Just downloaded this game and it's great. Unfortunately I'm stuck.
How do I get the pencil quill from the highwaywoman. The Foolkiller told me that she doesn't like clowns. Do I need the inflatable clown from the foolkiller's tent? If yes, How do I get it?

I have just found how to get the awning down using the bird.
I too saw a blond face behind the bushes near the tent but did not see it again and could not interact with it.
Now you talk about a monster's lair ???Ã, How did you know about the lair ???Ã, I have not seen any mention of that so far. :-[

I'm aso stuck on the pen. You can see the clown has something to do with something but I don't know how to get it. It's an absolutely fantastic game though.

When I enter the tower, I immediately go to the second floor. I guess I should somehow use the "laundry chute", so I can access the closet. But how?

The person behind the bushes is behing the bush to the left of the bush that you get the lemon from outside the mansion. You see him once, you never see him again. Well, I haven't yet.

This hiding guy can be seen behind a bush, when you enter the scene in Lorenzo's mansion (the fish dealer). I saw it once, and its the same guy the designer uses as avatar I thnik.

So far, the only way I've found of getting the pen is to put it on the desk, and wait for the patrolman to come by and harass her. If you've talked Foolkiller into avenging her already, then he ceases to show up, and it seems impossible to obtain the pen.Ã, Therefore, it would seem that if you do not obtain the pen before putting the patrolman out of business, then you might not be able to get it at all. I've not found any other way to get the pen, so it could be.

Ok, I've gotten rid of the rats. That's one thing. Now the races and the golem.
- Ok, for the races, I need to get the Master's book from the dragon. But Pib won't dive anymore. So I have no idea.
- I also need the quill to get the centaur to sign the autograph. But it looks like no one knows how to get it yet, so...
- The golem: I have all the ingredients, except the fire. I have the lantern with the coal, but I have no idea how to light it.
Also, I saw the guy behind the bush too. But he appeared next to Foolkiller for me. I don't know why, maybe it's just random.
If anyone could help me, I'd appreciate it.

I finally solved the quill puzzle but i think most of the people who stuck right now would get mad if they know the truth.... I'd like to give out hints instead of solution.

The truth is: if you have passed the point where you got the uniform. You MUST RESTART the game. There is no way to take the guill after that.
Hints: THe highwaywoman keeps the quill all the time, right? How about to make that quill visiable?

Hmmm... that could be a design flaw. It is our intent that you can never get into an impossibly stuck.
Once you finish the game, be sure to replay it and beat the bonus puzzle. :)

You never have to go to the Oasis of a Thousand Tears in Apprentice 2. That hotspot on the map was put there as a bit of a joke.

Aw, damn. So I have to restart? Well, that's not fair. I spent a lot of trying to figure out this damn quill thing...No offense, this is a great game and I love it, but you have to make sure stuff like this can't happen. Oh well, gonna have to restart then...

You can actually get two quills to exist at the same time. Take one quill and put it on the table, then simply ask for another one. I thought for a while that this might've been a solution to the "dead man walking"-problem, but alas, it wasn't... (Could be turned into one though. ;) )
I'm getting quite pissed at this game now, as I replayed it from the beginning to solve the above problem. And when I had finally passed that point, and then some, I managed to get it to lock-up. :/ I haven't been able to reproduce that problem, altough I did encounter the "pocket"-crash.
I would appreciate some help with these problems:

Well, I restarted it, and beat it. And I also found the bonus puzzle, which I loved. It was a great game, restarting it was worth it.

For your information,
there's no need to restart over the quill thing. I'm pretty sure it's impossible to get the uniform or even meet the foolkiller if you haven't already taken the quill pen. If anyone has found otherwise, please let me know.
The bonus puzzle does not involve the wig room cutscene that occurs from the recruitment camp room. That was just an extra scene (which was kind of funny, but we probably should have left it out).

