Title: Your favourite Terminator movie and why
Post by: on Wed 09/02/2005 22:22:51
Call me a die-hard 80's fan, but I would have to say that Terminator 1 (1984) was my favourite mainly due to the cool techno music and futuristic flashbacks...brilliant :)

I'd say Terminator 2. Not just for the great special effects for its time, but also because in this movie the terminator himself became more human. He learned about human emotion and caring about others, not just following his programming. You could actually relate to the metal man in a strange way.  In the other two movies the terminator really lacked personality in my oppinion.

2, perhaps because it was the first of the 3 i saw..

however, i do really like both 1 and 3, infact i thought 3 was a really worthy sucessor to the first two.

Not in my opinion, part 3 seemed like it existed solely to make money.Ã,  The Terminator story was over in part 2, part 3 made the efforts of Sarah Connor completely meaningless.Ã,  And adding non stop humor into the movie didn't help either.

Anyway, I believe I enjoy Judgement Day is best, because of the special effects, action sequences and overall mood.Ã,  The first one is very close, Michael Bein's [Reese] performance was really good.

Let the flaming commence eh? :P

It's interesting how throughout the 3 movies, two main hypotheses are put forward and supported by solid examples. On one hand it says "there is no fate" but on the other hand (in an almost Greek mythology style) it says "fate cannot be changed, only delayed", particularly when the bombs fall in T3. It all comes down to what you believe, either you believe we all puppets without any control of our lives OR you believe that we have complete control (hopefully). Even better yet, somewhere in between the two, EG we have some choice and some fate, who knows. This is just one of the questions I ponder on the long highway of life. Please don't flame me. :)

The first one was ok but in the second one her breasts looked firmer to me... Wait... What?

I'm going with the original ...

Now let me give my reasons:

- Arnold wasn't a big name yet
- Nobody knew who Michael Biehn or Linda Hamilton were
- James Cameron was coming off the success of Piranna II

... in short, it was a GREAT script with a lot of potential given to a group of nobodies who really wanted it to be good!  The movie wasn't being made to showcase big hollywood stars ... it was made to tell a great story, and that it did.

It was gritty and dark.  Michael Biehn so perfectly captured the role of Reese and really shined in the movie.  The police interrogation scenes, "That's what he does ... that's ALL he does!" were just awesome!

T2 was a great movie with GREAT special effects and was a good continuation of the story.  I liked the transformation of Sarah Connor into a 'machine' dedicated to stopping judgement day.  Edward Furlong was annoying as hell, but it didn't really take away from the movie.

T3 ... well ... it was just shit in my opinion.  It seemed to me like they just wanted to make another money maker and, as a result, screwed up the timeline.  I loved seeing the start of it all, the 'Rise of the Machines', but I wish it would have kept with the original timeline ... it would have made more sense to me.  I did like the ending, though I predicted it easily enough.

Truthfully I think my biggest gripe with T3 was that Cameron didn't direct ... and as a result it just didn't feel like a Terminator movie to me.  Nick Stahl did a good job with John Connor I felt.

Hmmm, definitely one or two (Only seen the third one once, which was the week it came out.  Never EVER want to see it again).

The first one is quite amazing, with Michael Biehn's "He will not stop, EVER, until you are dead!" speech really standing out as one of the best parts in the movie.

The second one is also an amazing continuation of the story, with special effects that, with the exception of two shots (First time the T-1000's bullet "holes" fix themselves, and when Arnie rolls off the liquid nitrogen truck), still look flawless today.

It's a hard tossup. I love the first two both very much.

2, because it was made during the time I really liked that films that now I call "focused for teenagers". If I'd seen the three ones at the same time (well... all in a row, ok?  ;)) , I'd probably go for the first one,but I must say 2 because of the reminds that the second brings to me.

And Walshy, I usually hate this "What is your favourite...?" threads, but this time IMO your first post has been developed enough for making the experiece enjoyable. Thanks for not just "dropping the bomb and leave", and explaining something about why you posted about it.

Definitely the original Terminator.  A classic movie in my opinion.

I first saw the movie back in 1984 when i was only 11 years old and it really scared the **** out of me.  It just left this really uneasy feeling inside me and I was really terrified of the Terminator.  Plus, that Terminator music is probably one of the best soundtrack pieces i have ever heard.  Like Darth Mandarb said about Arnold being really unknown at the time,  every movie after that I always thought he was the Terminator still.

Plus the sex scene with Reese (was that his name) and Sarah Connor was damn good too.  :)

I enjoyed T2 and T3, but not as much as the first.

If someone finished off the series with an excellent T4, I imagine T3 would look quite a bit better. T3 suffers because the story it tells is generally much less ambitious - it feels to me more like a good transitional episode then a truly satisfying stand alone film, and because of that it's always going to lose out in comparison to the first two.

