Title: Your account has been accessed from China.
Post by: LRH on Sun 05/06/2011 05:23:18
Yup. My gmail account has apparently been accessed from China. Google tells me that if this is not my activity (which it is not, of course) I should change my password immediately.

It was apparently accessed on June 1st, and google hasn't alerted me until now. Nothing seems to have been changed...I went ahead and changed all of my important online passwords...

Did someone log in and not find anything interesting? I'm having a hard time finding out just what went on. Did this happen to anyone else?

Do you think I'm safe?!

Ah!!!

this happened to me (gmail hacked from china) around last november. It was actually an exploit if I recall of gmail rather than a password hack. I changed all my important passwords as a precaution but I dont think there was anything serious

My account was also recently (as well as a couple months back) accessed from China. It may possibly even have been the same date! (June 1st)! It isn't showing the IP on the "Recent Activity" list any longer, however, so I'm not sure if I could compare with you :(.

Personally, I blame Gilbert :D. He's probably secretly behind all major events in the world, subtely pushing them into the place he wants them, and accessing our accounts is obviously part of that. :=

I changed my password both times.

I'm sure you already know this but make sure you don't change your password from the link in the email telling you about the "illegal access"...

This is a scam [supposedly] from China.  They send official looking eMails that appear to come from google and then provide a link to change your password.  They spoof the gmail login page and voila, they have your login/password.

It's a good idea to regularly change/update your password(s) anyway but just make sure you login directly and not from that email.

Nonono, at least for me, it wasn't an email informing me. It was a big red bar across my Gmail inbox that said "Your account has had suspicious activity recently, click here to learn more", and clicking opened up that "Recent Activity" list (which is also accessible from the bottom of your gmail page.

I don't know if it was from China, but a week ago from today, my Gmail was also compromised. A few people in my contact list received links to a malicious site. I mentioned this to someone a few days ago. He said that I was like the fifth or sixth person to tell him that within a few days.

After I became aware that my email was hacked, I ran AVG and Malwarebytes, and they both came up negative. My computer's not been acting strange, and my email hasn't been compromised since last Sunday. I think we can rule viruses out.

It's not got anything to do with viruses (I don't think). What you mention happens often enough to me from people who use hotmail (:P). It's simply a matter of their password being compromised (they chose a very simply password easy to guess, or they entered their password somewhere stupidly and gave it away, or...something.

Simplest thing is just to change your password.

Don't you think that the fact that suddenly, a bunch of people are coming forward claiming that their Gmail accounts have been compromised is at all significant? I can tell you that my password wasn't easy to guess. I'm sure that many other people who've had this issue also have good passwords.

No, I meant the recieving of emails like:

"I just collected $363 in just about a day online. scored it easily at - http://...... - you will love life so much more!"

From people you know (or from you to people you know).

Yay

What bugs me is that every article I've read says "hundreds of accounts" when it seems much more like at least thousands of accounts. I'm confused about the hacking bit as well. I generally always check the url whenever I log into anything, and my password was reasonably sufficient before I changed it yesterday. Still, I haven't noticed any changes in any activity of any of my online accounts, so I think I'm safe after changing the password.

This happened to me too. When I checked my gmail about a year ago I had emails from google saying they couldn't authorize purchases for drugs. Someone used my email to try and buy percocets, oxys, and zantax pills.