I do not know how to help the pencil maker in the stocks, i have the uniform-i assume i need to help him to get the charcoal he has. Also, how do i find out about the seamonsters lair-do i need to lift the race track curse first??
If you're using the first available version of App2, then you CAN get the uniform without getting the quill. I for one did so ::) and hence had to restart.
So any hint on the bonus puzzle?

Yep, that one is a "point of no return" before a revised version, which is promised by geoffkhan, comes out.

Have you exhausted all conversation with the gaurd? Pib has to know that the guard wants a shirt before he will give it to him.
I've made the conversation fast so i didn't follow it like the first time but now i cannot speak anymore with the swordman so i suppose i'd to know the sun problem.... ARG

Well, it looks like there's enough bugs -- I mean, not MANY, but that quill thing is quite annoying.
Also, about the crashes in the Navy Joe pocket game: I can't figure out what's wrong. I've played it over and over and I can't get it to crash. Maybe it's something to do with computer speed or something. :(

Finally I completed the game.... GREAT WORK GUYS!!!
There are some point to adjust and some small bugs but I hope you'll release a final review because this game needs to be 100% perfect since it's a masterpiece =)

I've already finished the rat puzzle, gotten the quill pen, freed the pencil maker, and dove for the first time. I think I may have missed it somewhere? Because for the life of me I cannot find a postcard.

Is the secret puzzle the getting a present for Jezelle one? If so, I did it!
I did that too. But that is way too small a thing - and not difficult at all - in order to be the bonus puzzle.
I got screwed by the quill thing too... But I can't figure out how to get past it anyway. I can't talk to the highwaywoman while she's distracted by the guard!

Yep! That's the key, try to setup something before she is distracted. She won't be distracted all the time leave and return again and eventually she will alone.

There is reference to it above in this thread. you'll be able to interact with something that earlier in the game it was impossible.
The lump of clay "smells kind of funny". Pib has to use "purest elements possible". There is mud on the track.
So - is it possible to get mud and use it for the golem instead of the not so pure clay?
I can't seem to make the golem. I've put all the ingredients in the cauldren but nothing happens. I know there are other instructions but the last half is in latin apparently.... Bugger.
The last half is in Latin because it's an incantation. You just use the scroll on the cauldron.

Talk to pirate. Try to get his potion. Try to get his bottles. Look at those before talking to him. Then he will mention the grog. Ask him how to make it. :)

You can NEVER get the quill while she is alone.
You can only get it while the soldier or whoever is there and they quarrel.
I completed the game but this might help you regarding the quill problem.
I noticed that as long as you have NOT talked to the Foolkiller and asked him to get rid of the annoying soldier, the soldier will leave and then return several times to hassle the highwaywoman. Thus, there are otehr opportunities to ask her for the quill and set it on the desk during those moments when the soldier is not there. Then you can keep entering and leaving the scene until you see them arguing again so you can steal the quill with no problem.

Did you get the bucket off of Seacookies foot? Something fell off the bucket that you can use to plug one of the vents on the stoves at the bakery. Work at opening the stove doors and letting rats run into the stove on the right. Plug up the vents on two or the stoves with objects in your inventory. Then go up on the roof and work with the stove pipes that are there.

I did manage to get the bucket off of Seacookies foot a long time ago, but my arrow never changes color when I pass it on the ground or on Seacookies. :'(
OK, nevermind. Heheheh, I fell for a red herring. I was thinking the mailbox was the key (since he said it had it's lucky number). It's not, by the way, just to give a little hint to others. ;D

I tried so often but never got anything from the bucket, it just changed automatically to 'TALK TO SEACOOKIES'.
Now I got that part from bucket and got rid of the rats ::)
I went back to track, gave lucky picture to Seacookies, tried to give coins to ticketman, but he says that I won't find any centaur to race. ???

I tried so many different things, that it is hard to remember the order I played. But, I believe you need to have conversations with the guy at the mansion or the master wizard about the curse before you can do the betting. Have you talked to the guy at the gate about his sunburn and him needing the t-shirt? And then have you gotten the t-shirt from the camp? Hang on to the "pinchers' because you will need them again at the camp.

