Ok, lo_res_man said something that made me go and read my first AGS posts :o
I was sorta shocked at the bad grammar, spelling mistakes and over all attitude. So I thought it would be quite a laugh if everybody posted there first AGS post.
Though my first is by far not my worst, (Shamefully) I think you can also add what you think to be your worst post.

Edit : Ok I would now like to apologize to all the ppl that I was a complete ass to. I really can't believe I wrote those posts. I am just glad that eventually it sort of started getting better, anyway this was a rude awakening.
Most interesting!
I see nothing wrong with you post Afflikt to be honest! Maybe you were a bit younger!...
In my case:
Quote from: nikolasiderisHi!
I just registered with AGS.
Cheesy
I do own a computer twenty years now (started off with an AMSTRAD 1512!) and I really like old games.
Anyway I'm 28 years old, and I'm a composer. I'm curentely doing my PhD in Birmingham. I was thinking that I should have some kind of portfolio for my careers shake, but I really hated the idea of doing some music for a movie, or a movie clip, or an ad, stolen from the net.
So here I am. I'm looking for people who are devoloping games (ADventures or RPG, even better) and would like to have some original music on their games.
If anyone is interested I will post some sample music later on...
Cheers...

Look at what Don told me.
I'll be honest! I came here because of Kinokos "cirque de Zale" (she knows that one too many times). And stayed here because of Don the Barbarian! His attitude seemd to me just wonderful!
AGS boards are still my homepage when I open firefox!
I do recall somewhere along the way that I was taken too seriously everything, and I got a PM from Vince XII: "We are all friends in here. Relax". And I did (sort of anyways...)
Another friend to add...
And then at one day I opened MSN to see if I had any e-mails, because I had 2 contacts in all, and there poped a window "farlander (can't recall his e-mail) want's to add you in his contantacs)!!!!!!! I went berserk!
I don't think I can every stop being a noob... I'm 30 :- But at least I have more than 2 years in here, and counting, and don't see myself leaving anytime soon. :D

Quote from: ildu on Sun 13/03/2005 14:07:40I have the same problem. I'm making a 32 bit game and I have a very hi-res char (even high enough for posters and promotion wallpapers :D). I have the char downsampled to the right size and I have it a layer that uses transparency. When I import the sprite, it doesn't acknowledge the transparency at all and gives a horrific result. Until now I've settled to giving the char black edges and having him only jagged on the edges. This thread is giving me hope. Is it really possible?

This question is directed to people who have completed a game or have fully planned a game
I'm in the stage of development for my game, where I need to plan the structure of my story and interactions within it. I have the locations down, and I'm trying to plan basically the whole gameplay from the beginning to the end. I've started with a plan and I'm at the very beginning of it. However, I'm stuck as I don't know if some events/objects/characters are final yet. So far I have a rough intro script done and a few lines for picking up objects.
How do you people go about planning events and interactions? Just to clarify, I'm talking about what happens first, what the player should pick up or use for some event to become available.
To further clarify (as I'm finding this extremely difficult to explain) here's a model of the plan I'm talking about:
//Game starts
//Cutscene
Policeman is talking to player
//Gameplay
Player picks up cassette tape
Player picks up piece of chalk
Player gives cassette and chalk to policeman
-> A new area becomes available on the map.
Player leaves area
//Cutscene
Player drives to new area
//Gameplay
Player talks to woman
...etc.

Coincidentally I'm still at the same stage of development with numerous projects :D.
It seems nothing has changed in 2 years :). One thing I noticed though was that 3/4 of my posts are crits given in the lounge.
I couldn't find my first post after a brief search through some archives, but I remember my profile saying that my first post was in the end of June 2001.
I also know that it was the announcement of my first game, Tulles World (an utterly crappy game). Yes, I released a game before I joined :)
Furthermore, I distinctly remember that LasNaranjas was among the first who replied to my game's thread.
Strange how time flies. More than 6 years with AGS :)
Which reminds me, we ever gonna see Tulle's World 2? ;)
QuoteHello everybody. Im starting a new game here i'm kinda wanting some opinions about the game story, so i thought this was the right place to post this. (And btw i really need artists for the game! Not much experience needed.)
THE STORY:
Our hero has just managed to get away from a bunch of bloodthirsty zombies by getting into an abandoned house in the middle of nowhere. Our hero (Named Jack btw) manages to get down a hatch in the floor in this building and by using an all-armored bat mobile-ish car getting as far as possible from the zombies as possible he starts his quest trying to find the source of the horrible plague that has ruined almost all of mankind and trying to find something to stop the zombies.
Plz say your opinion about the story-
Here's mine. I don't think the post is too bad in itself though. Most because of me tlkng liek dis plx.
I can't find my first post, but I know that I was young (about 9 years old) and ignorant, and had really bad grammar. It had to do with a game called 8 RuLeZ_ lol.
R4L: If you're 16 now, then it must've been 1999-2000 when you joined. When was AGS created?

