Your bestest AGS buddy?

This is the thread that's gonna make most people go "Why is nobody mentioning me!?" and make other people shed happy tears.

So there I was, lying in my bed, trying to sleep. It was no use, I don't feel sleepy at all. So I started thinking about stuff. About people. About AGS people. I began to wonder: "Whom do I consider my best friend around the AGS circles?"

This was an intriguing question for me, since I've made a lot of new friends around here and I like them all so much. But there are a couple of people who I'm more in touch with than the others. Finally I managed to cut the list of people down to two. Both are the first people from here that I really got to know, Mozesh and Ishmael. These are the guys I can talk to about almost everything that's going on with me and get along with better than the rest. Between these guys it's almost impossible to me to choose whom I consider a better friend...

I'm almost certain that every regular member of this very socially active community, who has been around for a long enough time, has made some friends here. To you I present this question:

Who is your bestest AGS buddy and why?

Privateer Puddin'

I will always treasure one night looking at the stars with Disco during Mittens in Greece discussing time travel :D

Timosity

Not being rude to anyone but I've never really considered anyone here a friend in the same way I consider friends I see.

I have never been good at communicating with people over the internet, it all seems too fake to me (note: this is just me), although this community is good, I'm not here often enough, there's people that have helped me with scripting etc which I've appreciated, but I've never felt close enough to anyone to consider jetting off overseas to meet up, that's all too nerdy for me, I've seen all the pics. I hate to mention names cause I'll forget some people but off the top of my head, the names that stand out as people I'd call acquaintances (and these people probably barely remember me).

Las Naranjas, MillsJRoss, Squinky, Gilbot, Dave Gilbert, SSH, Petteri, Juncmodule, Scorpiorus and my best buddy The RPG Creator but not CJ that wanker can go get F.....jk

Evil

LGM and I have been friends for 6 or 7 years, and are currently roommates and will be for the next 16 months.

Sylvr

I don't know if that counts, you know each other in real life!

Aw  :D I feel quite likewise Tom, but....I thought you were asleep at the time  :-\

I was too self-conscious about my time travel ideas, but wanted to tell someone, and thought I could cheat by telling someone who was sleeping :P. I'm glad it ended up being a poignant event for both though :D

So to the topic, who is our bestest AGS buddy? I sort of agree with Timosity in that the internet is a hard obstacle to work around; there are some friends I've made here who I am almost inseparable with at meets, but seldom speak to otherwise. However, I have made several close friends through the meetups that have translated quite well in extra-AGS situations.

Everyone knows who they are, but if pressed to pick just one friend who makes me grateful everyday to have found the AGS community, it would be Magintz. I PMed Gary after a post he made before Brittens 2005 where he offered to be a tour guide in London, and since I was shortly going there myself decided to contact him. Since then we have developed quite a good friendship and visit, chat, and go in trips together whenever possible :)

This is wonderful.  I love AGA, who never ceases to amuse me with his pathetic attempts at insults.  That, and...I'm his father.

There, I've said it.

I should also add that BOYD1981 is cool and I'm making a game about him so, yeah.

And visy is excellent, as are 85% of the people in the irc channel.  If you are in that 15% then you are not excellent.

I'll reserve this space for when I've been around a bit longer and have solidified some friendships... maybe once I've made a game or two and attended Mittens.

There are a few people I like more than others, but I wouldn't say I've made any real 'friends' yet... there isn't anybody here I dislike, though.  :)

Nikolas

There is NO way I can mention only 1 person! Sorry!

In no particular order:

Thomas Regin! I brought him here, I should know. I gave him contact to Dave, I should know. He's come to my house, met my wife and children. He's fucking brilliant!
Vince XII: I love the guy! A well known fact, even to music reviews
Quote from: Amateur Game composersNikolas Sideris was picked to help Vince Twelve out in the music department and although the love these two apparently need to show to each other on various forums and interviews became somewhat nauseating to me...
;D That Mark guy MUSt know something we don't! :D http://www.freewebs.com/amateurcomposers/ (On Linus)
Lemmy and Binky: How could I not mention them?!?!?
And I should also mention Alkis21, although I can't call him a 'friend' just yet.
finally a guy who is not here anymore: esper. I miss that guy, very much at times... :)

Lionmonkey

I've got no buddies in AGS, everybody hates me in here. because

since I had a headache at that time, I decided that my avatar will give anybody who sees it a headache too.

