i think i should be doing something with the red herring, or is it truly a red herring?

Where did you find the red erring?

I went back to my last 'save' before the end of the game and the red erring was still there. So I guess you don't need it.
If I'm wrong, I hope someone else will tell us, but I don't think I'm wrong.
