Title: Apprentice?
Post by: karelimur on Sun 13/07/2003 00:37:03
 ???
Hey there!
Just started this game today, and yes, I'm stuck...
I have the sandwich book, blanket, cheese recipe, coffee grinder, milk pail, plant book, and have set up the stool.
I've talked to everyone about everything.
Been to the barn, house, cliff.
I know where the oregano is.  I think I know where the cucumbers are.
I can't seem to do anything else?
I'm sorry if there are any spoilers here. I'm not quite sure how to hide my text!

Hiya.  Your first priority is to get into the supply closet that's being held shut by that string thing.

Knock on your Master's door, then before he comes out hide in the far left part of the screen.  Then go upstairs and enter the laundry chute.  :-)

Please, help! I have oregano powder and cucumber, but what do I do with the milk pail?

Do you have the cheese recipe? (found upstairs in Pib's bedroom) If so, read it. We tried to give sufficient hints in the dialogue throughout the game...

"Heat, motion and a stomach enzyme..."
I am definitelly stuck at that!
Spoiler
I thought the sogged bread slices might contain stomach enzyme - though it would be saliva enzyme - but that did not help me. I couldn't give the milk neither heat, nor motion... Help and advice! I haven't slept at all this night. And, Geoffkhan, now I have both oregano powder AND oregano leaves. And although the cloth is ON the horse, there is another one under the old tree. But I can't have the second picnic cloth. Maybe I have to get some sleep. Maybe all this isn't happening at all... Most probably I'm dreaming that I'm posting for help.

Yes, I am aware of the picnic blanket that reappears under the tree.

As for the oregano, how did you get both the powder and the leaves at the same time? This is probably a bug that needs to be fixed.

Thanks for the input, guys. We are planning on putting together an update with bug fixes sometime soon.

After obtaining the oregano powder I wandered around for some time. Then I tried "to use" the oregano, and now I have one more bunch of leaves.

P.S. I think I should let you know - I just obtained a second copy of the sandwich book from the cupboard.

Okay, you definitely ran into the bulk of the bugs.

We're currently working on an update, so all those bugs will get fixed. Thanks for the input!

I'm stuck with a few little things lol, I want to do as much as the game on my own as possible. Subtle hints are preferable.

Spoiler
I try to use the saddle on the horse but I can't, Pib says it'll chafe the horse (I'm not quite sure what that means actually).
How do I get the sheep away? Does it have anything to do with the highwaywoman wanting to count them?

edit: Ok, I figured the sheep out lol, and I really do hope he'll forgive me lol.

edit2: Ok, I figured out the horse too, so really no question left, except maybe how to get the sandwich from the highwaywoman, but I'm sure I'll figure it out soon.
:)
edit3: Got it. I now have all three ingredients. This game is awesome!

Thanks in advance and thanks for the great game!

edit: Ok then, I though I had to use spoiler tags to hide text, but I guess not. Never mind, I fixed it now.

Saanb:

Spoiler
The spell ingredients you need are cucumber slices (from the sandwich), oregano powder, and cheese. If you read the scroll (found in Pib's bedroom), it tells you that in order to make cheese, you need motion, heat, and a stomach enzyme called 'rennin'.

In answer to your question, after you get the horse ready for the master's trip, you can get the motion from the movement of the galloping horse, the heat from the desert sun, and the stomach enzyme from the saddlebags. (BTW, rennin is a stomach enzyme found in horses)

Also you can't just put the saddle straight on the horse's back -- you need something to put on the horse first, so the saddle won't chafe the horse's back.

Hope this helps you, and feel free to post for more hints & tips if you need them.

As for getting the oregano powder:

Spoiler
ask the master about it if you haven't, he says it grows nearby. Have you seen any plants?
Lloyd will help too, though not directly ;).

Enjoy the game! I reccomend trying to beat the game yourself, it's not that hard, if I did it, and I almost always need hints (or am I just getting better? :o). Anyway it's short so make the most of it. Plus there are tons of in-game hints, pay attention to dialogs and descriptions of things..

Spoiler
i have almost all ingredients except for the cheese. I know how to get it, and i used the milk pail on the saddlebag before. But I started all over again and now i cant find the saddlebags. When want to use the milk pail with the saddlebags when its on the horse. The only thing i can use it with is the saddle and the horse. The saddlebags are gone. Does it has something to do in wich order  you do the puzzles. Because this time i did the oregano and cumcumbers first. Maybe it is a bug, or the hotspot can be too small. I really cant find it. And the first time that it did work it was super easy to find.

Please help, now i have solved the puzzles this happens !!!:D

well, the sadlle is normally in the barn, however I didn't quite understand what the problem was. If the saddle is on the horse already just use the milk pail on it. Sometimes the hotspot can be too small.

I'm gonna replay this game in 320X200 res just to compare, cause it was set to 640X400 the first time for some reason.

Yeas but thats the problem, i dunno if it is a bug or something. But the first time i used the milk pail on the saddlebag it worked really easy. But now i played it all over again, i can't seem to find it. you have to use the milk pail with the saddleBAG and not with the saddle. Maybe i just didnt search good but i really tried it 10 minutes or so and within that time i should have found the hotspot. I am going to try it again. Thans for the help en by the way great game! I am hoping to see more of those fascinating games
Title: Re:Apprentice?
Post by: on Thu 17/07/2003 14:40:28
Spoiler
I tried it again and there is definetly NO saddlebag. It was there before, but when I play it now, there just isn't. I guess it is a bug or something. I have scanned every pixel at and even a little bit around the horse. But I can't seem to find the saddle bag hotspot. I tried to look at it, because i thought that maybe I had to look at the saddle first, but it just doesn't work. I also tried to use the milk pail on the saddle (I was desperate, and wanted to check if it didn't work in that way) but it just didn't seem to work. So please help if there is a bug :D i want to know how this story ends

And sorry i didn't use the spoiler tags in my last post, maybe if an editor can edit it cause i am not a member.

Hmm, odd. I guess it's a bug then. It worked fo me the first time, and I used it on the saddle, not the saddlebag. it could be that I just luckily hit the spot for the saddlebag but hmm.

edit:
Spoiler
I tried to replay it aswell and got the same problem.. I got allt the other ingredients first and left this for last.
edit: Aha! I figured out the problem, since you were replaying and already knew the recipe, it's logical that even if you picked the scroll up, you didn't actually look at it and read it. Once you do you can use the milk on the saddle. Obviously Pib wouldn't want to pour milk into the saddlebag just for no reason.. lol..

Actully, there is no saddlebag hotspot. All you have to do is use the milk with the saddle. Oh, and you have to read the recipe first.

If the saddle hotspot is not there after you put it on the horse, please notify me so I can look into the matter.

Dear Schipper,

Hmmm... Sounds sort of like a bug.

By saying "why isn't the master coming back", do you mean that you are still waiting for the master to return from his journey even after obtaining those two ingredients?

Which order did you get the ingredients before doing the cheese puzzle? I tried looking for the bug, but I didn't find any. We need to know so that we can fix it for the update.
Title: Re:Apprentice?

I think i got the oregano first, then the sandwich, but i know i did take twice the oregano, and after i took the cucumber, once, but then it feeezes.
Title: Re:Apprentice?
Post by: Gregjazz on Sat 26/07/2003 21:39:51
Yeah, in the update I fixed that bug -- the one where you can take the oregano twice. That's probably why the Master wouldn't return.

You can't get the sandwich unless you distract the highwaywoman. In your conversation with her, she will mention that she wishes she could count sheep, but the sheep in the field are too far away. You need to herd them (with the broom from the closet) closer to the fence.
