if you can' find the book just read all of the things in your inventory ALL OF THEM THAT YOU CAN READ! ALL OF THEM!! one after the other!!!
trilby will say he needs to find trilbys body! WOOHOO now you can make the detector!!!!

ohh, yeh after that look in the library!!! then you'll find a book to make the matthew detector!!

I have read all the readable item in my inventory (paper, DeFoe also 2 diaries) but Tribly doesn't still say that he must find Matthew's body...
must I read all the books as I obtain them??? or must I stand anywhare special to read them???

You will need to acquire and read the cutting Phil gave you, the newspaper from the foyer, a book on the DeFoe family from the library, Sir Roderick's diary from his wardrobe, and Matthew DeFoe's diary from the nightstand in the locked room. Once you have read them all, Trilby will say he needs to find Matthew's body. Search the library again and you'll find a book on white magic with details on a method you can use to
locate it.