Well that's how I got him to help me. He's on the gate, look at him, talk to him about everything. I'm not sure but you might have to talk to him a few times, until you see 'I need a favour from you' or something like that. :)

ok, missed that you already have released the pencil maker. At somepoint the rain will have stopped and then you can do the betting. When you put your uniform on at the camp, did a small round "spur" piece fall off? This is what you need to put on diving rig. Then you use the potion on yourself somewhere near the rig. This is where the "trojan horse" scene will happen. Then after this scene, you can talk to Jazelle about taking a test dive. I think you "use" on the diving suit to make this happen.

Have you gone to the racetrack and looked at the pegs and tried to get them first?.... then go back and try to talk to Lloyd
Ok, I've seen the sea monster.Ã, But where are the dragon and the valve?Ã, Also, when I give the postcard to Seacookie, he says that he can't sign a postcard of another centaur.Ã, I suppose this works itself out after the rain stops.Ã, But I can't get the rain to stop until I find where the sea monster went with the curse book.

Have you tried getting one of the other centaurs to sign the postcard? It sounds like you are ready to put on the diving suit for a dive if Jazelle says everything works now. When you are in the "room" with the dragon, there will be something to move to reveal the valve.

I have read earlier posts and no one has yet to actually give any hints regarding this, only questions such as mine, so can someone help me and the others PLEASE??? ???Also, someone mentioned a gift for the pirate girl, what is it?

There are two things wrong with the diving machine - it needs a new gear (NOT the piece from the bucket - you need to find something else) and the lever is stuck. If you talk to Jenelle she will usually let you know what she is missing to get the machine functioning properly. The pinchers and the other gear you took earlier also need to be replaced as well before you can dive.
I don't think it's possible to get into the mansion. I completed the game and found the bonus puzzle without having to enter the mansion at all.
I hope that helps.
This is a walkthrough for those of you who can't solve the game.
Rat puzzle:

Go the the docks and get the gear from the diving rig. Then, go to the bakery and stick the gear into the middle vent. Take the butter and enter the stables in the racing track. Use it on the bucket on Seacookie's leg. Then, find the bucket part on his left leg and take it. Go back to the bakery and use it on one of the vents. Make sure it isn't the stove with the rats. Use the stove with the rats and watch them leave the bakery.
Ok, the next one is wrong. I may have left something out or told you to do something in the wrong order, but this is a really complicated game. I hope you find what you need to advance into the game.
Racing track puzzle

