Title: A Tale of Betrayal
Post by: Bee921 on Wed 29/09/2004 04:29:55
Just started this game. Has anyone got any hints for it? I'm stuck right after getting free and going up towards the deck.

Hello Bee921,

You are stuck in a very early stage!

Spoiler

Have you tried getting out through the window using the hooked rope -combine the hook and the rope in the inventory screen-!

If you tried that then our hero says that he's not risking hooking the rope to the ship's side unless he KNOWS what's happining on deck! And you have a mirror, gum and a stick! Why don't you see what's happening up there by youself!
[close]

Spoiler

To see what's happining above combine the gum and mirror, then combine the sticky mirror with the stick, then using that on the window!
[close]

I hope that helped!

AGS-GD,

I tried getting near those object and it pick them but simply can't

I presume I deal with the rope first. If so, then how?

If there are no need dealing with rope first then the program probably have bugs.

splat44,

Well, you should deal with the Rope and Barrel first ... That's why Act I is called "Get Off My Back ...", here is how:

Spoiler

If you noticed there is a scratch in the upper metal stripe, now make sure that you are facing the door to the side -so that your hand is close to the scratch- and use the Ring with the Barrel. -try it when you are facing the left side of the screen and you'll get a message saying you can't-

After scratching the metal stripe, make sure that you are facing the broken mirror and then Interact with the rope! -Hold your mouse over the rope and then click the hand icon- ...
[close]

Besides when trying to reach something that you can't reach and the game tells you "I can't reach that!" then it's not a program error.

If you get stuck again let me know!

I'm right at the end and I'm trying to get a happy ending... but poor Ali is stuck forever in the graveyard. :( Can you help rescue him?

I have the following items:
Spoiler

ring, pin, personal items, scroll that got Ali to the graveyard, feather, shovel, two letters, dragon and either Jimmy or Riggy's map.

I've tried sending the dragon off with Jimmy's map first, but Ali waited for ten years and then was forgotten. Then I tried with Riggy's map and he still waited ten years and again was forgotten. I haven't managed to do anything with the feather.

How can Ali be rescued?

Any help would be really appreciated! And it's a great game - though tough in places!

Edit: Thanks for the help with the spoiler tags. :)

Hi Vespr, I'm so glad you liked the game, could you please then review it in this page:

http://www.agsforums.com/games.php?category=6&action=newvote&page=1&game=453&actionwas=list

As for the happy ending! Well, I'm keeping it a secret for now, until someone finds it out!

But if you are desperate then check your PM  ;D.

I, too, am stuck at the end.

Spoiler
I stabbed Lucas Arse with the pin, and used the blood to write a letter to the Sultan. I attached the letter, map, and ring to the dragon, and I still lose after 10 years.

I've tried both maps, but both are fake. I was thinking maybe the mermaid has the real one, but I can't find anything else to do with her.
[close]

Not a bad game, though. I enjoyed playing it. I just wish I could figure out what to do to get the best ending.

Yeah, I think you make him face backwards, so you can see the back of the barrel, and then you go "use barrel" or something.

You need using ring on barrel while facing the right door.
Ring is in your inventory.

To remove rope, simple look at broken window or mirror and simply interact with rope.
(to look at thing put cursor on object and left-click). You will see coin with option.

I that help.

I just attached the map, the ring and the scroll to the dragon and he flew off. I hadn't written anything on the scroll to let the Sultan know of the plot... it just worked, so I figured I missed an explanation before for how the scroll would let the Sultan know what was going on.

You need using feather with blood on paper. Either ways you ends up in loosing.
But the reason question is how convince ena in giving map and I've all possible ways but not able. The other grave that have some writtings on stone which I couldn't figure out!

If there such winning ending, it very hidden!

Well, actually there is a happy ending :) I just want to know if any of you could find it before posting it ...

Spoiler

Hint 1: Did you read Tom's diary -Tom is the one who made the map-!