I'm new to AGS and I downloaded a Monkey Island 2 gui @ http://www.juncmodule.com/juncSource.html, and now, when I try to test my game, or save it, I get an error saying that:
There was an error compiling your script the problem was in 'Main script':
Error (line 65): Undefined token 'SetMode'
I'm new to this type of scripting, and as I didn't write any of it, I have no idea what to do.
here's lines 64 - 74, like I said, I have no clue what I'm doing, but I hope this is enough for some help...
/**/ if (interface == MAINGUI) {
if (button == 0) SetMode("give");
if (button == 1) SetMode("pick up");
if (button == 2) SetMode("use");
if (button == 3) SetMode("open");
if (button == 4) SetMode("look at");
if (button == 5) SetMode("push");
if (button == 6) SetMode("close");
if (button == 7) SetMode("talk to");
if (button == 8) SetMode("pull");
/**/ if ((button == 10) && (game.top_inv_item < game.num_inv_items - (game.num_inv_displayed-1)))
EDIT: I checked the site, and according to that site, the gui I'm using IS Proskrito's, however, I still have NO idea what's causing the error. I'm going through the tutorial, and playing around with AGS itself, but unless I can find a scripting tutorial, I don't think I'm going to get anywhere anytime soon...
:P
P.S. Turns out the problem was that I actually exported the GUI instead of using the template. ;)
P.S.S. 103 pages of me talking...not too shabby.
My first post was on March 19, 2003 ...
It was [typical] n00b post in the GiP announcing a long lost title some of you old-timers 'round here might recall titled, "Star Wars - Rebel Spy" I did have some stuff to show ... but it doesn't meet the current rules (of course, back then there weren't the rules there are today and it was allowed).
My worst post ...
WAY too many to pick one from. I was a bit confrontational when I first showed up here. Had to learn [the hard way] how to use my sarcastic nature.
PS
Should anybody actually post a quote to an old thread in the GiP and you should happen to click on it ... be ABSOLUTELY sure you don't post in it (dig it up) ... or I will kill you.
He will.
I am currently dead for a similar crime.
My first post was an embarrasing one announcing my first ron game. Do not play it or dig it up.
My posts seem to go back to May 2005, and my first post is some screens from an early version of "Wound" in the CL. ::)
As for my worst post, well I've lost count of the number of times I've posted in an arse-esque manner.
So one of those, I guess.
I
think this is my first post, I made it on the date I registered.
QuoteI don't know what game you're trying to get costumes for, but for arguments sake, lets say it's Monkey Island 2.
The Directx versions don't generally work, so use the dos one.
1)Put the disk in the drive.
2)Open up 'My Computer' icon, or whatever icon on your pc that has info on all the drives.
3)Open M drive, where m is your cd drive.
4)You'll see 2 files. [Monkey1] and [Monkey2] and some other stuff which is irrelevent.
5) Open the monkey2 folder, and you'll see 2 files,
Monkey.000 and Monkey.001. These are resource files. You'll need to remember what these are if you use ScummRev.
6)In a seperate window, open Costrip, then the dos version, so the {Dos} file is open and you see the program icon.
7)Drag the Monkey.001 resource file onto the costrip icon, and voila.
8)The controls are listed.

There you have it. It was right after Rob Blanc one was released! :o
Wow, I was 9 years old around 1993, which just happened to be the year that DOTT and S&M:HtR were released. It was also the year my brother and I got both of those games. And I can honestly say if it weren't for those games, I most likely would never have gotten interested in games and I wouldn't be an artist today.
I can only imagine what it would have been like to get the means to create a game of my own at that age. Wow, if I had started back then, I might actually have a game done by now :D.
I'd be curious if anybody has a copy of my first post.
All that ezboard stuff is long gone. Worst? I was real mean to a few people and took a break for a while. Can't even remember what it was about. Someone posted a thread I wasn't real fond of. I made too big a deal out of it. It was sort of uncharacteristic of me at the time. Blah blah blah.
I don't remember your very first post, Evenwolf, but I remember when you first appeared here, and I think you made a very good first impression.
I believe you joined just shortly after AGA and Darkstalkey, and you managed to balance out their bastardness.
My First post no longer exists but it was for the release of the demo of my first game, which I'd completed, but spent a few weeks doing new backgrounds before the release a few weeks later.

Edit: just had a flashback of some post I made when drunk that was actually deleted not even just locked.
I remember looking the next day to see what I'd actually written and it was gone, and I'm pretty sure it's rare that any post is actually deleted, it must have been offensive or illegible, probably glad it's not there for people to see

Nah, just kidding but that was Manic Matt first post. He even dared to put some screenshots. It took me a year to get a good hosting site.
My first post & thread on the AGS Forums was asking for free Midi files? It was so lame, but i was very nervous after registering. I am sure glad that thread is no longer available. I even posted it in the wrong forum and TerranRich moved it. That is when he had that evil Star Trek character for an avatar, and i was afraid, so afraid. :)
My worst post was something along the lines of me posting ting, ting, ting in a thread and CJ locked it about 2 replies later.
Yeah but that was a classic thread Domino! I still find it funny!