Ok, really I think that there are no people in the Internet, only one, and he/she is pretending to be many people in order to get my social number.

Well, I have kind of the same attitude towards it as Timosity, in that it's hard to consider friendship if you've never met them in person. On the other hand, I talk with loads of old good (real) friends on MSN that have been my closest friends in the past but haven't seen personally for ages. For example, one guy who used to be my best friend for a long time in the past I talk to often on MSN, but haven't seen personally since last summer. And even that was an accidental meeting. On top of that as well, he lives like 500-1000m away from my house, which should warrant me visiting some time. So yeah, I think in these modern times, friendship is a sliding scale. There's always been degrees, and the Internet just adds a new dimension to it.

But not to get sidetracked, I think I've bonded best with Bunnymilk (aka ambientcoffeecup), Tuomas, zyndikate, Progz, Al_Ninio, and several others on #AGS. Of course, I can't discount all the art peers on the forums, I just hope some of you would visit the channel some time. Kids, you never call, you never write!

P.S. Honorary mention to Peder for being my hosting provider :D.

BOYD1981

:D

I think Progz is awesome, i find all of his artwork truly incredible and his dedication to his projects truly inspirational, and his scripting ability amazing. He's a pretty neat musician too  ;)

But, I would have to consider both Obi and Haddas my best non-irl friends, i've been talking to both of them since they were around 14 and have continued to do so on a regular basis. Obi especially is a friend, sometimes i love him, sometimes i hate him, and sometimes i want to punch him, but his friendship is a burden i'm glad to bare :P

There are many others i could mention but one person i should is Sylvr, i'd never really spoken to her on the forums i don't think, but then once the Stickam room was established she came along and i'm really glad i got the change to talk to her as she's one of those people who instantly makes me feel happier for seeing and her being around has led to some rather funny moments on stickam. she also owns the only laughing penguin finger puppet in the world :P

Inkoddi is brilliant too, and Pablo is always around on irc for me to throw random stuff at (or to be thrown at random stuff :D).

I think the AGS community as a whole is full of great people.

Hmmm, plenty of acquaintances, but as for friends, only 2 really come to mind. Pretty much, if they're online we're talking...
and the winners are.....

I love you Vince and Victor :D In a purely friendly way.... or is it ;)

Snake

There's a number of people on these forums that I like and find funny and/or very INTER-LEK-CHUOL. But I don't know them enough to call them friends. But indeed they would be people that I'd definately like to meet. And there are a couple people around here that I'd like to punch in the fuckin' head too, sometimes.

Ah, but back in the day, I'd have to say Squinky was my bestest AGS buddy :)

He hasn't been around here in forever. We used to chat on MSN for hours about nothing, really, and of course AGS. And the guy was freaking funny - our sence of humor's were very alike and we worked well together (the little time we did on MoNKeY WReNCH - probably only a couple people remember what the hell that is).

I emailed him weeks ago...

I fucking miss that guy!

SQUINKY WHERE ARE YOU!!!???

My decline in activity on the net in a year's time has meant that I've probably lost some of that friendship online stuff..

Like Nik, who didn't mention me!  :o Again, probably 'cos I disappeared off msn for a long time.

Victor has took me off his myspace friend's list! Oh noes!  :(

Haddas, he's a cool guy.

Thomas Vob, what happened to him?

Esper, too!

And erm PMDee keeps messaging me on myspace, but doesn't give me anything to write back about! Bless him.

I'd say I get along with most folk here, and all this namechecking means I'll leave someone out and they'll be like "What about me?!!" so erm, sorry.

Edit: Like Gord! And Domino!

Buckethead

hmmm I think I should mention Barbar. And of course everyone else who made me enjoy the stickamroom  ;)

Pumaman

Making friends with people from the internet?? Don't be ridiculous!!!

Gord10

I like many other AGS'ers; it is impossible to give one name.

Pablo, Mozesh, Largopredator, Barbarian, Babar, SSH, ManicMatt, Nikolas... And many other fellas whose names weren't written here.