Make sure you have the butter you got from the bakery and the mollassas. Enter the docks and go into the shipwreck. Try taking the potion on the shelves. William refuses so you have to talk to him and ask him about it. Finally, he'll tell you that he wants grog. Take the seawater next to him. Exit his place and take the pinchers off of the diving rig. Make sure that you replaced the gear if you took it.
Go to town and talk to the highway women. Exhaust all topics and ask to sign the petition again. Put the quill on her desk. Talk to Ollie and exhaust all topics. Go to the right of the bakery and free the bird with the pinchers. Make sure you use it on the cage, not on the bird. Go to the stables and look at the pegs. Go back into town and talk to the bird, which is next to Ollie. Ask the bird for a favor and it'll take down the awning in the stables for you.
Go to the castle place and watch the cutscene. Go back to town and keep exiting and entering untill you see the highway women arguing with the soldier. Take the quill from her desk. Find navy joe and talk to him. Play his game.
Remember that the first pocket he points to is the clue. Add 2 to the pocket number. If it is 8, the bear is in 1. If it is 9, the bear is in 2, etc.
Also ask him about the rum. He will give you a postcard to sign. Go to the stables and give it to the big centaurs to sign. Go back into town and give it to Navy Joe. Talk to the highwaywomen and ask her about the soldier that was arguing with her. She will tell you about Foolkiller. Enter the tent and talk to Foolkiller. Mention the highwaywomen and tell him that shes not fine (or something like that). Exit the tent and reenter it. Take the uniform.
Enter the castle thingy and double left click on the uniform in your inventory. Take a tshirt from the box and free the man in the stocks with the pinchers. You will be taken into town and the man will give you charcoal. Take the lanturn on the road and use the coal on the lantern. (Thats actually for the golem puzzle, but whatever.)
Go to town and give Ollie the shirt. Enter and get a lemon from a bush. Have a long conversation with the guy. Exhaust all topics. Use the tin cup on the fishbowl and use the lemon you acquired onto the mollassass seawater. Use navy joe's rum onto the seawater. YOu should have grog now. Go to the docks and give it to William. Take the potion. Go to the tower and talk to Master about the curse thingy. He should mention a cursebook. Go back to the docks and ask William about it.
Exit his place and use the butter onto the lever. Also use the gear, extra uniform part onto the diving rig. The thing should be fixed now and listen as the girl says something about a test dive. Talk to her and volunteer for it. Watch the cutscene with the dragon. When you wake up, ask the girl about the dragon. Use the potion now and you should wake up in a weird place. Talk to the things and find yourself in the well. Talk to the dragon and use the bookcase. Use the vent and eventually you'll get it. Take the curse book and go to the tower.
Enter and take the blue cup picture. Open the nightstand and take the coppers. Go to the track. Yay, the rain stopped! Enter the stable and give Seacookie the picture. Go back outside and give the guy the coppers. Sea cookie wins! Yay. Go back to the tower and give Master the mountain of silvers.
Golem puzzle

See above hint for how to get to the dragon's lair (the well). To get the clay, go to town and get the clay under the bird's cage. Get the lantern laying on the road. Rescue the pencil man (again see above) and use the coal he gave you onto the lantern. Enter the well and use the quill on the book wyrm. When he breaths fire, use the lantern onto the fire. You also need to get the bellow thingy, but I forgot where that is, sorry.
Go to your tower and use the clay into the cauldron. After that, use the lantern on it. Watch the small animation and add the water. Use the bellow thingy on the cauldron and use the golem scroll on the cauldron.

I am sure about the bonus puzzle since I played and completed the game already.Ã, I don't want to give a more specific hint since I think that most of the fun of bonus puzzles is discovering them yourself.

It may be one of those things that's so obvious you might not have actually done it, but have you actually "looked" at Ollie. When you look at him Pib comments about how his skin looks quite red. If you then talk to him, you'll notice that a new dialogue option opens up where you can ask him why he isn't wearing a shirt and you talk back and forth for a bit. You should then be able to give Ollie his shirt.

Have you talked to everyone else to figure out why you have to go to the mansion? I'm assuming you talked to all of the people at the racetrack, but have you talked to the wizard again about the races? He will play dumb and not provide any new info, but it may trigger something to let you go to the mansion and give the guy the t-shirt. Other than talking to all of the characters again, I can't think of anything else that I had to do in order to get into the mansion.
Just finished the game absolutly stunning. The clues are simple but yet arent. If you think about it closely but not to hard. The awnsers come...also if you use a walkthrough ;). Anyway i loved the game cant wait to see part 3

Actually, you don't even have to speak to Ollie about his colour or look at him (strangely enough!) . All you have to do is ask Simon (at the racetrack) about the curse (and eventually about the gangster). In order for that little tidbit to come up, you need to speak to the ticketmaster about the curse first.

Not a single character will give you any prompt. You might feel obliged to Jezelle for letting you take the test dive. And besides she is meant to be beautiful and "appealing". So, you might try to thank her properly by offering her something.

