I exhausted all the dialog options with Ollie, and I have the t-shirt. But whenever I try to give it to him I keep getting a message that says "I don't think he would want that". How do I get around this?

Allright, I think this (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=22461.0) is what has happened. So, eighter go back to a previous saved game or leave it. There's no need to give it anyway...
I've already solved a good amount of puzzles-- and I did have the quill already; I already traded in the postcard for the rum. I can't get into the mansion nor is any NPC telling me why I should get in there.

does need the shirt...I solved this game some time ago and remember

You have to use the diving suit to reach the dragon's lair, and the lemon to make the grog is past the gate
Just a tad rusty as to how you got in the gate!
You have to talk around and find out who lives in the mansion before you can bribe your way in.