My first post:
Quote from: voh on Fri 18/06/2004 16:15:23
It's a good game, definately. I liked the humour, but there are some issues I wish to mention, simply because I can.
- The insides of buildings shouldn't have rastered colours. Why? Don't know exactly, but it doesn't look good. The rest of the graphics are definately above average, but those rasters were... A breach, to say the least.
- The second part, on the island, seems to have been rushed and was a bit too short. It was a shame that it was so easy to find the martini glass, hat and umbrella. Even though I liked the fact that Zale said "this is going to be difficult" and then proved to be actually easier than finding a sock on your foot, he didn't respond as... satisfying as I would've liked.
But then again, I'm a naggy old bastard, who happens to be from Europe, and not regarding my patriot feelings, the Zurope joke was a cheap shot :)
I can't say any of my posts are 'worst post' material, because I'm consistently sensible and polite.
Really. :=

Can't seem to find it (mainly cause I didn't search that hard really), when I decided for some stupid reason (trying to be a joke) to take the nick of helm! *slaps forehead
There you have it. not my first post, certainly not my worst, but it's as far back as it goes
I can't find my first post, so I'm not sure if it still exists. I think it was an entry in a Sprite Jam four years ago. The topic was 'Worst Job in the World' and I drew the guy who has to sharpen the tops of mountains with a pencil sharpener. It wasn't even really a sprite, but I think I won.
Of course those were the days when AGS was a welcoming community that left its back doors unlocked and always said good morning to its elderly neighbours.
I look at a lot of my old posts and ask myself, "What the fuck was wrong with me?"
But, I suppose my absolute worst post(s) would have to be:
1. the time I flipped out in a discussion about MTV, by posting some really nasty racial slurs about rappers.
2. the time I flipped out and called Wanderlady a sheep, because he didn't like people referring to CJ as Jesus/God, etc.
As far as my very first post, I couldn't even tell you what it was about.
My first post was about a game called Moose Rage. I thought it was a cute, unpolished gem that didn't get too much recognition.
Nothing special about it, though. But my command of the english language was still nearly non-existant.
I don't think I ever did a truly terrible post.
But there are two which I think are interesting.
My answer to the april joke game "Hero of Infamous Kingdoms":
Quote
The game is kinda funny.
I like the voice of the old man, oh and just the simplicity and pure sillyness, still, I don't know exactly what to think of it. I expected more seeing that you put all the projects together, doesn't look like you did much in that time before, it's a bit disappointing, I mean, how eager were we for the release of that games, looked at this pretty screenshots, thought of the times back than when the real Sierra, before Chainsaw Whateverday, was still alive and hoped for some pretty good adventures.
So it's kind of a letdown, you have to understand, it's not that what we expected, and I think it was a terrible mistake to stop the projects! I mean, all give up just to put it together to an above-average game? Is this really how it was meant to be? Is this really all?
Was really everyone for this idea? I can't imagine that all members of the teams liked that plan? Did just the project leaders voices count or what? It's a bit unfair when you think of it that the work you spended your many countless hours on in your spare time after work is wasted on something different you wanted it for....
It's hard to understand what you did all the time when I see this...
Especially the Hero6 project, I mean, all the years? :P ::)
I think you will get many whining mails because of this decision from disappointed adventure fans... ;)
Oh, by the way, I found a bug! Would you fix it? ;)
I'm amazed that this post was pretty amusing for my proportions!
I got a PM from someone who misunderstood this answer, though.
Oh, and then there is this "what was I thinking?"-post:
Quote
Man, she just kissed him.
I think that's not so hard to read out, he loved the kiss, because that's all what it was about, right?
He never kissed a girl before so assume they didn't fuck directly.
It may be false but I don't think so.
Of course, I know how it is, even if you know that, you're pretty sure, there is a small chance it can be still different otherwise.
I think I start to talk about total different things....
It's not that bad, but it doesn't feel like me. The last sentence was certainly a heavy-handed way for saying "I digress..."
Oh, and a noobish question here and there is quite natural, of course. :)

I don't know what has been my worst post. I browsed them all through and all of them seemed pretty sensible to me, even the ones I made while intoxicated. Maybe this is my worst post then ;)

Help me out! Is it me lacking English skills, or just because I'm plain stupid.
Here's the problem: I just finished drawing this very nice looking creature with mspaint. Then as I tried to import it, it turned out too big, then after some setup, too small, and the best for last: then it went all muddy and unclear, you know what I mean...
Myself, I'm quite convinced I'm supposed to draw a picture size 20x20, but then again, what about Roger? He's merely like 20x50, (or was it the other way around). And if I was to settle with them 20x20, how am I supposed to draw a CHARACTER? You know.. one with those two eyes, WHICH I CANT FIT IN HIS HEAD!! ??? ???
Must be one of my first ones. At least it's one of the silliest ones. I was to find out, that you can readjust the cursor with the right button of the mouse ::). My worst one must be too bad to be published again.
http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=20196.msg246160#msg246160 was also fun. I was going to start scripting, but didn't know where to write my scripts that I had in notepad :D
