Thank you, Mr. Mozzarella, for your reply.  I was able to get past this point yesterday by examining my inventory and doing the right thing, for a change!  I then went on and finished the game.  Wow!  What an adventure!  Kudos to Alkis for creating such a lavish adventure . . . quite an accomplishment!
