No, that won't help since this is the walkthrough for the original bj2, not the deluxe version, the puzzles are different here...

Well, I don’t seem to be the only one having problems with the last point, so I guess it must be something hidden.

IIRC it is not hidden but just one of thocse non-essential actions tjhat give you an extra point.

But if the scoring for ther deLuxe is really different from the original game - that won't help.

OK, I'm stuck right at the beginning!

I've spoken to everyone in the supermarket and the pub. I've talked to the shaman guy. I have all the objects from the shaman shop and the supermarket. I've got rid of the guy waiting in the coffee shop but not the woman. I've also gone to the creepy house and read the book on the shelf. I've gone up to the cave exterior but can't do anything there. Can't do anything anywhere now, in fact. I'm a bit lost...

There are a few things...

To get into the creepy house you need something to open the door:
The medicine man gives you the key.

Use the book in your inventory to get the laminated bookmark.

Once inside, you'll find another obstacle:

Therefore you need help from the medicine man again.

I came back with the silver bowl intact but the prospector asks for his keys back! There must be another way to get Aqua lad out of the tub other than handing over the keys

Maybe try that walkthru - or did they completly alter the game in the deLuxe version.