I don't really get how anyone who loves Terminator 2 could truly hate 3 (aside from the gripes from happy-ending lovers). As far as I can tell, a good number of the complaints leveled at 3 equally apply to 2, and 3 at least has none of 2's cornball sentimentality. I see it as a pretty good film, whereas I see 1 and 2 as pretty great films.

I admit I'm not head-over-heels for any of them, though.

2, always. 1 is still a great film, but 2 just hit the right note, for me. I usually hate sequels, but this is one of the few I think kicks the ass of the original. It was one of the first movies I got on dvd. There are so, so many classic movie moments in this one, more than the first, I thought.

I've never seen 3 and I don't think I ever will. Even the ad for it annoyed me.

I actually liked the third film. I thought it was a nice addition.

Spoiler
When the guy is talking to Claire Daines about trauma in his life, and then Arnold comes around the corner and starts blasting things in the graveyard, oh, i loved the little joke.
[close]

I agree, though, that a fourth film may actually help the third one. But it would have to be a marvelous film. I wouldn't know how to top the villian of the third.. but I didn't know how they could top the villian of the second.

I could see two sides to a new type of villian
a) it wouldn't feel so old and hashed
b)it would allow for more dazzling effects
c) it would seem to not fit with the timeline, the more advanced weaponry that we come up against.Ã,  If it existed in the future, why not of sent that back before, instead of Arnold. They answered that nicely in T3.

I'll stop. T3, I went in not expecting much, which I got a lot out of it. I'm sure there were a lot of dissapointed people that wanted more. I know soooo many people dissapointed with Matrix3

T2: Judgment Day, yes.
It was pretty cool one, and best IMO.

The storyline and scenery changed enough not to make whole thing dull (unlike many other sci-fi movies where all bets are on particular sci-fi fantasy/idea and when first wow!-effect is over, whole movie is only made to fit remaining time until "teH final battle"... Matrix anyone? The Cube? Aliens? sequels to them? bah.).

Plus, there was this crazy woman and stupid kid :D
And very neat effects for this time period... where "half of movie made with 3D graphics-standard" wasn't so common...

And - of course - a minigun. Woo!

First one was best in my opinion (third was crap and the second was okay).

That was my favorite part of the movie. The rest I thought was severly lacking. For example, what EXACTLY was the new Terminator in that one? I mean, I'm guessing she was just like the T-1000, but could make complex machines, whereas the T-1000 could not. But the thing is, the movie never explained this.

It just didn't feel as polished as the other two, in my opinion.

Terminator Two was a masterpiece of Sci-Fi action cinema.  Terminator 1 was a brilliant low-budget sci-fi horror action flick as well.  T2 had the budget to make it large and grandiose of scope, yet it still had Cameron's vision and human sensibilty.

T3 was a gigantic pile of moose-shit.  Really - as far as Terminator flicks go - it sucked.  Bad.  If it wasn't a Terminator movie, I might consider it a decent shoot-em up actions flick.  But that movie lacked the humanity of the other films.  I didn't care for it as part of the cannon of the series.  Cameron ended it at two... it should have stayed there.

I liked everyone, but T2 is my favourite. With the ZZTop and the Cool Shades and with the shotgun and the blueberry muffin and  the drinking of the tea etc...

Terminator 3D was pretty cool,  I thought, but you had to go to a Theme Park to experience it.

I too enjoyed the terminator 3d  and live action show.   It starts off by you taking a tour of that evil corp. and then the real sarah connor busts through a ceiling tile on a repel rope and tells us all to get the hell out of there. Then security comes in, and she gets away, or something, then they say pardon the interruption, please procede to see our latest technologies.

The villian in that was a step up from the liquid metal T-1000. Larger.  But no personality like the real T1000. Anywho... Some guy rolls on stage on a motorcycle, it was the real Arnold, and the real fake kid from T2, and they all battled this 3d monster, and it rocked.
Then when you left you could look at movie memorobila just like a Planet Hollywood before it went bankrupt.

But not remembering much from the movies when I went, I felt that it fit in nicely with the timeline, also, but I could be wrong.

I liked Terminator 1 best, as I love the horror/action which was perfect.  But T2 seemed focused on action, but it was still grand.  T3 was ok, but didn't leave much of a lasting impression on me, I agree with previous posts that it just made the previous films climatic endings pretty pointless.

T2 is the best film, but T3 has the best ending. I'm a sucker for negative endings, I'm afraid.

T2 was my favourite. For most of the reasons Darth said. I dunno, I just like movies that follow the idea of someone doing their best against insurmountable odds, to the limit that they succeed. I liked T1 as well, I guess, and T3 was ok, but it didn't have Sarah Connor.
