2D, moron. Pre-Rendered means their static images which = 2D.

I'm using OGRE for the 3d graphics part, I'd have to code most of the adventure game related things even if I was using crystal space, I think, so it's not that much more work, and I get to use more up to date graphics features this way (sorry for those of you with older computers :P).
A plugin for AGS would be almost impossible, at least for what I want .

Yes, GF had pre rendered backgrounds Hotspot, that is what he is asking about, 3d characters on 2d backgrounds, however the 2d backgrounds were made, and what I am trying to make will support that (although I plan to use semi 3d backgrounds myself).

I don't have terribly high hopes that I'll finish my engine, and if I do it won't be very usable for other people, like AGS is.