Spoiler

Hint 2: There are some hidden hotspots! (A place which you can interact with while nothing would appear at the bottom of the screen to show it's name)-!

Hint3: If hints didn't help, and you really wanna see the happy end, send me a PM :)

As for the bug which -thanks God- doesn't stop you from winning the game:
Spoiler

I'll be fixing that in the next update of the game! It's matter of checking if you have written the letter before comining it with the Dragon that I seemed to miss when I beta-tested the game after working on it for 77 hours in a row!

I am stuck - it seems like others as well - in the graveyard. I've noticed Tom's remarks that R. and J. are mentioned in more than one place... I can't discover any hidden hotspots, and to be honest I am already tired of random clicking.
It is perhaps early for a walkthrough, but please can't you give a direction how to proceed.

Hi Yvonne,

Assuming that the email you entered when you posted is correct (y1101@lycos.com), I've sent you an email with the solution :)

I'm glad you played the game 'till the end.

Just a small comment, why do I hear people saying they are STUCk! you are not stuck, you just didn't get to the happy end, still you did actually finish the game :) so you are not stuck, you just didn't get to the happy end.

Thanks again for your interest in the game, I hope you liked it. :)

hamish20 ...

Spoiler

Have you tried to pick up the shovel! If not then pick it up and use it for digging out other graves!-Ã,  If you have already did that then read next ...

Spoiler

In each one of the graves you'll find some important object or fact that you can use in order to let the Sultan know that someone will try to kill him soon.

Start out by diggin Marlyin Monroe grave, you'll notice that the player will say that it is hot -of course ;)-, now since you need the egg to hatch to be able to send a message with the dragon to the king, put the egg into her grave, the egg withh hatch! Now in your inventory look at the Dragon and this will tell you what you need to be doing in order to prepare the message to the Sultan.

How did you do it? I've been trying for ages.

Spoiler
I thought maybe when it said Tom was overlooking the whole place he was up on that ledge where you start off after teleporting, and the map was somewhere around there but I couldn't seem to find it. I checked for hidden hotspots everywhere. Do the hidden hotspots respond to all modes used on them? Also, if you try to do something to the bottom of the graveyard screen, the verb coin thing doesn't pop up. Is this a bug or something?

SHE DEVIL,

Here is how you do it:

Spoiler

After making the scratch with the ring you need to be facing the broken mirror in the back of the room so that the rope is exactly centered at the scratch, an easy appoach for doing so -facing the mirror- is by TALKING to the broken mirror, as doing so will make the hero face the back of the room. Then use the hand icon with the ROPE ...

Fribbi AGDI joker,

What problem do you excatly have? If you are talking about not being able to get to the happy end then that is NOT a problem, it's just that you were not able to solve the final puzzle ... yet you solved the whole game.

Check your PM so that you have the alternate ending :)

I didn't exactly do it on my own though. I had a whole bunch of hints throughout the game, like

And how come someone doesn't just post the solution here, instead of people having to keep PMing ASG-GD?

Post by: AGS-GD on Sat 02/10/2004 22:27:17
Alright people here it is, the logical steps that would lead to the solution of the final puzzle -so that one can see the alternate "happy" end-.

Spoiler

(Talk to Ena)
Ask her about the way out of here, she'll tell you that Steve Winter
once said something about a map

(Dig Steve Winter Grave)
When you read Steve's diary it'll say something about knowing a friend
that once held a map to this place and didn't trust people, it says
that his initials were T.O.

(Dig Tom O. Grave)
When you read Tom's diary it'll say something about his two friends,
and it also say thatÃ,  "… once when overseeing the whole place"
Tom decided to keep his secret for himself.

IMPORTANT NOTE: There is a small bug in the game which will be fixed in the next update, so before proceeding to find the working map you should have at least one of the fake maps. Take on by digging Riggy Rig Suffer grave or Jimmy the Shnug grave.