I fixed the quill pen bug, a few typos, and supposedly fixed the crash in the Navy Joe game.
I have totally completed the game now, hidden puzzle and all. This was by far one of the best AGS games ever, i cannot wait for the last installment of the trilogy!!!

you cannot complete the secret puzzle until you help someone finish building something and have completed your underwater tasks. It involves taking something you cannot take without completing the above tasks and could not take earlier in the game

Okay, this game is fantastic.. and I'm really enjoying it but I think I've encountered ANOTHER bug. This is my 3rd time attempting to play the game through. The first, I stupidly missed the pen and had to restart. The second was with the grog.. I mixed the molasses with the rum, and then that with the sea-water and somehow ended up with lemon rum water or whatever it was called. Of course, then when I got the lemon and tried to add it, it wouldn't let me because the game was under the impression that the lemon had already been added, but the molasses hadn't when it fact it was the other way round! So I restarted again. Now, I've done a bunch of new stuff from my previous game, added the lemon and molasses to the sea water.. but navy joe has VANISHED! I have the autograph to give him as I did in my previous game but he just won't appear. I've tried waiting there for ages, entering the bakery then coming back out, going back to the map then back in.. everything I can think of but he's just not appearing. Is this a bug? Do I have to restart the game AGAIN!?!?!
This is the first time I've seen anyone with that bug! Out of interest did you have the game saved before you added the ingredients to the seawater? Because it sounds like you might have triggered another bug :-\ Especially if you've done all that wondering around and he has turned up!
You could try going back to the ship and asking the pirate for the recipe again and then maybe looking at your mixture, or try giving it to the pirate and then back to the village. That may trigger Navy Joe into turning up. See, if that helps before restaring from your last save. By the way, remember the old adage - save often :)

I started from the beginning since I got the updated version of Apprentice 2 and I can't get the highway woman to tell me about Foolkiller. I don't remember having to do anything before. I've seen her talking to the soldier... Anyone got a hint?

William refuses so you have to talk to him and ask him about it. Finally, he'll tell you that he wants grog. Take the seawater next to him. Exit his place and take the pinchers off of the diving rig. Make sure that you replaced the gear if you took it.
Go to town and talk to the highway women. Exhaust all topics and ask to sign the petition again. Put the quill on her desk. Talk to Ollie and exhaust all topics. Go to the right of the bakery and free the bird with the pinchers. Make sure you use it on the cage, not on the bird. Go to the stables and look at the pegs. Go back into town and talk to the bird, which is next to Ollie. Ask the bird for a favor and it'll take down the awning in the stables for you.
Go to the castle place and watch the cutscene. Go back to town and keep exiting and entering untill you see the highway women arguing with the soldier. Take the quill from her desk. Find navy joe and talk to him. Play his game.
Remember that the first pocket he points to is the clue. Add 2 to the pocket number. If it is 8, the bear is in 1. If it is 9, the bear is in 2, etc.
Also ask him about the rum. He will give you a postcard to sign. Go to the stables and give it to the big centaurs to sign. Go back into town and give it to Navy Joe. Talk to the highwaywomen and ask her about the soldier that was arguing with her. She will tell you about Foolkiller. Enter the tent and talk to Foolkiller. Mention the highwaywomen and tell him that shes not fine (or something like that).Ã, Exit the tent and reenter it. Take the uniform.
Enter the castle thingy and double left click on the uniform in your inventory.Ã, Take a tshirt from the box and free the man in the stocks with the pinchers. You will be taken into town and the man will give you charcoal. Take the lanturn on the road and use the coal on the lantern. (Thats actually for the golem puzzle, but whatever.)
Go to town and give Ollie the shirt. Enter and get a lemon from a bush. Have a long conversation with the guy. Exhaust all topics. Use the tin cup on the fishbowl and use the lemon you acquired onto the mollassass seawater. Use navy joe's rum onto the seawater. YOu should have grog now. Go to the docks and give it to William. Take the potion. Go to the tower and talk to Master about the curse thingy. He should mention a cursebook. Go back to the docks and ask William about it.
Exit his place and use the butter onto the lever. Also use the gear, extra uniform part onto the diving rig. The thing should be fixed now and listen as the girl says something about a test dive. Talk to her and volunteer for it. Watch the cutscene with the dragon. When you wake up, ask the girl about the dragon. Use the potion now and you should wake up in a weird place. Talk to the things and find yourself in the well. Talk to the dragon andÃ, use the bookcase. Use the vent and eventually you'll get it. Take the curse book and go to the tower.
Enter and take the blue cup picture. Open the nightstand and take the coppers. Go to the track. Yay, the rain stopped! Enter the stable and give Seacookie the picture. Go back outside and give the guy the coppers. Sea cookie wins! Yay. Go back to the tower and give Master the mountain of silvers.
Golem puzzle

