I know some of you guys are trying to learn Blender, and it's hard because of the outdated recourses. Now the new guide has been placed online by the BF (Blender Foundation) for anyone to download, server costs paid by book sales.

I hope this will encourage more to learn Blender.. I'm going to enter the next MAGS contest to make a tutorial using Blender's toon shading, I've decided. Finals are next week, after which I will have ample free time.

EDIT:

I've been reading through this a bit, and the manual is really good and most importantly, COMPLETE. I have a PDF, it's 32 mb though.. I suppose if you wanted to print it this would be more useful, if you were willing to do all 558 pages.

If you know nothing about Blender, this explains everything from beginning to end.
Once I killed a man. His name was Mario, I think. His brother Luigi was upset at first, but adamant to continue on the adventure that they started together.

Evil

Yeah, even so a friend of mine loves blender and got it at the local library. But thanks for the link. :)

I don't know if I understand you correctly.. the Blender book is at your local library? That's a new one to me..

Evil

Yeah, he got it from our library. Heh, he keeps Blender on his flash drive and models in class.

They have the old Blender book.. But it's never there..

Anyways.. Where can I find this PDF file? I hate looking at HTML manuals.

I've been using Wings3D and I made a doghouse from the manual tutorial in about 30 minutes. Once I figured out how to work the camera, it was easy as pie!

This definately rocks...because, as you said, much of the stuff out there is outdated and refers to shortcuts and things in previous versions....I too would like a big fancy pdf version....

Look in the root directory, it's the bottom file labelled "BlenderManualIen.23.pdf.zip" you can only see part of the name though, so hover over it and look at the status bar for the full name.

I don't really know if we're supposed to be downloading it though, they sell some PDF's online.. but if they're ignorant enough to put it in the root directory of the publicized free html version..?

It's a 32 mb file, btw, so don't go after it if you have a slow connection.

EDIT:

Download with no moral qualms, it's not in the E-shop and neither is the 2.88 guide (also available there). Plus, they mention it in the news section so I don't think it's against the rules.

Blender 2.3 Manual Volume 1 - PDF (zipped) 32 megabytes

I should also mention Volume 2 is said to be "coming soon." I don't think anyone will finish up all 500+ pages before that happens though.

Because Shawn always has it :)

I checked both my University Library and Stillwater Public and got nothing.. I wonder why your library bought it.

The 2.28 Blender Guide is free too.. http://download.blender.org/documentation/BlenderManual228.pdf.zip

I don't know why anyone would want it though, it's just as large plus outdated.

The 2.0 guide sells at the e-shop, it's not available otherwise.. I would think it to be even more useless than 2.28.

Peter Thomas

woo-hoo!

now I have a reason to use Blender.

I've often thought about using it, and then gone "no. until there is a comprehensive tutorial at my fingertips, with easy accessability and it low-maintenance, I shall refrain."

now I can blenderize to my hearts content