Now, where is the place that oversees the whole area! It's the small
area in which you have landed at the beginning of ACT3
, go there -by
going back through the mountains path-, and dig the edges of that area
[[/b]](near the left upper corner of that area)[/b], after a few clicks
you'll find the map … Congratulations!

Title: Re: A Tale of Betrayal

BorisZ: and how is that!

Spoiler

Tom's diary clearly says: "… once when overseeing the whole place"
Tom decided to keep his secret for himself.

It's really an act of logic to go to the ONLY place that is actually an oversee cliff and dig it a few times. Besides the words written above aren't part of a thousand books page, they are there clearly to give the player a hint.

Now guessing is what anybody who's out of clues and can't find any logical link would do. Maybe that puzzle was hard for some, but I know many who enjoyed it and ones that solved it.

Also if you can't solve this puzzle then nobody is asking you to, you still can finish the game and live with Ena happily ever after. -I would enjoy that for sure-
[close]

So if you think that to get to the alternate ending you need 'guessing' then read the spoiler above again.

BorisZ, good luck in your October MAGS entry, I hope that you win this time.

Tina,

Here is how you do it -I liked the idea about stabbing him in the arse though-

Spoiler

Throwing the Applear on Shnigle won't work because Shnigle would come down and check for you, and you'll end up tied again once he catches you.

To capture Shnigle, go back to the storage room using the window. The Ladder is the only way down to this area, and Shnigle will use the Ladder if he is going to go down and search for you, why don't you make a little trap for him. USE the Knot that is located at the right side of the Ladder â€"it's small so try hard to find it- our hero will tell you that it's so tight that you can't loosen or cut it with you bare hands. USE the Sticky Mirror with the Knot to cut the Knot. Now that the ladder is trapped go back to ship's side and at the right time THROW the Applear on Shnigle. Watch the nice cut-scene.

It's either I'm too stupid or the game has bugs ... problem is I don't know how to interact with anything ... the only thing I can do is open my inventory via Tab or the right-click.

Kediri, here goes:

Spoiler

(Writing the warning letter to the Sultan)

You have a feather and a Scrap Of Paper but you are out of ink, and so you can't write a letter unless you find some sort of liquid that would work as ink! Have you looked closely at the Scrap Of Paper you found in the enchanted chest! It looks like it's written in blood.

There is an open grave in the Land of the Wicked Shrines, and that is the Lucas Arse one, which implies that the body is still fresh! USE the Pin with Lucas Arse, and you'll get some blood out of his body, USE the Feather with Lucas Arse blood filled body and you'll make it full of blood, in the inventory screen USE the Feather with Scrap Of Paper to write a warning letter to the Sultan in blood.

Alla, When clicking over an object or anything hold down the mouse button, don't just click once, keep holding down the mouse button until the coin interface shows up ... Then you'll see three symbols inside of a coin shape:

- The Hand: Use it to Interact/Pickup objects or items or hotspots.
- The Mouth: Use it to Talk/Listen objects or items or hotspots.
- The Eye: Use it to Look At objects or items or hotspots.

As for the solution of the first puzzle (ACT 1) here goes:

Spoiler

(Getting the barrel off your back)

If you look at the barrel you'll notice that there is a small scratch in the upper metal stripe, yet it's not sharp enough to cut the rope. Looking at the inventory you have a ring, now face the door to the right and then USE the Ring with the Barrel.

It's time now to cut the rope using the scratch that you made, so face the Broken Mirror â€"a quick way for doing that is TALKING to the Broken Mirror-, once facing it USE the Rope.

Have good time playing through the rest of the game,

It's called a verbcoin, place your mouse over an area then hold down your button and choose the action you want.

Yeayy, I got the happy ending! I needed the hints about the hidden hotspots, and goot confirmed my suspicions that it was up near the top.

Awesome game there haha!

Very tricky, makes it feel very rewarding to have solved it!