See above hint for how to get to the dragon's lair (the well). To get the clay, go to town and get the clay under the bird's cage. Get the lantern laying on the road. Rescue the pencil man (again see above) and use the coal he gave you onto the lantern. Enter the well and use the quill on the book wyrm. When he breaths fire, use the lantern onto the fire. You also need to get the bellow thingy, but I forgot where that is, sorry.
Go to your tower and use the clay into the cauldron. After that, use the lantern on it. Watch the small animation and add the water. Use the bellow thingy on the cauldron and use the golem scroll on the cauldron.
Hope you found this "walkthrough" helpful.
??? ??? I'm trying to get the feather pen from the highwaywoman, I have the postcard and the recruiter is there and they are arguing. But I click "take" on the desk, the woman, the petition and it's surroundings and I can't get the pen, I also tried "use" on everything in the woman's area. Is there a mistake with the game or am I doing something wrong. Please help :'( ???

Right I've got the book but it never seems to stop raining at the track!! after getting the book I made the golem but the rain still won't stop. trying entering / exiting etc to no avail.. any help?

I don't seem to have the curse book, even though it said I did. I went back to an earlier save to check - did the whole dragon thing again - there was nothing to pick up, and when I tried to do the valve again it just said "you already have the book". If so - where is it?
I have done the rats and golem, I have been up and down the tower and back and forth to the race track several times, but it is still raining, and no one will speak to me.
Also, all my earlier saves have disappeared. I can only load save12, my most recent save.

The book's on the pedestal next to the dragon...
You can get the book back from the dragon, by trying to open the valve behind the bookcase. Move bookcase. He will get worried that the water will come in and ruin the books.
Go to the web and search Apprentice2 or Apprentice 1 (I forget which one this is) search for cheat sheets or hints on this . There you will find a walkthrough.

Trying to use the coppers on the guy with the sword at the gate causes the game to crash.Ã, It's happened twice now (checking to see if it was a one time deal). I remember reading that there is only one point in the game that you can do this, and if you dont then youre stuck in a dead end.
Ive played the game but cant remember when it is you have to get the pen.....if not that may be why you're having trouble.

As I recall, when you enter the town, sometimes...there is that guard who is arguing with the highway woman. I think, you have to sign the petition, then....put the pen on the table instead of giving it back to her. Leave the town and come back when they are arguing. She doesn't notice when you snatch the pen. Or thats how I remember doing it anyway. You should be able to do it at any point durring the game as long as you havn't gotten the Foolkiller to "take care of buisness".

You need to keep messing with the stove (opening and closing them) so that the rats run out of the building and you've solved the rat problem.
To get the pencil/pen you have to ask the highwoman to sign in. then you put it on the desk. You leave and wait untill sge discusses with the driver. When that happens, you take the pencil/pen and she will not notice it

It's not a walking dead, since attempting to open the valve will intiate a conversation with the wyrm, one you couldn't have by simply talking to him. It's through this conversation that you can convince him to give you the books back.
I knew it was no dead end, as you wrote it in your own forum. that's why it drove me mad, because i knew there had to be a way.
when i finally found out, i could have eaten my table, bite myself into the ass, as we would say in german.... ;) and i can't even blame the foreign language for my own stupidity :P
by the way, how about a translation, like you did on the first part?

A German translation is a great idea. Unfortunately, Apprentice 2 has much more dialogue than the first one, and I'd feel pretty bad if someone had to translate it for free.
