I just started an account on Pixel Joint.  But I was wondering if anyone else from here has an account there?  So far, I've found Helm, Big Brother, and Darth Mandarb.

Uh oh, you found Pixel Joint. Now I'm going to have to kill you.

;)

Damien

Cool place, I visit it almost on a daily basic.

My PixelJoint Profile

See you there.

Darth Mandarb

It's a cool site ...

I don't post there really (don't have time right now for more than just looking in) but I do check it daily (or near daily).

Eventually, once my life calms down, I plan on posting there regularly!

Wow, that's... not good... not good at all... I mean, at least here at AGS, if I put something up, I feel comfortable enough with the community that I know it won't be taken and used against or without my consent ya' know.  This particular part of the policy is going to keep my 'art' away from the site, no matter how good or bad it may be.

True.  There should be a little tick-box there, for when you first upload a piece, that you click if you don't want the piece to be copied.  So if someone right-clicks on it, it will say something along the lines of,
" Pixeljoint.com
We don't take kindly to plagiarism!
"

They already have a tick-box so that you can specify if you will allow people to use your work as an avatar.

Matter of fact, I think I will say something about this to them, personally...

I think you should, because from what they're policy says, they can pretty much take all the submitted sprites and publish a book about pixel art and we won't get a damned thing out of it.  They can just continue to hord art until they own enough to do just about anything... kinda sickening really.

I suppose if they did start protecting people's work, you'd probably have to pay for some kind of premium account to get your work protected.

On the other hand, Photobucket is no different.  Your work goes completely unprotected.  I can't even fathom how many photos and pixels I've "stolen" from there (mind you, I never would even think about trying to pass it off as my own).  They do offer a premium account, but as far as I know, it only gives you more storage space.

I'm all about protecting my work.  I don't do much, and it's really not the greatest, but I still don't want some chump swiping it and saying that he drew it himself.

EDIT:
Actually, I've been thinking... I don't really think they're going to listen to little old me, seeing as I'm a n00b there, and I'm only one person.  I think it would make more sense to "gang up" on them, if I were to say something.  Get more than one person to bring this up to them.

wow! Pixel Joint, two of my favorite words. I will surely join.

It's a good place to put up a temporary portfolio until you have webspace...

Although the forums there are a step and a half below Pixelopolis in the level of intelligence.

Browsing for random pixel art there is good for when you want to test your sanity. Although things are getting somewhat better over time. Don't post on their forums, personally.

I don't think the folks over at PixelJoint are going to "steal" anybody's work.

My guess is that the disclaimer thing is probably just in case they decide, at some point in the future, to release a book/cd/dvd type thing about PixelJoint (coffee table book or something) they don't need to give money to EVERYBODY who has work featured/shown in the product.

I see it more as them protecting themselves rather than trying to steal from anybody.  But I could be wrong.

I wouldn't be putting anything on there that I was planning on keeping proprietary anyway!  But I really don't see what it would hurt.  I can't imagine they would claim ownership of your work just 'cause you put it on that site?

I will probably still post ... just maybe be a little more weary?

Ben

I signed up a few days ago. Thanks, Hyde.
